I remember a friend of mine use to have the Kyosho Ultima (one with the little driver helmet in the cock-pit). It upset him so bad that my cheap Toy Store Tyco 9.6v Super Turbo Hopper could run with his Hobby Shop pro RC car. I finally got the Kyosho Turbo Optima, loved it, graduated to a RC-10 finally.
Just ordered the ultima!
This brings me back to the good ole days of R/C. Thanks for posting this.
I have an Ultima and an Ultima ...turbo I think, same chassis, gold shocks, stabilisers and fiber shock towers.
Great design I think.
First model was a Raider. Was all I could afford back then. I was so disappointed with how slow it was. It was a decent design for a beginner car though.

I still got the Kyosho Optima Mid SE (Special Edition) model. Only ran for about two week. This car but in SE mode (see time 4:18)
It is almost like new if anyone is interested on this vintage RC car, just message me.

KYOSHO should re-release all these vintage buggies just like TAMIYA did with some of theirs.
Now I understand why kyosho took a backseat in the rc world,, It started in the late 80's,, the did a awesome job on the 2wd ultima in 87-89, but never improved to much..;(..
