I think with the budgetcap these kind of crashes really limit a team like Williams as well. Due to them not being able to update their car. Imo if you are a team that ends below top 5. These kind of damages should be partly free of the budget cap. As no good driver will want to drive for them (except Albon). This also contributes to more crashes

I assume Williams did not move everything back to UK for repairs but just the tub chassis, no? This reminds me of Haas when they had a series of crashes yet fans criticism was more brutal than with Williams.
At this point, they might need to add "not crashing" as part of the objectives for their drivers and team. It's almost like the set up of the car should be in such a way that it decreases the probability of oversteer or the rear giving in. I guess FIA could also step in give requirements for teams like they did when Merc was dominating
Bro, it only has been a few races and you are are saying they should fire Albon when he was the sole reason last year for scoring any points at all. If you want to blame someone then why not blame the team for being incompetant and made an undriveable car in the first place.
Poor Logan was actually making progress early in the race, but the crap pit stop dropped him 4 spots, and then almost wrecked it again trying to overdrive it. I hope Williams can get back to the front some day.
I just hope all this self caused pain that Williams are going through this season will end being the correct decision because they have basically written off this season on the hopes of coming back stronger next season. Because this is getting painful for fans to watch. We need Williams to be back up the front again
I kind of feel like, if you don't have the money or resources to build a really good all round car that's fast everywhere, it's not a bad thing to focus on one thing and do that really well. Previously Williams had a car that was nowhere at most tracks but a monster at Monza or Silverstone because it had crazy top speed. Even if they were miles off everywhere else, they could specialise in a few circuits where they knew the car's strengths would enable them to get a really good result. Now they're just kind of beige everywhere, maybe a bit faster overall than last season but at the expense of that explosive pace they had at power tracks. Instead of finishing 15th or 16th most weekends and then getting 7th or 8ths when they hit a track that worked for them, they'll now be 13th or 14th everywhere. Which is good in that over a season their average finishing position will be higher... but 13ths and 14ths don't pay points, and the money is divided up based on points.
It wasn't a monster at the tracks where they scored points, it was decent and could get a few points. If they want to become a decent team then they've got to improve everywhere else even if it costs them where they used to be good
Yes. I could even realize that by playing F1 games on the past. Deadlast in every last, but; Spend all on straight speed= Double finish in Monza/Spa= 8th in constructors. Did that multiple times.
You’d think a team that’s been in F1 for decades would know the importance of having a spare chassis ready. But bottom feeders in F1 still get to vote out any new team that wants to be competitive. When is F1 going to get rid of the rot?
Yep blame DR once again. A man has got to know his limitations, and from where I see it Albon has only himself to blame. Albon was being extremely ambitious trying that move on cold tyres. We saw DR sliding because of those medium compounds in those first bends. Once Albon took out DR’s rear tyre it was all over. 🤨
@@renatatostada3318 yeah it’s called the racing line, what was Albon even doing there? There was never an option for a move around the outside and DR was obviously watching his inside for an overtake.
Albon has had 2 crashes this year, with one of them being his fault. The Australia crash was estimated to have cost $500K in damage repairs by James Vowles. It's safe to assume that the repair costs for the Japan crash will also be similar. So Albon has caused a maximum of $1 million in damages. Meanwhile, Sargeant has had 1 crash this year, which, according to Williams, damaged the floor, front wing, all suspension, and cracked the gearbox as well. All of these components had to be replaced, costing around $600-800K, so less than Albon's current cost. However, considering the fact that Logan caused almost $4.3 million in damage last year compared to Albon's $2.8 million, and the fact that most of the former's incidents were objectively his fault, Albon's cost-per-point from 2023-2024 overall comes down to $140,740 per point. Meanwhile, Logan's total comes down to nearly $5 million per point. I think it's safe to say that Logan has cost the team more than Albon and has provided less in return. And I am sure that will play a part in contract negotiations.
What a joke of a team. F1 says Andretti is not worthy. At least Andretti has the cash to be competitive. Williams has been a complete disaster for a long time, just running on the founders good name
Albon should never drive his team-mate's chassis again, EVER. He's been bit accident prone throughout his Racing career. Not as heavy as some, but not as squeaky clean as others either.
Just a few seasons ago, Mick Schumacher was absolutely crucified for the same thing. Are we going to do the same thing for an experienced and well liked guy like Alex now? Or is he too British for that?
You're in a Williams, you have no spares, no money...but lets try and go 3-wide at turn 3. Everyone blames Daniel for it, but it was lap one. If Alex was faster he could have got him later. He shouldn't have taken that risk. I also dont understand how the FIA lets these under-equipped teams keep competing while turning down fully equipped and funded entries like Andretti. Having enough spares to field two cars after one crash should at least be a minimum requirement.
Some of these youngsters lack race craft imho. Carlos is finally showing the benefits of a decade of experience. With limited testing and practice, races have become driver training sessions.

