Hope you guys like this one, this was the video I've been hoping to make. Would have helped if I mentioned that it was an Amtrak Dash 8 lol but oh well it was a long day. Enjoy !
I was at my local festival flea market and one vendor had 'tons' of train and collectable toys. I overheard him telling another customer that he recently purchased an entire storage unit full of stuff. So I can see why he was letting even HO scale train items go dirt cheap. Repacking all of that stuff must be hellish, plus his wife and kid were there, so, he probably just wanted to almost give the stuff away. 😂 I was new to train shows back in the nineties and everything was an incredible site, people are always looking at what I was looking at, and anything I wanted I felt pressured by my own emotions to hurry the purchase. I'm glad you see the engine as something awesome, and not worried about the road name, etc!
Personally, I feel you should email the man back and ask if he wants the engine back. Talk about him doing the right thing, now it’s time for you to step up and at least reach out to him to see if he would like it back. Just my opinion.
Glad you have a satisfactory resolution. Most people are good and decent and have a sincere desire to show and share those feelings. In a world filled with mistrust, this is something to shore up the goodness that exists.
I'm so glad your bad experience was resolved! We all mess up sometimes but what really matters is how we handle it. The seller did the right thing in making a true effort to make things right. I've done that a few times as a seller and it really goes far and makes you feel good at the end of the day. Great video! New subscriber here!
So glad to hear it’s resolved , and so glad to hear it didn’t dishearten you from going to these shows and doing this RUclips thing . And good on you for not giving out his name , I’ve done my fair share of making up for mistakes others have made especially in this hobby who were close with me . If this were a situation I woulda had to deal with it would’ve been handled right after the show when I saw the video . But good on both parties for keeping it fair and clean and respectful
Great news Ray! This made my day. Glad to see a happy ending to a bad experience. You're right to not name his name. He was a stand-up guy. Mistakes happen. Another reason to love this wonderful hobby.
First time visit to your channel. Great story! Great ending! So happy for you and your wife. You did everything right. Lesson learned. Thanks for sharing this with everyone.
I watched your first video and forgot about till I cam across your 2nd video. What a lovely end to the story so glad for you it all worked, honesty does prevail in the end. Good Luck for the future.
I have bought stuff at train shows where I didn't know or quickly forgot who sold me something and since I generally pay cash there is no way the seller knew who I was. All that is to say even if mistakes are made, they can be almost impossible to detect or correct. You probably got resolution being a RUclipsr, but that is probably how he put two and two together and realized he had a problem. It is pretty obvious he wasn't trying to pull a fast one on anyone and I am glad everyone was happy at the end of the day. We are a pretty good bunch of guys (if somewhat eccentric) and this is a fine hobby.
I am glad everything worked out for you ray ,like you said the guy made it right for you, but best of all you kept your cool and it paid off for everyone involved
Congrats. Glad it worked out in the end. Here's a little tidbit regarding smoke units. Sometimes they get an air bubble and won't smoke. Just give a quick blow of air down into your smoke unit. Could either use your mouth or an eyedropper to free it up.
It sounds like someone who doesn't have bad intentions, he's just not very organized. Good on you for letting him make it right, and keeping names out of it.
I'm pleased that the situation was resolved and you received an alternative locomotive! I hope that the engineer at your local train store is able to replace the missing parts from the original loco' and you can get it going as well.😊
I like your attitude about this. The guy for whatever reason gave you a bad product, realized the mistake, and made it right. This kind of stuff can easily happen and be a scam but can also be an innocent series of errors. Dwelling on the reasons is counterproductive and ultimately not healthy. Move on and make an interesting video bring the Lionel back to life. Thanks for sharing.
I had a similar experience at a train show. I had no information on my guy either. This was from the first day at the train show. I wasn’t planning on going the second day. I had other plans. But I had a $300 dead horse on the tracks. So I went to the show the second day. Paid for parking. Paid for my ticket inside. Found the guy. His employee took it home. Sent it back to me. It moves on the track now. Yes I learned like you. It’s hard sometimes because you’re not supposed to handle merchandise at a train show. But l learned now. Unless it’s a postwar where the fix is almost always just a few bucks if need be. Always get a card or some information. I talked to my hobby shop about this. He also said. If they don’t stand behind there word. You can always report them to the event organizers. This gives you leverage . Because if they flat out scam you they could be banned from the next show. Great story I am going subscribe to your channel. Please check out mine. Ken
I'm glad everything worked out well for you and I think not say his name was the right choice. I have a question: Did you ask him if he wanted the original engine back? Imo, if not , it's the right thing to do. If he doesn't want it back, you have a clear conscience for keeping it.
