Hi guys. Watched this clip and thought I’d drop in my thoughts. In general as you said not having a worthwhile warranty plan for your Chinese wheels is a problem for a start. This creates the possibility for some manufacturers to cut a few corners to bring in these products at this crazy price point. That should alone set a few alarms going. Maybe you get lucky as Francis has but I wouldn’t go looking for potholes.. From what I can tell here. The side wall thickness is optimistic at best. The other, and more important issue we have seen for some years is ‘dry carbon’ meaning the prepreg carbon simply does not contain enough ‘glue’ to bind the carbon fibers. They are getting away with it on frames if the paint work is good but it’s new territory for wheel makers looking to skimp on manufacturing costs, why? 2 things spoke tensions exacerbated by impacts/vibration. This wheel has failed on the seamline of the tire wall. Basically the outer side wall delaminates when the bond is poor. It used to be spoke pull-throughs, a problem a few years back as some of your subscribers will attest to. Poor choice of where to put carbon and unreliable supply chains lead to variable quality. Who checks these batches..mm let me think…you do!
I was quite impressed recently when I tried some Aliexpress DT Swiss 52 tooth ratchet knockoffs. For the price compared to the legit product I figured it was worth a try. They worked beautifully, sounded great for... five kilometers. The parts broke on a short, punchy and somewhat aggressive climb. I contacted the seller, they offered to replace the parts. I told them I didn't have confidence in the product and would really prefer a refund so I can buy the genuine product. They said ok, and gave me the refund. I think they are getting better with warranty and customer service but it is still a a case by case thing as there is so many manufacturers/sellers.
I'm currently using a chinese hub using the DT Swiss ratchet standard. The fact that its parts are almost all replaceable if ever they go wrong is amazing. I literally don't have to worry about getting a new one if they fail on me. I'll just have to get a new set of ratchets or bearings and it'll work again, good as new.
@@robertmcfadyen9156 Well even cars from the big well known manufacturers have recalls. Nothing is 100% certain, ask Shimano or rather don't ask Shimano.
Glad Jimmy made the Chinese section clear. I was the UK distributor for a far eastern brand. There is good and bad chinese direct carbon. I did my research as a former sceptical product design engineer. I found there's good and bad Chinese carbon and I totally agree accountability is key. I ensured they met ISO and EN stds. Of the sales we made over two years for wheels and frames I only ever had 1 crash damaged and one warranty issue and in both cases the brand replaced without question. The comprises with china direct is shipping time approx (2-6wks) depending on supplier and stock.
As an "OLD GUY" cyclist / LBS mechanic from the 1990s I love a great frame pump. Anyone rememeber the neon yellow Zefal frame pumps? Who else remembers high pressures to avoid pinch flats, or worse heavy anti puncture solutions like thicker tubes? That being said new tech is the best. Go TUBELESS!!!! I've been tubeless on my MTB since 2001. In 2010 I converted my Mavic Krysruim Aniversiary road wheels to tubeless, with little more than valve stems, Hutchinson Fusion tubeless tires, and tubeless sealant. Since then I've never looked back. In all those years (yes once you reach 50+ you talk in years and decades) I've had so few flats while riding I can count them on 2 hands. I'd say less than 10 flats requiring road / trailside fixes in over 20 years is a solid argument for tubeless. Note I still carry a spare tube, CO2 canisters, and patches on each ride just in case. What to do with a $600 euro floor pump? Same thing you do with a $260 euro Colnago corkscrew. Sip expensive vintage wine while working on your Colnago Master next to your Ferrari GTO or Austin Martin DB5.
Just as a public service announcement, Silca stuff is discounted 30% right now on Amazon. The only problem I have with their lube is that I've now ridden 16,000 km on my KMC chain, waxed with Silca and treated weekly with Super Secret. The damn thing just won't wear out, and I've got a custom celeste colored replacement waiting in the wings to put on my Bianchi. At this point, I may just have to accept that Silca has made my drivetrain immortal.
