Hi thank you for the video, I’m making a small sign that’s going to stay outdoors through elements, so is there an actual way to seal vinyl on top of wood? I’m a little confused I’m sorry.
Hi Emily! I'd look into possibly pouring epoxy for really long periods of time. Short periods like a wedding night I think you'd be fine as long as it wasn't left out all night
what about using the gloss finish? pro and cons if any please. also what about polyurethane premium oil based? or is water based what we want for the vinyl? thanks so much. love your projects.
I think the gloss will probably hold up the best, kinda like glossy paint being used in high traffic areas of a house (baseboards, trim, etc.). Just be careful with polyurethane as it can yellow the white lettering!
I'm currently using spray polyurethane and word of caution ⚠️ It lifts the letters quite often! So becareful if you choose this method. It's quite the pain in the rear.
Thank you for DIY video! Can you tell me if you think I can use paint markers on this project if I use your 1.stain, 2.seal with satin polycrylic, 3. then apply perm vinyl method?
@@PeepGamePopoff HTV gets applied with heat. And you can do that after the stain has dried. I usually wait 24 hrs to be safe. Then I’ve applied polyurethane over the whole piece to seal everything. Hope that helps! 🤝
I like using chip brushes for the protective layer since they are cheap and can throw away. It sometimes takes alot of brushstrokes and layers to get the tiny bubbles flat
Hi. Any suggestions for an unfinished cutting board with a custom vinyl design but I want to be able to use the cutting board as well n not lose the design..... help pls
Idk why I don’t get it - can I stain the wood once completely dry I apply polycrilic once that’s 100% dry apply the vinyl on top then apply more polycrilic ?????
I tried permanent vinyl on stained wood and it bubbled and didn't stick as good. Then I tried iron on vinyl same thing. So I might try Infusible ink on my stained wood.
Hii I have a really nice idea to create small 6x6 stands that could fit on your bedside dresser or wherever, with that method of lettering of a meaningful bit of a scripture from the Bible on it. So that people can have God all throughout their house and a daily reminder of his love you know!!! I’d love to get that started do you know the material you used? 🙏🏼 thanks
Thanks for the tutorial, it's really helpfull.
You're welcome!

Same here I’m not sure if this is actually a way to seal vinyl the wood. 😅 if there is an actual way I would love to know
Thanks so much for the info!! Which method do you suggest is best for signs that might be outdoors for long periods of times, such as welcome signs?

Is polycrylic okay to use even for an outdoor sign?
Thanks

So glad you enjoy them!! I think so but would be super nervous to mess up all the previous work with my horrible penmanship 🤪
Do you think using HTV on stained wood would be ok? And putting Polyacrylic over the HTV to seal everything will work? Thanks.
Hi James I havent tried htv on wood yet! Adding it to the list
@@CarlyKeller Got ya. Well I have it a shot and it works really well. 😊
@@jamesbarlowjr.3762 really??? You just pressed it directly on the wood???

What can I do to the wood if I already put the vinyl on it to secure it? I forgot to put the seal first before putting on the vinyl, I'm new to this.
You can still add after, just make sure your stain is very dry so it doesn’t lift and discolor the vinyl
What type of brush are you using? I kept getting air bubbles on my sign. I don’t shake the can and stir slowly to not create air bubbles.

What stain did you use?

Hum maybe you could burn the image into the wood? Not sure the vinyl or even paint/stencil would be food safe!

How long do you wait to apply polyacrylic after staining your wood ?
At least 48 hours but the longer the better. I'm also in CO where it is super dry so if your in a humid area might take longer
Is this oracel 651 or permanent vinyl
It is both! Oracal 651 is permanent
How did you split the round border?
I believe I sliced them from one another!
Does vinyl stick to stained wood?
It does!
