Many people only think of the song, White Christmas, or the comic films with Bob Hope, when they hear the name Bing Crosby. What they forget, or perhaps do not realise, is that he was also a fine serious actor.
What a wonderful movie. This is what cinema should be about, bringing out the humanity in humans. I just pray I never come across the two people who disliked this movie, I shudder at the thought of what they must be like.
I am afraid that it is three that does not like this. The only reason that I can come up with is that they are some of the odd balls that likes the weird and unreal and ridiculous movies that comes out now days. They have no idea what a realistic and good movie is now days. That is sad. Only people like me and you and everyone else knows what a very good, touching, moving, realistic and classic movie really is. Of the 18,000+ people that has seen this movie, I would not worry about the puny three. ==== Wayne
I saw this film when I was maybe 10 and made me cry, rewatching it at 58 it still made me cry. Bing Crosby was unusually gifted actor in addition to being one of the most influential singers of the 20th century. Judy Garland the only other performer I could think of who had this kind of range.
A wonderful movie ❤ Thanks for sharing. It’s important to do what we can for the children of the world. 🌎 I enjoyed watching Bing Crosby again. It’s the first time I’ve seen it but I’d watch it again ❤
+Gregory McGuire When he was filming this movie Crosby's first wife was diagnosed with cancer. He took a break from filming to be with her. She did not live long and he returned to finish the movie right after she died, still mourning. So I would surmise a lot of the emotion we see in him here is real.
Began watching black and White movies at the age of 7 yrs old when my Aunt sat me down to watch WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE… that was many years ago now but it remains one of my favs and I never looked back on the amazing acting, decors, fashions, musical scores and how time is captured from a bygone eras, old films have it all for me. 🎬 🍿 🎥 Thank you Auntie O for introducing me to world other people don't appreciate 😍
I saw this movie over 40 years ago, and I remembered that last scene with Binky so vividly. It’s funny how some movies have moments that stay with you, no matter how long ago you’ve seen them. This was one of those scenes that always stayed with me.
I adore this film. I found the book in a display at JCPenney’s years ago and asked if I could possibly buy it. Instead, the manager gave me the book. I treasure both the book and the film. Never forgot Binky!
the same here, I forgot everything except Binky. I'm in my 60s and saw this as a young girl. One of the best movies I've seen in quite some time, so glad I found it again
I haven't seen this film in 30 years, but I remember as if it was yesterday. My wife and I just finished viewing, and I'm weeping like a little girl. Thank you, Wayne, for posting this gem. Binky. Merry Christmas.
Been looking for this film ever since I saw it at school as a six-year-old 1957. I only remembered a man looking for his long lost son in orphanages with French nuns. And when he found him the lad was singing '...with my banjo on my knee'. I didn't think Bing Crosby was the father and the final scene left no impression on me at all. Only by downloading an email app did these scraps of memory lead me to it here, at last.
This movie is based on the 1949 book Little Boy Lost by Marghanita Laski. I read the book first and loved it. I then discovered the movie starring Bing Crosby and loved it as well. The ending followed that in the book, so I was really happy about that. Terrific book and wonderful movie.
I really loved this movie and first saw it with my mother in the movies and have watched it on tv, on amazon prime and now on you tube and just like others i hope one day it will be released on dvd.....
Like several others here, I remembered this film from many, many years ago on television, and have been looking for it ever since. A small film, but a fine performance by Bing. Memorable.
After watching this dozens of times, I have never gotten tired of watching this movie. I cry every time, especially at the end. This is one of THE best post WW2 movie made and is Bing Crosby's best performance. This tear jerkier has a wonderful ending and is a must see!
BigBingFan Before putting this on here, I tried for 3-4 years on finding this on 3-4 web sights. This movie is still not on DVD....not even on video! As you can see, I recorded this on AMC. This was THE ONLY TIME that this movie was shown. I figured that I wasn't the only person that loved this movie. That is why I put this movie on here. I am glad that so many has has watched it and enjoyed it as much as I have.