I know you are joking but it is the only downside I have found to waxing. I've noticed that at a glance all the chainrings on all my bikes look excessively worn, because there is no dirty oil to disguise where the anodizing has gone from the teeth, and because of waxing I'll have those rings for a very long time.
Josh actually saved the Italian Silca brand legendary Pista floor pump. When he traveled to Italy to offer to buy the brand for the Italian owner. The company have already sold their factory and all their equipment. So they had to visit several craftsmen to order each specific part made to build him a Silca floor pump.
Essentially, a new company with new products engineered from scratch bought an old dying brand. The fake-o italiano product names are just posing, they're not even grammatically correct.
@@ltu42 There's an element of truth to that. On the other hand, Silca still supports 25 y.o. pumps from the previous ownership with spare parts, etc. Who else in the industry is doing that?
I loved the Silca frame pumps but decided that a Topeak one at roughly 17% of the price would do me for now. To be fair the plastic Raleigh branded one I have had for the last 30 years has only just gone since I lent it to a mate who bent the shaft by being too enthusiastic with the pumping……
I am thrilled to see your association with Silca, congratulations! I am a huge Silca fan and use many of their products. I have always found that while their prices are generally towards the top of the range for a given product, their quality is typically far beyond any competitors. I have never been disappointed in a Silca purchase or product.
“Towards the top off the range” Bro, they’re selling mini pumps for 80-100 bucks. I love good quality as much as the next guy but that’s just nuts. These aren’t even particularly lightweight or anything.
I am still using a Silca Track pump I bought in the Seventies, still works, pressure gage is still accurate, but the grommet in the connector had to replaced 2 years ago🙄 Even the polythene sleeve it came in still protects it. If you need a word to define quality, “Silca” nails it👏
Yes, I have been waiting on the review for these wheels as well. It is my understanding that Ryet is a subsidiary of Uno, a Taiwanese company, the same company that sponsors a pro bike team. You would think their quality would be better. I puchased a set of Ryet wheels at $390.00 that looks like the ones Frances bought, not like the ones Pierre bought. Look closely, they are different models from the same company. I have ridden over 3000 miles on these wheels since my purchase in February 2023 without problem. The advertisement said the wheels would weigh 1730g, they weighed in at 1750g. Heavy? Okay I guess so but, as advertised. Hunt all season aluminium are about the same weigh, for the sake of the weenies. I'm kinda disappointed that you didn't have your wheels checked by one of your carbon expert "mates" to ensure the soundness of your wheels. I would have been curious to find out since you and I bought the same model of wheel but that is my prejudice. Overall a good piece of journalism even though it wasn't complete. Thanks for the entertainment.😂
Talking about the lack of QC in the cheap products is also a factor of them being cheap. Adding steps in the factory to ensure consistency before shipping. After checking every product, the ones that wouldn’t be to standard get thrown out not boxed up and sent to a customer. So the higher cost is partially paying for the materials/labor of the rejects which adds cost.
Big fan of y'all, Josh and the Silca brand of products (I too use and love the first gen frame pump)... their warranty on product and customer service is all top notch. Congrats!
Not had any issues with my Elitewheels ENT disc 50mm deep, 25mm internal. £290 to my door, ridden around 80 miles without issue. They spoke to me all the way through the process. I've got a Ryet 3d printed seat and its been amazing.
The Silca floor pump is wonderful. Bought 25 years ago, you can still get replacement parts. One thing I found is all that oil and crap that sneaks in over the years gums up the ball check valve in the base. Easy fix. Nearly immortal!
I buy from Elite quite often, their AliX shop direct. It works very well. It’s been about 4 years & no issues. I have 3 sets. Latest is their Edge 36T. 3 friends bought from them, & one after 2 years got a replacement. He paid 99p for shipping, it didn’t take long to get over. It’s clear that Ryet’s model is not very good at all when things do go wrong. Just be wary of your purchases. In our cycling club, we buy from a diverse variety of brands. There were issues with 1. Giant’s hub, replaced by dealer. 2. Problems with VEL wheels, one wheel replaced This isn’t bad out of 60 off cyclists in the club.