Congrats on the new engine and resolution Also I am very impressed with how many views that other video got! I look forward to seeing this Atlas engine running with the remote. I don't own any Atlas stuff..... yet.
I am glad that this was resolved to your satisfaction AND commend your compassionate, non-hateful response. The world can use less drama! With that said, please do not give this guy too much credit. Once he saw your video, he may have been very concerned that you would run into him at some future show and expose him on your channel! Likewise, you might have seen him on someone else's train show video or there might even have been a 3rd party who witnessed what happened and realized it was your transaction. He is likely VERY happy that he could make this up to you. In any case, all's well that ends well. BTW- Your wife sounds like a great person too😀
Excellent. You handled this quite appropriately. Well done Ray. I too, like most, have had positive experiences buying trains. TCA events are about as bullet proof as can be wrt purchases.
Cool locomotive and neat sounds on it! I've got a locomotive that looks like that in N scale (but no sound module in mine). I'm hoping to make a late 1980s era San Diegan train with it to run on the NTrak layouts we take to shows. Glad to see that things were made right for you in this adventure. A healthy dose of skepticism is certainly good to keep around. Train shows can be pretty hectic times for vendors as they work on getting all of their inventory sorted and priced and then transporting it to the show and put on display, and then managing the sales at the show before it is all packed up to return to their location or to go to the next show with only a couple days to rest between shows. The majority of train show vendors that I've met are those that will work to make things right like this guy did. They also generally network among themselves and the staff at many of the train shows so if you really need to get in touch with one of them, it's often not quite as difficult as you might think. As for anonymized addresses, a PO Box at the post office is pretty inexpensive, but they historically did not accept UPS and FedEx packages. That might have changed since USPS is doing last-mile deliveries for both now....
I'm glad it worked out for you also I agree whole heartily on how you handled the situation on keeping names out the main thing is he made it Wright to your satisfaction happy railroading Ray
This is one hazard of train show purchasing. I have also purchased and not tested at the show. I've been lucky not to have any issues. That's why I prefer TCA shows. You get the seller's TCA number and its a means of identification. I always ask before I exchange cash for item if the engine/car works properly. Most shows have test tracks also if your still in doubt. Especially for some of these engines that cost many hundreds of dollars. In your situation being a youtuber saved the day and I agree with how you handled it. Good luck in the future.
I bought an engine from a dealer at the Oaks Train Show in Philadelphia. It was a 2 day show and I bought on the first day which was a Saturday. I live about 70 miles from the show. When I got home I unboxed the Locomotive and tender. I put it on the track and nothing worked. I drove back down to the Train show and the woman at the door let me and my wife back into the show after explaining what had happened. When the dealer saw me coming he immediately took the money from his box and said I'm sorry it didn't work. I got a refund and walked away. My wife came down the isle and the dealer said, Hey if your husband wants this locomotive I will sell it to you for 100.00 less so he can replace the mother board in it. So, he knew he sold me a unit with a bad board in it. My advice for anyone buying a bigger purchase is to use a credit card. Some people do not care who they take advantage of.
Reach back out to the guy and ask him if he wants to join you in a video. His choice, and a chance for his side of the story. After these two videos it would be really interesting, and should get you a lot of additional views. As a business owner I have learned that fixing a mistake gets you more credibility than doing it right to begin with. If everything goes fine, well it was supposed to go fine. If something doesn’t go fine, most people have low expectations and immediately think they were screwed with no recourse. But apologize, admit the mistake, then fix the mistake, and the customer/client will be shocked. Everybody makes mistakes, and people accept that having made plenty of their own mistakes. Show them you stand behind your product/service and they will be back as a repeat customer/client.
That’s great news, the first video was my first on your channel and I subscribed, thanks for the update, but come on they said they just sell stuff without checking it first? Is that normal? Sounds like bad business practice or maybe I didn’t hear right, thanks again!
