Pharmacy TECH here. Bottles will usually advise to not use a medication past one year from the date it was dispensed. That said, for MOST medications, it won't hurt you to use them after that, but the medications may be less effective over time. Personally, I would never put anything in my eyes beyond the expiration date.
Pharmacist (in Texas)! The expiration date on your prescription bottle should be within a year from the date it was filled. If it's less, that means your bottle of meds will likely expire on the date listed. Usually the expiration date on the manufacturer bottle will be longer. And as said by others, you can generally expect potency to be decreased past expiration date. If it's an antibiotic and you didn't finish it (shame on you unless your doctor told you to stop for whatever reason or you found you were allergic) throw it away. DO NOT KEEP ANTIBIOTICS FOR LATER AND GIVE IT TO YOUR MAMA CAUSE SHE HAS A COUGH. 👀👀 Sooo, just get a new RX from your doctor cause you're entering into the realm of self-treatment and there will then be lots of reasons a pharmacist will tell you it's not appropriate lol
Not a pharmacist but a waste & refuse special interest girly...there are drop off centers for prescription meds so they can be more safely disposed of if you choose to do so. Depending on what the Rx is, it shouldn't go in the regular trash. Check with your local waste services 💕
i didn't think it was possible for me to laugh with whats on my mind but of course my internet cousin got me cackling (that allergy ear, throat scratch move hahahaha). Evelyn, I hope you listen to us, you are a LIGHT in this world, thank you for creating, posting, and being on the internet
girl throw them away! Some have expiration dates because the medication degrades with time, therefore it may be less effective or totally ineffective by the time you want to use it. Also, let your doctor decide the dose or med - it's probable he wants something else for you then! Antibiotics are tailored to the infection you have. -sincerely, one of your internet doctor cousins
@@Daniisavibe For opioids, it's less a matter of potency but more a matter of safety. They're highly addictive and have the potential for abuse and overdose in children, elderly or the wrong hands. They could be kept under lock or given back to the pharmacy.
@Daniisavibe I also think that if you have pain that is so severe that is not being relieved with Tylenol or Advil, it must be very severe and require immediate medical attention. The med was prescribed specifically for post-op management, not sure why you may need it in the future for other things without supervision form a doctor. If you have another surgery later, they'll give you another prescription - if they feel you need it, at the right dosage and with the right time frame.
@@johanne7 … you are right. I have zero issues with opioid use (as I’ve had the same 4 pills for a while) but I rollerskate and sometimes take a nasty fall at the park. I’m just afraid I’m gonna need it when I toss it. 😭😭 but I’ll listen to a professional.
@@DaniisavibeI’ve kept every extra opioid ever prescribed me. I keep a couple to travel with along with one Xanax. I’m not out here trying to go to the ER for every ache and pain.
Nurse here, get rid of your old antibiotics. You risk antibiotic resistant bateria developing in your body if you casually take a pill for a couple of days and be done with it. You don't want to be at a point where you need stronger drugs, you'll have more to worry about than a little bubbly gut.
Evelyn, I really wanted to thank you for what you do. I have mental illness and my room was very much an outward reflection of that. After watching your decluttering videos, I was finally able to do a massive clear out of my space. I don't have to die from embarrassment and shame when someone comes into my room. I can see the surface of my desk!!!!
Congratulations, getting out of full-blown home chaos is a huge achievement! In a similar boat and the shame spiral is real! So thank you for your comment, it's great to hear success stories from people whose starting point was perhaps nearer to mine. Hope your newly clear home brings new opportunities and connections ✨️
Alright! It's official! I am motivated to declutter but it's like so overwhelming when I think about it...... It's like "I'm gonna need a bigger garbage bag." One room at a time, one drawer at a time, one closet at a time....... Yes, I can!
As someone who has worked in pharmacy for 7+ years, depending on when the prescriptions were filled, you can ask your pharmacy location (especially CVS) to look up the expiration date from the manufacturer bottle they used to fill your script. So, the expiration date on your prescription label/ vial may differ from the manufactured bottle. CVS has actually updated their system to now reflect the manufacture expiration date on your prescription label. For example, if the bottle they used to fill a script expires 06/24, your label will also say 06/24, rather than a year after the dispensing/written date. If the medications are past the expiration date, the pharmacy should be able to discard them for you. But you can also find medication disposal sites (drug take-back locations) in your city & state. Also, some eye drops will state not to be used after 90 days from opening, including over the counter. I hope this helps!
Not a pharmacist, but as a hoarder of orange bottles. The medication will have less potency after the expiration. So instead of a 1-2 punch, and may just be a 1/2 a punch.
Here’s a tip that helps me with these projects: use a tote bag to put the pile of clutter in. Then, if you feel like not finishing or taking a break, you don’t have to come back to a giant pile, just a bag of things to sort through. Thank you for these videos! 💞
"Sleeping underneath Metamucil..." well, that's one way of staying regular. Ha! But seriously, we recently got our basement flooded, and the incident has made go in full declutter mode because we ended up tossing things we had no use for anymore. Rethinking purpose, reviewing expiry dates, etc... THIS CONTENT FUELS ME!
Friendly neighborhood physician here! 👋🏾 Imma tell you what I do in my house: 1) I'll keep over the counter meds for 6-12m after expiration date. Depending on the meds and type. Get rid of liquids sooner than pills. Topicals stay the longest (ie hydrocortisone cream). I don't hang on to prescriptions. Inhalers get tossed like 4 weeks after they expire. The risk is less about becoming poisonous and more about the med not working. Best to not take that chance with inhalers especially. 2) NEVER keep extra antibiotics for use unless a doctor has specifically told you to. In theory, you shouldn't even have extra if you completed the prescribed course. We're all terrified of increasing antibiotic resistance. 3) There are medication takeback events I strongly recommend. Check with your pharmacy but it helps meds not fall into the wrong hands or contaminate land and water. That being said please don't flush meds. K thanks bye!

Those emesis bags are great to keep in the car in case you have someone get car sick. Also if your prescription medicine is expired it’s best to discard it properly. You can take it to the pharmacy to have them dispose it safely.
I started decluttering and organizing my apartment almost if not a month ago. I did about 70% of the work, knocking out the worst of it really, but I haven't gotten back into it. I bought a ton of clear, stackable storage bins and they're sitting on my carpet stacked 7+ feet tall waiting to be put away, but I have to clear out the rest of my other boxes and mop the floor first. 😫😭 I have, like, two large bins, two medium bins and one shoe box bin dedicated to hair stuff. I didn't realize I had so much. I have a lot of clothes and about 40 pairs of shoes, or just under that. That spending needs to stop. I have so much I've never worn. I also have a decent bit (not a lot, but a normal and healthy amount for someone who is nearly the same size they were in middle and high school) to donate. The good thing about going through your home and clearing out is that you can confront your habits, and the good thing about these storage bins is that, come move-out time, there's little for me to do.