@@irfuel I see what you are saying however it’s the same as those rubber straps in the video, the bike will still move. Just cheaper alternative to use bars in my honest opinion. 😃
I was lucky enough for my Chinese manufacturers to cheap-out on carbon on my 88mm deep section wheels, by replacing it with fibreglass. I crashed into a car, blew the tyre out, but the wheel survived. I had it checked by a carbon specialist, and he said the fibreglass saved it. Double win... heavy though.
I've had the same Silca floor pump for the past 25 years. I've replaced the leather a couple of times, the hose once, and the valve rubber. Serviceable>disposable.
I've seen a similar behaviour in a wheel in which the inside of the wheel pressurised whilst someone was setting up tubeless. If the rim tape or valve hole leak heavily when using a compressor or chamber type pump its possible to pressurise the chamber inside the wheel and cause delamination like this.
It’s the exact opposite. If you’re NOT racing, then carbon it is. It is breaks, just buy a new one. And as a non racer, you’re not gonna push the bike hard anyway. Cycling is largely a luxury sport anyway; something you do for leisure if you’re rich.
I bought 550$ carbon wheels set on Aliexpress from a taiwanese shop that has awesome reviews. 6k km and counting. Never got a single issue at all and they still feels like new.
Picked up some Ryet 50 mm carbon rim brake wheels they seem really well built perfectly true and around 1490g for the pair with pillar 2015 spokes. Cant see much difference with my hunt wheels. only these are lighter. Will test spoke tensions before use. Most carbon rims are made in shenzen so this could happen to any brand
I agree with you, I have some Ryet wheels, and I have ridden many kilometers without problems. They even survived a crash without problems, (I sent them to be reviewed), I think it was a production failure, I should negotiate with the seller for an exchange
SuperTeam. Say it with me. SuperTeam. Affordable, quality wheels. I've been riding a set for years now and they are still amazing. Stop with all these other bargain basement wheels. SuperTeam. Not that you'll ever see this, but I've suggested these wheels literally dozens of times. And their customer service is really, really good as well.
I have 2 sets of Superteam carbon wheels. Ridden them over 10k between em for over 2 years. They are amazing and quality wheels . Especially for the price point. Would always recommend Superteam.
Do you find them stiff enough? I have a couple of sets of classics (50mm rim and 45mm disc) and they are great but I do feel the flex and they catch the rims and discs when I get out the saddle.
I was looking at Ryet after your unboxing but decided to go with Elitewheel but in the end got a very good deal for Lun Hyper. The reason why I didn't go for Ryet is 1. You took a long time to post any thoughts on them which means there might be a problem 2. The aliexpress review sections have alot of defect reviews as well, carbon delamination in all of their product from bikes to wheels and handlebar. When compared to Elitewheels it doesn't have delamination problems. It's just way too much of a risk to get Ryet
been using Elite wheels... 6 years - 7 pairs. One issue with a bad bearing. But solid. Beware where you buy the products, Knock offs are everywhere. Test with ultra-sound.
I and my friends have Silca from 40 and 20+ years ago, and the newest stuff is sooooo much nicer than any of the original. The oldest is a bit sloppy but super reliable. The “super Pista” from 20+ years ago works, but feels and looks like junk compared to the new pumps. The new stuff is very expensive, but the fit and finish is 3+ levels above.
As an occasional fixie cyclist in very flat east London, 99% of what these two actually talk about is mostly meaningless to me.. but they're up there with my other favourite prats on youtube.... keep it up!
That seat pack is my favorite piece of gear, I have a c02 inflator, 2 c02 cartridges, multitool, tire lever, dynaplug tool and extra plugs, patch kit, backup tube,$20 and extra spd cleat and hardware all comfortably in there with room to spare
I'm very happy with Silca's products and very happy to see you sponsored by them! I've had nothing but success with their pumps, hot melt wax, chain stripper, drip wax, tubeless sealant, garmin mount, and bar tape. I recommend their stuff to everyone because how many other brands do so well across such a broad range of categories? If they make a product I need more of or need to replace I look to see if they offer it first because they have earned my trust as a very high quality/best offering I've found. Silca may be expensive but in a lot of cases the competitor's products at the same/near same price are noticeably worse, inferior engineering, or don't last as long. Hot take: Josh is like the bike Steve Jobs. Innovating way ahead of the competition. Carbon in the sealant to form a "fibrin clot" similar to human hemostasis, pebax bar tape (that's the foam in the nike marathon shoes winning almost everything), all in one chain stripper that' isn't terrible for you/environment (look at how people used to strip chains), emulsified drip wax(this is some chemistry magic), sous vide bag hot melt wax(so you don't need a wax pot removing the major barrier of entry genius)...nobody else is doing some of this stuff and if they are it's typically that brand's sole focus! Don't change Silca!!!!