Scammers like that prey on people who don't know what to expect and accept what they get. For others, there's always an excuse and a way to "make it right"…
I will say in this hobby when you go to the 2 big shows (York/Allentown), no one is there to purposely rip anyone off. Think about it. They would never be able to come back to the show again. These guys buy huge lots from estate sales, auctions, all over. They don't open and test everything. Just a simple mistake. This is one of the best hobbies and great people who do the right thing. This is not like a deal in a back alley lol. You ended up with a fantastic engine and a free one to bring back to life!
Congratulations on your new engine! I’m glad that this got resolved. It definitely could have been an honest mistake. I’m glad you didn’t out the guy. He made it right and that’s what matters. There’s still a lot of good people in the world. This is what makes the hobby good.
Glad it worked out for you, you got a great engine. I have 2 of these in Southern Pacific. This engine should also have cruise control. Mine came with the ERR cruise commander boards so its a 100 step speed control. Awesome slow runner, like a Legacy. P.S. Is it missing the front hand rails? Should have handrails up front.
It’s a great ending. I buy and sell a lot at shows and most things work out all right, as most guys are pretty straight. You can earn a bad reputation really quick if you don’t treat people right. As I’m an HO guy, I pretty much know what will run and not run before testing when I’m buying. When I take locomotives to sell, they’ve been cleaned and test run and I always note any issues like inoperative headlights or minor noise.
Nice that everything worked out! I take it that you don't live too far from Grzboski's? I been meaning to get there. I only live about 40 minutes away. No more hobby shops in my general area. Hamburg Pa show will be coming up in June. You might score some deals there?
I'm sure somebody already mentioned this, but you don't need a TMCC controller for that locomotive. You can operate it with the Legacy controller. Also, it seems kind of rude not to mention the vendor's name. If he made it right, just because it was the right thing to do, you should mention his name and give him the credit he deserves. Let people know he is a stand up dealer who will resolve any issues his customers have.
I think it would be right to name the seller that made this right. This would show all future prospective customers that he was an honest person. Finally, you should ship it back.
So glad to hear that there was a happy ending. Just to play Devils advocate, once you had the guys information and made contact, he would've known that the choice was always yours if you ever wanted to provide a public service announcement and disclose unfair business practices from that vendor and you do have quite the stump to get the word out. Point is, we can never know what result your average Joe Blow may have ended up with under similar circumstances having little threat of recourse. Cheers to you for staying with the high road and giving the benefit of the doubt! That's never easily done. Congratulations!
I'm sure you probably already know this by now but if you don't most train shows have people that would be able to test said item, all you have to do is ask seller before you buy it if you can test it out first to make sure it runs.
Not up on the any of the new Lionel trains back in my childhood days there were none of the sound or smoke fluid or units they made smoke out of smoke stack by dripping 3 in 1 oil on a light bulb in the bottom of the stack and it made never ending white smoke. Times sure have changed.
Just a quick question the man made a mistake and he truly made it right so do you feel that you should do the same and atleast ask him if he wants the original loco back ? It's only right to ask him if he does. One other thing it is great that he came through as you stated he didn't have to do or say anything..... just my thoughts. Great looking locomotive
My personal reason why I don’t like large scale train’s because of the way of the trucks and couplers turn together and I understand because of track radius.
It sounds like it was an honest mistake since he went through all this trouble to contact you since, AFAIK, the original transaction was anonymous, that is no last names or phone numbers or e mails. If he was a real scammer he would've kept quiet. I hope your faith in humanity is restored!😊😅
Kind of weird that he wasn't even at the show and made arrangements with you to meet he probably thought he was going to get his ass kicked.... hey if you're happy I guess that's all that matters👍👍👍
Ray you will learn Atlas Master line is the best.I acquired one last year GP 7 TMCC is great.just less capable than legacy Glad it worked out for you Maybe the guy made an honest mistake Those engines are nicknamed The Pepsi can
Whoever these vendors are, you would’ve seen them at other shows and confront them there. Evidently if they had a big display, they are not one show only.
Oh my, I LOVE stories with happy endings! "Scuse me while I go get a tissue... 😂 OK, that being said you're very wise not to give the man's name out, he made it right and that should be the end of it. And he didn't ask for the bad one back, that says something! Right, there's a lot of cowards out there on the Internet who love to cause harm since they're safely anonymous behind that computer screen. I have no use for punks like that and I'm more than sure you don't either! Now that is one good-lookin' engine! A Dash-8 in the Amtrak "Pepsi Can" scheme! Right, that's what railfans called it when it came out. If I'm right Amtrak still has some Dash-8's on the roster that they use in work train service and VERY occasionally on passenger trains. (I've seen them.) No Amtrak cars? You can put a work train together behind it and still be prototypical. And Atlas is a class act, they make good stuff! Sorry I'm late on this one but things have been going on. Glad it's all worked out!
