    Thanks so much for this video. My brake lever was not returning all the way and so I backed off the handlebar fixing bolt half a turn and now it returns perfectly. Surprisingly hard to find this information!!! Thank you!

    Fantastic video. Enabled me to successfully strip and rebuild a malfunctioning lever. Would have taken five times as long having to work it out for myself.

      May I suggest that at critical points you slow down a little and let the camera linger on the part you are working on. This would help see what goes where during reassembly.

    Hi there, first of all, thank you for the time and effort put into making the videos, you could just be "nosy" (as you say) and repair the items and keep the info just for yourself; making it available for anyone else who wants is something very honorable; I damaged the shift button assembly (the part you're talking about in minute 3:52 of the video) in an ultegra di2 st-r8070 (right) shifter, in a recent crash; I glued it to the shifter body with epoxy and it's working fine (the shift button still works, as well as the regular shift buttons on the shift lever), do you know if there is a replacement par available for this? Thank you

      Hi, unfortunately wiring loom is not available as a spare part. You can only purchase microswitch bracket, and springs. Did you damage the part at the top of the shifter, or a microswitch? If later, you can use any microswitch from R series onwards and splice it. Where are you based?

      @@Di2_GP Thank you so much for the quick answer; I damaged the plastic part, the wires are ok (hence the shifting is not affected), it's just a question of esthetics; I'm in Portugal, wish I was in the UK (I would pay you a visit for sure...). Keep up the good work ;)

      @@vmsrosa You could use soldering iron, and fill the missing part with PA (Nylon) polymer, then sand it. It should be as good as new. Check out my account on Instagram. I'll be posting an update on Ultegra 12 speed shifter restoration following a crash.

    First of all, thank you so much for your video. After a crash, the buttons on my right shifter (ST-R8070-R) aren’t working properly, and the brake lever is also very scratched. The issue is that in Shimano’s parts document (found on their official site, the EV document series), there are barely any parts listed. In your video, you mention some purchasable parts, like the button bracket, but that part doesn’t appear in the document. Do you know if part Y0E298030 is compatible with the ST-R8070? I mainly need the part number for the button bracket and the main brake lever, but I haven’t been able to find it. Thanks!

      Hi the only part available to purchase is a microswitch bracket, and 3 little springs, apart form that, there are he usual rubber hood, and a bar clamp. Yes, Y0E298030 will work on Ultegra R8070.

    Fascinating video, many thanks. Hopefully you will answer a question as you clearly have detailed knowledge of the shifter internals. I have ultegra R8070 shifters and need to bleed the rear brake but when I try to use the syringe, it's impossible to push oil into or out of the caliper, could this be due to something in the shifter/brake assembly that's stopping it? Many thanks 👍

      I would check hydraulic brake hose port in the shifter as this may be contaminated. Also, to eliminate the calliper issue. I'd swap front and back just to double-check.
      I callipers are ok, then I'd take shifter apart and the then blow compressed air thru the channels.

      @@Di2_GP It's really strange, it worked fine except was spongy, the bike had been stood and not used for some time. I went to bleed the brake which started ok but after a bit i went to push the piston back and cracked it. so I removed the caliper and bought a brand new replacement caliper, fastened the new caliper on and can't push or pull any oil through. although with the syringe attached, if i pull the brake lever i see the oil come out of the caliper and into the syringe tube, then when you let go of the brake lever the oil goes back into the caliper. don't think i'm confident to start taking the shifter assembly apart, i seem to have done enough damage already 🙂

      @@Di2_GP If you pull the brake lever the pistons move, which suggests it isn't blocked, but you can't put oil in with the syringe.

      @@leedixon2113 That's weird. As you said it is possibly worth visiting LBS, as it may be just something simple they can fix in no time.

    Hi, thank you very much for the informative video! I somehow managed to ruin the thread on the shifter for the bleeding cap. When I try to screw in a new bleeding cap, it wouldn’t go in. When I try the old bleeding cap, it engages but not all the way down, causing leaks. Do you have an idea of how I can fix it?

    @Di2_GP Great video! Do you know if you can buy the main body separately. I recently crashed and the main body broke off from the handlebar. The rest of the parts should be reusable.

      Hi, unfortunately, these aren't sold as spares. You can use either Ultegra or Dura Ace body, as they are the same.
      But you have to find a donor 😢

      Alternatively look for Y1XK98030. This part is made for MTB brakes, but it should work. Did you check yours and know there is a hole in yours?

    Hej, awesome info :) Any grease when putting it back together (on the pivots maybe)? I'll try to fix sticky lever, it's not very bad, so maybe just flushing the pump really good is enough?

      Thank you. I'm glad you found this helpful. When assembling hydraulics, is use a little bit of red rubber grease (amzn.to/3UNNkyX) so you can try this. However if your shifter is just a a little 'sticky' I would start by loosening your bar clamp. Over-torqued bar clamp is the main cause of sticky shifter. If the body isn't bent yet, loosening bar clamp bolt should solve the issue. Let me know if it worked ;-)

      It is coming back to original position, but there's no snap-back like on the other shifter and another bike I have. So, before taking it all apart I'll try to give it a nice clean.

      @@papimpimer9082 Yep, cleaning is always a good start. I'm working on a video, where I'm repairing sticky shifter. This involves some sanding and polishing, etc. It should be up within the next two weeks.

      @@Di2_GP So, cleaning did not help much, but polishing the piston and cylinder opening was a game changer :). Thanks again. Obviously i have managed to loose the little c-clip You said not to loose :D. Had to fabricate a little snap ring from an old spring.

      Sadly, Shimano doesn't provide these as spares, and I haven't found an aftermarket replacement yet 😢

      @@Di2_GP They seem to resemble the Shimano Deore XT piston seal kits that are available all over the web. Have you looked into this or do you have any more close ups of the rings?

      @yukhui yes, they look the same, but are 1 mm smaller in diameter. I did try it 😢

      @@Di2_GP If you can get more measurements of the rod I think we can find the seals online. It looks like one seal fits 12 x 6 x 3.5 mm and the other 12 x 7.5 x 3.5 mm. Can you confirm?

      I'm nosy, and often, it comes down to trial and error. If something is broken (there is a common misconception that if anything Di2 breaks, it has to be replaced), then in my opinion, you can't break it more 😉
