- I thought Lloyd Bridges' Admiral/President Benson in the Hot Shots! films was hilarious when I watched them in the early 90s. Though I still appreciate his performance, watching him as POTUS in 2021 hits a little too close to home.
...And somehow the wacky absurdity of the slapstick genre doesn't seem as outlandish anymore...

Lloyd Bridges was a comedic master. I miss him and his talent.
It was a surprise. Bridges played tough leading man parts all of his life. His comedy in this film was a rare gem.

I watched these movies growing up, and just like Babylon Bee has also proven, satire has become reality such that no-one believes satire anymore - the perpetual comedy writes itself.

I know I’m late but you should’ve included the clip of Benson in the first one talking to Block when he said, “I can’t be in Hawaii, I’m supposed to be in California.” You know since Joe Biden once said,”I love this place. Look, what’s not to like about Vermont in terms of the beauty of it?” even though he was in New Hampshire.

This is funny because these movies were a direct satirical look at the Reagan and Bush administrations of the 1980s and 1990s Both were seen as buffoons who often made verbal and awkward gaffes (like Reagan forgetting things or acting confused, Bush vomiting on Japan's PM, which happened in 1992).