Glad it worked out for you. But you do have his address if there was tracking number so that is complete B.S. Keeping the old engine without even offering to send it back is just a cheap move. HE came to YOU to MAKE IT RIGHT and he followed through. You ALSO could have MADE IT RIGHT, by offering to send the old one back. That would be the decent thing to do. Yet you never even gave him the chance to decline the offer instead bragging about keeping it here on YT. You made your choice to keep the old one, and it also was a poor choice. In the end let this be learning experience for you.
Hell no. It was never about the guy that’s why I never mentioned him that video is to help newbies going to train shows to make sure you check out what ur buying before you give up the cash it’s a good lesson .
Hope you guys like this one, this was the video I've been hoping to make. Would have helped if I mentioned that it was an Amtrak Dash 8 lol but oh well it was a long day. Enjoy !
Iam really happy for you iam glad u got your model trains back
I was at my local festival flea market and one vendor had 'tons' of train and collectable toys. I overheard him telling another customer that he recently purchased an entire storage unit full of stuff. So I can see why he was letting even HO scale train items go dirt cheap. I think you were very gracious and made the right decision 👍
You’ll probably find now by doing this act things and life will be sweet for you 🙂
Personally, I feel you should email the man back and ask if he wants the engine back. Talk about him doing the right thing, now it’s time for you to step up and at least reach out to him to see if he would like it back. Just my opinion.
I agree. If you have the person's email you should at least try to return it.
Disagree! This guy caused Ray enough grief. They are even!
I'm so happy for you! And major props to Grzyboski's Trains for their help in sorting this out.
I really like Gryzboski's.
Wow I can’t believe I missed this follow up. Glad you got it taken care of and that was an excellent replacement choice!
Thanks Tony
Glad you have a satisfactory resolution. Most people are good and decent and have a sincere desire to show and share those feelings. In a world filled with mistrust, this is something to shore up the goodness that exists.
I'm so glad your bad experience was resolved! We all mess up sometimes but what really matters is how we handle it. The seller did the right thing in making a true effort to make things right. Great news Ray! This made my day. Glad to see a happy ending to a bad experience. You're right to not name his name. He was a stand-up guy. Mistakes happen. Another reason to love this wonderful hobby.
Glad to hear it, Ray! You did the right thing, and I'm grateful things worked out for the best for you. Enjoy your Dash-8 👍
Hey Ray. Good things happen to good people. I'm happy for you!!!
Glad the dude made it right for you. I like that loco much better than the original CSX.
I have bought stuff at train shows where I didn't know or quickly forgot who sold me something and since I generally pay cash there is no way the seller knew who I was. I am glad everything worked out for you ray ,like you said the guy made it right for you, but best of all you kept your cool and it paid off for everyone involved
Agreed Joe,
Congrats. Glad it worked out in the end. Here's a little tidbit regarding smoke units. Sometimes they get an air bubble and won't smoke. Just give a quick blow of air down into your smoke unit. Could either use your mouth or an eyedropper to free it up.
Ahhh thanks for the tip del!
I've had that happen several times.
Very commendable that he made it right. As you said, the bottom line is that the end result was satisfactory to you. Good Luck!

The Amtrak Dash8 looks good. You were very patient and up front and not angry (like me)❤😊
Nice story with a happy ending, and graciously done by not naming names. Way to go!
I am glad that this was resolved to your satisfaction AND commend your compassionate, non-hateful response. The world can use less drama! With that said, please do not give this guy too much credit. Scammers like that prey on people who don't know what to expect and accept what they get. For others, there's always an excuse and a way to "make it right"…
Glad it worked out for you, should there be railings on the front porch of the loco as on the rear? I'm not up on the details of newer diesel models.
Yes good catch Scott I actually found it in the box after the video I need to glue it back on lol
I'm glad you got everything resolved. Great ending😊
I will say in this hobby when you go to the 2 big shows (York/Allentown), no one is there to purposely rip anyone off. Think about it. They would never be able to come back to the show again. Good call on sending that to the train store instead of your house even if it was not anything bad.