I quickly check my newly bought rim(only) from Ryet while watching this video. No problem found yet, hopefully after being tested still the same good condition. Thanks for the honest rim review.
Turns out Josh couldn’t have founded Silca unless he was 130 years old - but he did acquire it and transformed the company a few years ago. Great to have Silca on board as a new sponsor, here’s a code for 13% off for Cade Media audience members: CADE13 silcavelo.eu
A second comment to say great at getting Silca sponsorship. I’ve watched videos with Josh and he is great so hopefully you can get him as a guest. But (there’s always a but) your Pro Bike Mechanic Nick swore by Fenwicks just a few months back, I bought and I’m sold!
I want to know how the frame pumps work when poping a chasing dog on the snout? Do they extend while being swung so as to cause the dog to misjudge the length & will they still pump air after discouraging said chasing dog?
I ordered a groupset from Ltwoo. Delivery was so delayed, that i bought a Sram on Amazon. Returned the package right in the post office and never even touched it. Refund was reduced by 30% due to bad packaging.... Chinese companys more than often rip off people, it is a common habit.
Every time I get disappointed by a cycling accessory I look at Silca. That's why I have a floor pump, bottle cages, mini pump, and a saddle bag from them. No regrets.
The Silca Terra is a beast of a floor pump. I bought it as my do-it-all bring-it-anywhere pump and it's survived a hectic CX season of teammates and randos grabbing it (it's to be shared!) and getting tossed in my trunk. It looks untouched! It's so relieving to know how durable a product is such that I don't have to worry about it. And of course, Synergetic is the only lube I use (likewise just can't be convinced to the trouble of waxing a chain).
I agree with you, I have some ryet wheels, and I have ridden many kilometers without problems. They even survived a crash without problems, (I sent them to be checked), I think it was a production fault, but in my case in mountain and aero road works perfectly
Jimmy hits the nail on the head! When buying a product it's not just about the actual item you're buying it's the consumer aftercare too! That's what worries me about sending my expensive money to China! I ride lots of budget carbon products that have more than likely come out of the self same factory as the wheels in this fim like Prime products from Wiggle. But I know where I stand if something goes tits up!
Ok So I have a Matone saddle bag on my road bike and it's super nice...hold just the right amount of stuff. I had their seat roll before that and...nah...the Matone is better. I also have that work stand widget...its great and easy to use. It's expensive becuase of the surgical silicon that is used on the "round" mount points. Josh wanted something that wouldn't draw the die out of your frame. I guess some rubber does that? Dunno but I feel it's just safe to have and not clamp carbon, ever. The chain prep stuff revolutionizes the chain waxing process. No more multi step stripping...I was skeptical initially but tired it and it's fantastic. I'm going to assume the surprise at the end is some Ti shop tool(s)? They look amazing but I just can't justify the cost.
a had a very similar problem with Yoeleo Carbon wheels. They are another chinese manufacturer and supposedly have a bigger emphasis on QA. The Rims even cost 800€ instead of just 240£. The tyrebed sepperated from the rest of the rim very simmilar as the wheels in this video, you can see them seperating at 1:27. Also Yoeleo refused to replace my wheels because they were a couple of months out of warranty.
I had a beautiful red SILCA pump stolen out of the back of my Jeep Cherokee in the mid 90s. I recall paying a lot of money for it back then, and I never replaced it. I miss that pump, it was great - but since then I've realized that the €20 plastic Decathlon pump puts air in the tyre pretty much exactly the same. Nice to see if I ever needed a very overpriced yet really nice SILCA pump, I could get one.
