This was an absolutely fabulous look at the Rouleur show. I have watched nearly all of the videos produced from the event and I can say with 100% confidence that I enjoyed your video the most! I love how you would preview the product, then talk to the reps off camera, then provide the detail via a voice-over...that is an awesome technique. All too often I see creators trying to interview the reps and things never come across in a coherent way. I also appreciated your opposing viewpoint on many items (mostly in relation to pricing). I fell that you handled this in a very respectful way. It is annoying to watch a creator cover a show where all of their takes come across like a paid advertisement. In your case, I love your content because I have grown to trust and value your point of view. Getting your point of view while still being respectful of the manufacturers definitely put your video head-and-shoulders above others. You need to work with Joe from Panda Podium and get together for the China Cycle show in Shanghai next May!!

This was a great video!!! Do more of these!!! You walked around and highlighted things that most of the population would focus on. Plus throwing in the comparisons from the "cheap" stuff you own to the expensive stuff was great.
It's nice to see some honest thoughts on the products displayed. Especially when it's "I think this isn't worth it" or "This look like a simple marketing stunt with no real benefits". Most channels are basically just YT adverts and for a regular cyclist it's far more beneficial to hear what a somewhat regular cyclist might consider buying or looking into in the future.
Great question... Probably one of those Reap bikes tbh. I love the fact they are made in the UK, and the guys behind it were really cool. Plus that prototype gravel bike looks so sick! Either that or the Seka spear I recon...

If you owned expensive bikes like this, the question is would you ever work on it yourself? A significant amount of the enjoyment I gain from cycling is the tinkering and the building and the customisation that I achieve through AliExpress.

I'm a 3D CMM Specialist and the first thing that popped in my head when I saw that 3D printed Scope hub: "That better be Titanium!". And later in the video we learn that it's only Scalmalloy. I'm quite baffled by this. Regardless SLM or EBM 3D-printing technology this material is intended for complex organic shapes. But a hub isn't a complex shape at all. Clearly Scope as a brand doesn't have the knowledge/expertise and just outsourced this project. But I think they knocked on the wrong door. I have my doubts if there is enough material around the spoke holes. And if it will hold up over time (fatigue). Even if it's okay for light weight riders I don't think this is the golden bullet compared to Titantium.
I know very little about this type of thing, but I was told that Scalmalloy would only do good for things like garmin mounts or even light mounts. That it is structurally less sound than carbon.
Bastion make incredible bikes. A mate of mine bought one, and it is completely made to measure, with 3D printed parts to get the best possible fit. If you have the money, you get something unique.
Great coverage. In fact, the best coverage i've seen of this event, easily. Decathlon is going disco disco w pricing. A friend of mine got a sram wireless version for such a good price that i told him it didnt make sense for me to build him a chinese bike. But that was early in the year, i forgot how much he paid, but people didnt believe me anyway. It is evident that depending on the country you're in, decathlon prices vary. And i know for a fact that prices have gone up over time. Supply and demand, presumably, because at the beginning they were sold out all the time because of the value their offered. My friend's biggest problem was to actually get his bike, because he bought the last one, had to be shipped from somewhere, blablabla. For days he didn't know whether they wouldnt simply cancel on him and refund him. Now, if decathlon has its bikes in stock, you know they found an equilibrium pricing, and the "no brainer" deal is no more. And +1 on the cannondale shenanigans. Cannondale playing the boutique exclusive high end stuff is just hilarious to me. For me they're almost like Giant. Great bikes, but not if you want to flex at the cafe.
Mate the fact is you were probably the ONLY dude to ride home……..you know? I mean that’s a big paint brush but you get what I mean. You purity in a show like that is what it’s all about. Grass roots is what drives these things. These companies are just chasing down some innovation and cash. No harm in that. Quite fascinating actually. Makes your following all the more precious.
I liked the premise in the title, 'AliExpress cheapskate visits boutique bike show', which you delivered well on. We need bike cafes where the waitress roller skates out to you, so you never have to leave the uber-dear bike unattended.