Great story. I am glad it ended well. I am always worried as well.

So glad it worked out for you. The train hobby community is a good one.
Thanks Steven completely agree
Hi Steven I totally agree with you 💯.👍
Good people in most cases receive their due. your style exudes what results you receive.. keep us posted!!!
Real honest seller!! I applaud him!!
Glad things worked out
Glad to see a happy ending for your issue. Cheers.
I'm an HO scale guy, but great stuff right there!
Ray might want to get amtrak passenger cars 😊
Already have some Amfleets in my sights 😎
Glad it all worked out. Nice integrity on the sellers part.
Faith restored, that's what it counts. Congrats..!!!!!
I'm glad everything worked out for you! 😊
My personal reason why I don’t like large scale train’s because of the way of the trucks and couplers turn together and I understand because of track radius.
Is the railing missing on the front of the engine? Chain too?
Yes good catch joe I actually found it inside the box I have to glue it back on lol
Excellent result. I'm sure it was an honest mistake by the seller and he was full of guilt.
It’s nice there are still honest people about 😊
#1 I don't see 'huge lots on EBAY". Not sure that's a thing.
Good for you! Glad you had a positive outcome.
Where are the front Raillings?
It sounds like it was an honest mistake since he went through all this trouble to contact you since, AFAIK, the original transaction was anonymous, that is no last names or phone numbers or e mails. If he was a real scammer he would've kept quiet.
I hope your faith in humanity is restored!😊😅
Were the ones who had the display at Allentown at York?
Glad it was sorted.
Good results Ray
I used to go to that show years ago, when I lived in NJ, I got riped off to buy new engines , I don't go to these shows any more
Kind of weird that he wasn't even at the show and made arrangements with you to meet he probably thought he was going to get his ass kicked.... hey if you're happy I guess that's all that matters👍👍👍
Glad it worked out!
He came through on you. I’d at least offer to send it back-on his dime- by simply reusing the same package material
Fantastic Outcome!
You want to sell the gutted shell? It would look great on my desk.
Where is the front hand rails? Did they come with them?
Yeaaa it was in the box I gotta glue them back on 😅
Ray you will learn Atlas Master line is the best.I acquired one last year GP 7
TMCC is great.just less capable than legacy
Glad it worked out for you
Maybe the guy made an honest mistake
Those engines are nicknamed
The Pepsi can
Thanks William
Happy for you!
Nice Ray. Great looking engine.
Thanks Tim
Glad it worked out for you...
Glad he made it right. Nice engine.
I like your style, and your morals.
I am glad u got what u want this is good
Whoever these vendors are, you would’ve seen them at other shows and confront them there. Evidently if they had a big display, they are not one show only.
Oh my, I LOVE stories with happy endings! "Scuse me while I go get a tissue... 😂
OK, that being said you're very wise not to give the man's name out, he made it right and that should be the end of it.
LOL thanks Wayne I was saying to my wife “ Wayne didn’t watch my video yet what is going on !?” I have my eye on some phase 3 amfleets don’t worry 😂
I'm happy it worked out for you, but I'd still never trust that vendor again. Too much "shady" behavior.
What you gonna do with the shell
Glad it worked out for you. But you do have his address if there was tracking number so that is complete B.S. Keeping the old engine without even offering to send it back is just a cheap move. HE came to YOU to MAKE IT RIGHT and he followed through. You ALSO could have MADE IT RIGHT, by offering to send the old one back. That would be the decent thing to do. Yet you never even gave him the chance to decline the offer instead bragging about keeping it here on YT. You made your choice to keep the old one, and it also was a poor choice. In the end let this be learning experience for you.
now that it's resolved, are you taking down the first video?
Hell no. It was never about the guy that’s why I never mentioned him that video is to help newbies going to train shows to make sure you check out what ur buying before you give up the cash it’s a good lesson .
glad to see this worked out for you daddy
20 plus minutes to tell a 5 minute story.
Hold off on the repair of the non Working unit I can see you putting money into it and the seller wanting it back!
Let me know if you want any more TMCC because that’s all I have that I’m selling
What a story!!! 🚂 🚊 🚆
Open the box Ray rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr from Honolulu Hawaii 🤙
💣💥