I really like Silca products don't love the price but you get what you pay for. The Hirobel Clamp is game changer for our Tandem....just imagine clamping a Tandem on the rear seat post...you can't clamp the front post because that's where the stoker stem mounts.
I actually think Ryet did alright by offering replacement based on pictures and videos. I wouldn't have minded paying little shipping cost, end of the day, it's coming from opposite side of the world. Shit sellers could have ghosted or blamed rider, which many renowned brands actually do. With a famous European brand, I had to ship back wheelset for their QC to check my claims and whole process was quite tiring. I'd rather pay less than a third price from Chinese direct sellers.
I've had a near exact same experience with a Farsports handlebar, except they're not honouring any warranty or taking responsibility. Happy to send that in if you want to name and shame!
Silca has been around for over 50 years. I have custom painted Silca frame pumps (with Chrome Campy pump heads) on a couple of steel bikes that were made in the 70's with pumps from that era. The original Silca made nice products at affordable prices and was mainly known for hand and floor pumps and brass air chucks. The Silca name was later purchased and the new Silca went very high end and broadened their product line. The current Silca is nothing like the traditional one and only shares the name......
Silca ultimate is definitely the best, but you need to pop a bit of silicone on the valve to stop the stuff from blocking it, also it’s wise to carry spare valves, I’ve been there 🤦♂️
I have them as well, The product came in damaged, out of true and they promised to replace it after sending some photos of the issues, which I did almost immediately. After a few days of sending them messages asking for updates, they won't replace the wheels. They say it's perfectly safe to use, and that I should use them. Terrible customer service.
Hey guys, i have had the same problem with my Elite wheels also known as Drive. Wheel has a bulge they want to send me a replacement with a fee of 60€ but only the rim!!!! So on top of that i need to get a whole new wheel built up
That’s a good point, other reputable brands from Europe might even manufacture in china or the east too but they get the trust bonus (personally) that they at least try to solve problems IF u encounter some.
I own too many Silca products, the Tattico is still my favourite pump, including the full-frame pump. A comparison with the gravel version might be a future video idea?
Which wheels from ryet are thoose exactly? I also ordered some carbon gravel wheels from the same company. They are called „2024 Carbon RYET GRAVEL Wheelset Disc Brake Tubeless Ready 700C Bike Wheels Center-Lock“. By the time i bought them (11.11. 23) they were called 2022 carbon ryet gravel etc.
I have the 55 mm aero for disc brakes and also the mtb ones, I have ridden them both very hard and many km without problems, I think this person has some with production defects
They essentially have no consumer protection laws or even copyright as we know it in China. It ends up a roll of the dice on a lot of stuff. We all buy good stuff from them on a regular basis, but really, you just never know... I think Trace Velo said it best, although this is not a quote: YOU are the QC with a lot of it.
Impeccable after-sales service given by the big name or not, if you make a 'front-face' they will not be there to send you flowers. 4:12 Qc past ...fire this inspector !
Silca sealant dried on my wheel in less than 2 months and i ended with unsealed small whole, and was very painful to remove from the tyre, also it blocks the valve
I see the appeal of Silva products, they’re clearly very high quality. But with an (indestructible) SKS trackpump going for €70, where does the prices come from? Are they made in Italy?
Sometimes it's not even about the QC it's about the laws / quality standards. For example, it's possible that for some parts depending on the batch size prododuced an Acceptable Quality Limit (AQL) can be used to check a specified sample size and if all of those parts pass (or in some cases there's a tolerance for allowable fails) then the batch passes and moves on to the next phase. While there could be bad QC's, bad parts doesn't automatically mean the QC is bad, it is possible that it's just a dud in the batch.
You nailed it. QC is the important part. Renomated brands do propper QC for basically the same products. So you have to rate for yourself if you can handle bad Quality. For inner tubes that might be fine. For your Frame, fork, stem, or wheelset you might not want to have that
Loving all the videos people and am pleased to hear you have another sponsor, but please...Absolutely no need to spend £100+ on a frame fit pump while you can still get the Zefal HPX for under £30. Had mine for 40 years in all weathers without a hitch and it's all aluminium ✊.
as long as you don't apply too much pressure using a bike stand on a carbon top tube is no worse that lifting your bike up with your hand by the top tube.