+Wayne Ward Thank you so much for posing this! I saw it years ago; but had never been able to find it. A bittersweet story-- haunting in some ways. That little boy was especially wonderful, There is another post WW!! film with the similar theme of searching, actually called "THE SEARCH" that is equally affecting. An early Montgomery Clift film with another remarkable child actor..recommend it.
+Wayne Ward I love this movie too and was hoping there was some way we could get as many people as possible to request that it be released on DVD. Where to go to do that, I don't know. Maybe TCM or the studio the originally released it? If you could tell me how to do so and then the others that come see this movie and like it can do so as well.
+MarthaEllen Dudrow Yes, I also have that on video. And once again, I also haven't found that on video or DVD. Between the two, I still think that this is the best movie.
i saw this film so long ago it stays with you so glad that you had it its a great movie and its one of the few serious roles that bing crosby ever did thank you so much
wow, what a movie. for decades I have been a fan. this is one of the best!!! what those dear children went through. thanks so much for sharing this jewel.
A treasured film that I've watched thru the years at each RARE opportunity. I'd love to own it on DVD, perhaps HD but, YIPES, never colorized (shudder at the thought). ...Merci, Der Bingle au paradis!
isn't that lovely movie.i think any human being is precious and above all children whether ours or not in fact i think of them all as ours because they all make us happy looking at them holding them or laughing at or with them .they really make us live for something that is great which is life itself they make sense for living.thank u for such delightful movie
Marghanita Laski, who wrote the original novel, sold the rights intending that John Mills play the hero. She was appalled to find that they had been traded to Perlberg-Seaton as a vehicle for Bing Crosby, with the character altered to an American. But when she saw the result, she was satisfied. This was one of the three late entries in Bing's filmography that established his credentials as a dramatic actor; the others were 'The Country Girl' (also Perlberg-Seaton) and 'Man on Fire'. What an all-round talent the guy was.
Thanks for posting this video. My grandfather & his brother played 2 of the orphanage boys singing. He & I just watched this together & it will be nice to share with the family.
This is a must see. Although it is not about Christmas, this is a wonderful movie to see during the holiday season. This wonderful movie is about the lost and found and believing that the man is our father, by faith. Just like the child in the movie, we think that God has forgotten about us and that we are a mistake and unwanted. But in the end, we realize that we have been and always will be welcomed in his opened arms, sheltered and protected with his love. God never forgets about us which he has brought into this world. God loves and cares about me and you.
This was when AMC actually played classic movies. I love Bing Crosby in Bells of St. Mary's, and Going My Way. Thank you for posting this movie, as I am getting ready to watch it now. God Bless and God Speed.
I saw this wonderful film years ago on TV and have wanted to see it again, but Netflix didn't have it nor could I find it on DVD through Amazon or TCM's shop. I'd just about given up hope of ever getting to see it again, when I thought maybe just maybe I'd try youtube. So delighted to have finally gotten to see this little gem once again. I would love to own it on DVD, I hope someday soon that it would be available.
It is all about money. Everyone connected with the money has to agree on money. That is what keeps so many gems like this from being released. The movie companies also may think that no one would buy. That is not the case with this movie. It took decades before White Christmas was finally put on video, because of money. When it finally was, the stores could not keep enough. I think that would happen if this movie finally came out on DVD, as well as many others, which I have on video as well.
"you might grow up to be a pig"....rubber tree plant...best song by crosby.....the movietone at the start is great....like being at the theatre as a kid.
Wayne Ward, I have been waiting for this to come out on DVD for years. From what I have seen, so have many others. What is the hold up? What do we have to do to get this issued on DVD? Thank you.