You and Joe are heroes. Nothing less. By the way, that EXS handlebar looks almost exactly like the one that came included with the Lightcarbon frame I just bought. I got their highest QC spec frame (based on one of Hambini's recent videos). The whole frame, including the handlebar, was 750 USD. It's arguably the best frame i've ever owned. (It looks A LOT like that Van Rysel frame except mine is matte black and so lighter).

Also, fully agree with your judgement at the end, those boutique brands like Bastion can at least justify their prices by making unique one-off bikes (whether its worth spending the money is a different question) but for some of these big name brands where you just get a different paint job, it really feels like a money grab....

Hi Luke, Loving your content and you did an amazing job vlogging The Rouleur craze 🥖🥖🥖 I work with carbon material all The time and to see “innovative” New carbon lay ups from small brands is lovely to see, but most of these ways of working with carbon is borrowed from other markets. The paintjobs in cycling are a work of art. For sure! Maybe you should join up with a Chinese manufacturer and use this type of new carbon and make your own besproken tracé velo-velo! Keep up the good work!
Luke, As I can attest from a bad experience I would love to have those tabs to catch the chain. I was out riding a few months ago and my LTWOO ERX over shifted and when my chain came off it completely obliterated the wheel. The chain ripped apart the aluminum anchors for the spokes. Elves USA was kind enough to sell me a replacement wheel at half the original cost. Great content as always. Keep it up.

Van Rysel was set up to be the normal price brand compared to the lower priced stuff that Decathlon does SOO WELL 👌

I have an S Works SL7 and I work on it myself, the only thing I won’t touch is wheels, if they need adjusted I leave them to a wheel builder

My friend's biggest problem was to actually get his bike, because he bought the last one, had to be shipped from somewhere, blablabla. For days he didn't know whether they wouldnt simply cancel on him and refund him. Now, if decathlon has its bikes in stock, you know they found an equilibrium pricing, and the "no brainer" deal is no more.
And +1 on the cannondale shenanigans. Cannondale playing the boutique exclusive high end stuff is just hilarious to me. For me they're almost like Giant. Great bikes, but not if you want to flex at the cafe.
Mate the fact is you were probably the ONLY dude to ride home……..you know? I mean that’s a big paint brush but you get what I mean. You purity in a show like that is what it’s all about. Grass roots is what drives these things. These companies are just chasing down some innovation and cash. No harm in that. Quite fascinating actually. Makes your following all the more precious.

You and Joe are heroes. Nothing less. By the way, that EXS handlebar looks almost exactly like the one that came included with the Lightcarbon frame I just bought. I got their highest QC spec frame (based on one of Hambini's recent videos). The whole frame, including the handlebar, was 750 USD. It's arguably the best frame i've ever owned. (It looks A LOT like that Van Rysel frame except mine is matte black and so lighter).

Also, fully agree with your judgement at the end, those boutique brands like Bastion can at least justify their prices by making unique one-off bikes (whether its worth spending the money is a different question) but for some of these big name brands where you just get a different paint job, it really feels like a money grab....
Aww thanks so much, really appreciate it!!! 😊 But yeah that Cannondale stuff kind of epitomises the side of cycling I don't really gel with. It's just manufactured exclusivity for the sake of it... Doesn't really serve much else that to exclude those who can't afford it

I work with carbon material all The time and to see “innovative” New carbon lay ups from small brands is lovely to see, but most of these ways of working with carbon is borrowed from other markets.
The paintjobs in cycling are a work of art. For sure!
Maybe you should join up with a Chinese manufacturer and use this type of new carbon and make your own besproken tracé velo-velo!

Luke, As I can attest from a bad experience I would love to have those tabs to catch the chain. I was out riding a few months ago and my LTWOO ERX over shifted and when my chain came off it completely obliterated the wheel. The chain ripped apart the aluminum anchors for the spokes. Elves USA was kind enough to sell me a replacement wheel at half the original cost. Great content as always. Keep it up.