Im got a pair with new tech from them, 700$ but it at 1275 gram 24/24 hole 46mm height. It work very well, work for the money and still riding good after 2000 km with no issue .😊
I'm also planning to buy their ultralight wheelset. May i know if you're still using the wheels and what's the condition? Apologies for my bad English.
In my experience the biggest issue chinese brands have is consistency. Many brands only try to win over first time buyers with price, and they have very little (or no) QC, and also keep changing the product names and numbers every few weeks or months, so it's impossible to recommend, because by the time there is some experience with the quality of a product, it's off the shelves and there are news ones which are again of unknown quality. This is also not helped by the fact that their product descriptions are written like SEO-s, so it's nearly impossible to tell what specification they come with. I had years of experience running a local earphones community, and we barely had any chinese products as recommended, because they were so inconsistent. There are some reputable brands of course, but those tend to move towards localised reseller networks instead of selling on aliexpress.
Bit of a random Q - but what Folding Knife do you guys use for the Unboxing? I’m after a new one and I’m sure I saw a flash of one you guys used one Video..
It's quite possible that many off-brand products don't meet the quality control standards set by the major brands they're produced for. To avoid financial losses, manufacturers might opt to sell these products on the secondary market. It's a plausible explanation for the variance in quality between branded and off-brand items.
I agree with you, I have some ryet wheels, and I have ridden many kilometers without problems. They even survived a crash without problems, (I sent them to be checked), I think it was a production fault, but in my case in mountain and aero road works perfectly
Wow. Can’t believe somebody else bought some. I bought these over three years ago and have had zero issues. Seem to be plenty of good reviews on Ali express. At least there were when I got them.
I didn't get cheap carbon wheels but I would still appreciate an advice - is there a reliable way to tell apart surface scratches from forming cracks? Been riding my Levante wheels a few percent above the weight limit and I am trying to be extra careful. Thanks
I’m 100% with Jimmy - it’s about value for money rather than price and the comfort you get with a warranty from a well known brand. A quick search will find Shimano or Zipp for about £350 and Wiggle’s prime wheels (what I’m riding) around £250. It’s highly likely the wheels are made in China or at least Asia so it is about the company protecting its reputation
I bought XC carbon wheels from Velobuild that failed to kill me or, at the very least, send me to the hospital. When I bought their frame VB offered the wheels, I replied that I wanted these customized with an specific hub and spokes (bitex and sapim), so we agreed on price. The bike was then built at the local bike shop and I rode it for mere 350 Kms before the incident. I was starting a downhill at only 55KPH when it happened. We all heard a bang and the bike started skidding... I was so lucky it was the rear wheel that cracked... I was able to control and brake. It was the back rim that cracked. You can see a hairline fracture going between 2 spokes along the edge of the deep profile, by the same radial area you see a crack that cut the inner tube, it exploded and opened the rim. Velobuild never honored the warranty and insisted in a car accident despite me sending pictures of the bike in pristine condition (and no spokes bent or broken)
auto mechanics aerosol brake cleaner is a much cheaper way to clean chains. it leaves no film so a denatured alcohol bath is not necessary. apply emulsified chain wax directly to the chain.
I have rolled the dice after the video of the unboxing of these wheels. I have been waiting for the review video for months now. I would like to chime in an say after 200 miles, I love my wheels. 50mm deep 21mm inner width, 36t ratchet hub, and more then 100g lighter than my 30mm deep 19mm inner width alloy wheels. My LBS wouldn't touch them, I was told the spokes were counterfeit but was not told how they knew, they did say after my first 40 miles that they were properly dished and true. If the $400USD is all I can afford and I want the ease of wide inner width and a ratchet hub what does the community recommend as a larger company to buy a similar wheel?