I love this movie. Not only does it capture what wartime was like, it is deeply moving. Great movie best Bing Crosby ever.

Beautiful picture. Superb performance by Mr Crosby.
This is such a beautiful movie. Without a doubt this is one of Bing Crosby's best performance's and also one of his best movies.

She did not live long and he returned to finish the movie right after she died, still mourning. So I would surmise a lot of the emotion we see in him here is real.
He displayed more sorrow on his face than I have seen before

I went on a serious search to find this movie - watched it with Mama decades ago. I too remember the Binky scene; it stayed with me all those years.

This is my favorite Bing Crosby movie. Thank you for sharing!
This is an amazing film- so powerful. I read this years ago. This is an excellent interpretation. Bravo.
Wonderful movie. Thank you so much.
Thanks for this. What a deeply moving movie. 👏

Very nice Wayne. Thanks for the clear presentation!
Imagine all the young parents with a baby or on the way during these times? What a terrible time for them!
Its crazy the gems you can still find on RUclips if anyone knows and other Crosby classics on RUclips please let me know I'm trying to watch all 94
beautiful cinematography and acting. Classic.
Really unexpected. Excellent.
Great! A tough DVD to find. More or less homemade ones traded among Bing fans. It deserves a Criterion release.

I absolutely loved that movie..still cry every time I watch it. I wish I could find
f a picture of "Binky"..
My mom and I loved it so much that we would call our little Chihuahua Binky, even though is name was Tiny!
That ending always makes me cry. I’m not fond of Bing Crosby, but he’s great in this film and The Country Girl. Just beautiful. Thanks
I cried at the ending too!

Russ Se-Watched "Bells" last night. Have seen "GMY" as well. Both Gems. God bless. John 14:6
Thank you for taking the time to upload this film for all of us :))
great! can't wait... ;)
I've been on a hunt for pennies from heaven with Bing♡
The chemistry with the boy is amazing!
Wow...great film!

@@5vickie That makes the two of us.
It's wonderful!!!!
I downloaded this gem Too bad they don't make movies like this anymore....sign of a decaying American culture I must assume .... sad
downloaded here, or from amazon?
Thanks for the info Hilary. I can see how this impacted his performance and made it more heartfelt (in my opinion).
Love this movie! The little boy is a wonderful actor! Steals the movie!
😭😭😭😭😭. Highly recommended.
Heartbreaking story... 😢
I read the original book. I know the author was not enamored with the movie...but I think the movie was WAY better than the book!!!
beautiful story
yes of course.
OMG I'm crying !!
Thank you
"you might grow up to be a pig"....rubber tree plant...best song by crosby.....the movietone at the start is great....like being at the theatre as a kid.
Very edifying movie.
Nicole Maurey (Lisa Garret) would co-star once again with Bing Crosby (as Prof. Helene Gauthier) in the 1960 entertaining film High Time.
This movie also shows how out of touch Americans really were with what happened in Europe during WW2
Nice movie, but the book is so much more beautiful. You have to read the book !!!

Hey Wayne, how about Pennies from Heaven with Bing Crosby? I still haven't seen it :/
Trying to find the lyrics/translation for the nonsense song (woof, woof) in the movie. Help?
❤️
My new favorite movie. Also I'm a little bit confused. Was Jean actually Bill(Bing)'s son?
yes!!!!!!!! He remembered the name "Binky" which he had not been told!
cool
Nice little Film. Nicole Maurey was a pretty lady. Peace
Oh it is excellent, but I'm thinking his role in 'The Country Girl' had to be more taxing for him.
Take care
I guess Bing Crosby 's behavior in the book made more sense since he was British & couldn't remain in France - but the film version - Crosby is a US citizen so he could've remained in France after the Germans invaded since the USA was neutral until Pearl Harbor
It also seems odd/selfish that Crosby 's movie wife didn't make an attempt to send her son to safety out of the country especially since she was working for the underground & knew she was putting his life in danger
😊
Wonderful movie, what year was this movie made?
Sandra Fraser 1953
any more Crosby or Sinatra movies?
Yes, I do. I just wanted to make sure that this would last and not be deleted before I tried putting on some others.
Hey Wayne; thanks for uploading this classic Bing! So, when are you going to upload some more good ones? ;)
So let me get this straight…. The boy unwraps the gift & sees a stuffed animal that he once had named Binky. This was proof the boy is his child. Is that what happened?
In italiano?
It’s a shame that his wife was dying from cancer while he was filming this, in France enough said
Should not Mr. Wainwright have known his own son's birthday?
He DID...October13th
strange that Crosby's character learns that he should care for the child regardless of its' parentage, yet, at the end of the film he discovers the child is his anyway, so the lesson instilled in Crosby appears irrelevant.
No not irrelevant, I feel the discovery is the icing in the cake or his reward.
Disagree, he came back for the boy instead of getting on the train!