I was quite impressed recently when I tried some Aliexpress DT Swiss 52 tooth ratchet knockoffs. For the price compared to the legit product I figured it was worth a try. They worked beautifully, sounded great for... five kilometers. The parts broke on a short, punchy and somewhat aggressive climb. I contacted the seller, they offered to replace the parts.

The noises that Jimmi was getting from the wheel were horrific.
@@ltu42 The Pista floor pump internals are the same as the original design. They just aesthetically updated the externals.
@@ltu42OK, but the new Silca stuff is 10x the quality of what I bought from the original Silca 20 years ago.
Happy for you that your order gets delivered to you. Mine does not!
“Towards the top off the range”
Bro, they’re selling mini pumps for 80-100 bucks.
I love good quality as much as the next guy but that’s just nuts. These aren’t even particularly lightweight or anything.
Silca's saddle bag is awesome. I was sceptical about the boa thing, but it is really practical, and looks great too.
I have the same wheels that you, and works perfectly, strong and smooth, I guess that was a fail of production!
Congrats!
At last my most awaited review, been waiting for this!!
Edit: Was planning to get them, but I now stand with what Jimmy said "Warranty is Important"
There were issues with
1. Giant’s hub, replaced by dealer.
2. Problems with VEL wheels, one wheel replaced
This isn’t bad out of 60 off cyclists in the club.
I use old drop bars on my repair stand, works exactly the same
That's what my mechanic uses
A €240 mechanical pump? Why? My decathlon pump is 10 years old and still going strong. Cost me £10 at the time.
And a $20 Casio watch keeps time better than a $5000 Rolex.
£240 for a wheel set… logical purchasing has left the room. When will people be able to distinguish between cheap and good bang for your buck.
I was never a fan of carbon and I'm only willing to use metal for anything important. Weight is a bit overrated especially if you are not racing.
It’s the exact opposite. If you’re NOT racing, then carbon it is.
It is breaks, just buy a new one. And as a non racer, you’re not gonna push the bike hard anyway. Cycling is largely a luxury sport anyway; something you do for leisure if you’re rich.
@@87togabito why not alloy for non racing? what do you get from carbon for weekend coffee ride?
@@87togabitofound the non-utility cycling consumer
Of course you can get a good wheelset for under £240 maybe not carbon but I don't really need that.
I bought 550$ carbon wheels set on Aliexpress from a taiwanese shop that has awesome reviews. 6k km and counting. Never got a single issue at all and they still feels like new.
I like shallow alloy wheels with 3x lacing, they just ride better and no drama of wondering if the rim will fail.
Thats what I just built. Havent got to ride them yet.
💯 can back this up. Been riding various different sets since 2015.
They are freely available on ebay in any configuration you'd like
I have 2 sets of Superteam carbon wheels.
@@Jalfred92 I find mine plenty stiff. Never had an issue with the wheel flexing. Maybe you’re just putting out some crazy power?
@@fennec13 We need to get these guys to get a pair and review them. I just never have any luck getting their attention.
I've got the Elite Drive rim brake and been sound so far.
been using Elite wheels... 6 years - 7 pairs. One issue with a bad bearing. But solid. Beware where you buy the products, Knock offs are everywhere. Test with ultra-sound.
I’ve had mine for 3 years. Bought with Dt Swiss hub and premium name brand spokes An option when ordering. No issues
I've only ridden on alloy rimmed wheels but looking at the wheel that failed I Think I'll stick to what I know.
Great content 👍 as always.
I would love to know how a new silca frame pump compares to a vintage one from the 1980s!
I and my friends have Silca from 40 and 20+ years ago, and the newest stuff is sooooo much nicer than any of the original. The oldest is a bit sloppy but super reliable. The “super Pista” from 20+ years ago works, but feels and looks like junk compared to the new pumps. The new stuff is very expensive, but the fit and finish is 3+ levels above.
thanks for the insight!...I keep coming across old silcas on the local second hand markets...i might pick one up if the price is right.@@ericpmoss
As an occasional fixie cyclist in very flat east London, 99% of what these two actually talk about is mostly meaningless to me.. but they're up there with my other favourite prats on youtube.... keep it up!
The end of the video with Jimmy in the tiny glasses from Mailbox Monday 😂
Great to have Silca on board as a new sponsor, here’s a code for 13% off for Cade Media audience members:

I know I'm about a year late, but WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!
I just love the realization that frame pumps are the nuts!!! Also a great baton for warding off unfriendly dogs!
No regrets.
Even lightweights the wallet
The Silca Terra is a beast of a floor pump. I bought it as my do-it-all bring-it-anywhere pump and it's survived a hectic CX season of teammates and randos grabbing it (it's to be shared!) and getting tossed in my trunk. It looks untouched! It's so relieving to know how durable a product is such that I don't have to worry about it. And of course, Synergetic is the only lube I use (likewise just can't be convinced to the trouble of waxing a chain).
How do you all feel about the Ryet hubs? I used them to build my wheels and haven't had any issues
16:29 He rolled the wheel away 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂☠️
Silca ultimate is definitely the best, but you need to pop a bit of silicone on the valve to stop the stuff from blocking it, also it’s wise to carry spare valves, I’ve been there 🤦♂️
Hi, were do I find the "neck strap" you use to carry the reflex camera on your back while riding?
I have them as well, The product came in damaged, out of true and they promised to replace it after sending some photos of the issues, which I did almost immediately. After a few days of sending them messages asking for updates, they won't replace the wheels. They say it's perfectly safe to use, and that I should use them. Terrible customer service.
Danke!
thank you!
Hey guys, i have had the same problem with my Elite wheels also known as Drive. Wheel has a bulge they want to send me a replacement with a fee of 60€ but only the rim!!!! So on top of that i need to get a whole new wheel built up
Great to have Silca on board gents. Great products. Mattone seat pack and oil I use and would definitely recommend
The "Big Brands" are also coming out of China, sometimes the same factory. Good Chinese wheel have great service. Winspace, Farsports, 9Velo....
The boa for the seat bag is a play on the old school shoe/pedal straps holding a roll up bag
Ive got Roval CLX like that. It is just the fearing. Not the rim itself.
I absolutely love my Silca frame pump. They make good products.
Low end manufacturing means Sub-contract so the wheel rim is non standard because of MULTIPLE contractors.
as long as you don't apply too much pressure using a bike stand on a carbon top tube is no worse that lifting your bike up with your hand by the top tube.
Where can I find the video of the last box?!
That tubeless sealant is AMAZING! Only one I will use from here on out.
I assume the sealant isn't dangerous when it sprays into someone's eyes, mouth behind you when you get a hole and it sprays a bit.
We’ve got a similar frame clamp at work, great for TT bikes with stupidly deep profile seatposts that won’t fit into the normal stand clamp 😂
I use that Silca saddlebag, the hotmelt wax and their sealant... I need that frame pump.
Bought my rims from ryet the 55mm version and 2k+ now no problems for me
I agree with you, I have some ryet wheels, and I have ridden many kilometers without problems. They even survived a crash without problems, (I sent them to be checked), I think it was a production fault, but in my case in mountain and aero road works perfectly
Love Jimmy channelling his inner Venjent at the end :D
Wow. Can’t believe somebody else bought some. I bought these over three years ago and have had zero issues.
Seem to be plenty of good reviews on Ali express. At least there were when I got them.
Jimmy, which camera strap are you wearing on the short Silca clip? I could use that for my Sony 😊
I believe it's an Innoclip strap. Was interested too so I tried so hard to search for it lol.
my experience with silca fiber foam is that it all clumps in a very short time, like less than a week. can you do a video testing and addressing this?
This one cracked just by fitting the tire.
The replacement was fine, so I'm happy with it, but I wish they would have checked it properly...
I lived and worked in China for 11 years, generally things are pretty good from there. However, customer service is not their strong point.
Congrats on the Silca deal, that’s top tier stuff. 🎉 I bought a Tattico due to pump action Francis action 😅
If ANY wheel of mine, whether steel, alloy, carbon or fairy dust, was exhibiting issues like that, I would stop riding it. Is Pierre brave or daft?