100%, and the you run Stake out there for a year with their craftsman tool pit stops, how would it not be OK for Andretti to get his shot if you’re willing to sit through these teams’ growing pains?
the thing is, if Andretti were to enter 2 more cars, they would have to cull the slowest 2 cars, this loses sponsorship money for the team in question, F1 needs to be a round business fro everyone, so they just want to keep it like that to avoid slower teams like K or Alpine losing more money and leaving the sport altogether

The fact that Albon can think how bad this is financially for Wiliams, while he is on his way to hit the wall, shows how much those cars are safe nowadays.
"turned into blindly by Ricciardo"... that paints the incident in a very once sided light. Albon had zero room to be trying to push up into T3 like that. There was never room, and yet he tried. Racing incident at best.
Totally agree the wording of that statement is a bit over the top. "Unfortunate first lap incident 20 seconds into the race involving DR....." would have been a more apt description. We are all geniuses in hindsight and TBH (on the first lap) the move was never on and the result showed it.

I understand why Albon went for the gap, but DR isn't to blame for going back onto the racing line and the driver in the back should be aware of being in a blind spot. It's a long season and Williams and Albon took a risk and it didn't work out.

James vowels feeling like Gordon Ramsay when he visits kitchen nightmares working at Williams
I’ve watched F1 since 1976 and seen the rise and fall of many teams including Williams. I really hope they can stay the course and get back to at least competing and finishing for points. With James Vowles at the helm I believe this will happen, his skill and deep knowledge of processes from his Mercedes days will bring back brighter days at Williams
Sargent somehow blamed for his teammate crashing his car twice according to how Williams has acted.
This really should hurt Albons reputation

Short term pain , long term gains
100% agree the team will bounce back strong.
Nah.. never
They are almost better off not showing up for a race in order to get a chassis under them.
No, if they miss a race, they might lose up to 43 points. Yes, I grew up near Disneyland, how did you know?
If they don’t show up to a race, they don’t get income from sponsors
The distance between Japan and UK is only about 14 cm I measured it on my computer screen with a ruler. So it's really not that big of a distance to cover.
If they knew they were in such precarious situation, you'd think they would tell the drivers "stay back, stay out of trouble and don't push the first couple laps, don't worry about where you qualify, we just need you to finish and finish in 1 piece for the next 2-3 races". But nope, they went for it and got tangled up and now they are in even worse situation.
Well, they need the points, if you don't push you finish last, had they done that last year they would've finished 8th or even 9th in the constructors championship.
@@Lianpe98 i get that but how many points have they gotten with only being able to field 1 car? Or what if they can’t even start the next race because neither driver has a chassis? Williams not doubling down on their straightline speed has cost them. It was the only thing allowing albon to get some decent results sporadically. Yuki vs Haas is the only battle for anyone to get points who isn't RBR, merc, Ferrari, McLaren, and Alonso. Stroll has proved this year he still can't be a consistent top 10 finisher.
Williams made big changes to their operating systems over the winter which won't have been easy.
Hopefully the current pain will make for future success.
Danny Ric turned into him??? Come on lads the guy is on the outside seconds after the start with a left handed sweep up ahead and it's DR's fault? Where's Albon's patience and awareness of not only his track position being on the outside and situation being lap1 but also risk in relation to his teams perilous situation?
I think with the budgetcap these kind of crashes really limit a team like Williams as well. Due to them not being able to update their car. Imo if you are a team that ends below top 5. These kind of damages should be partly free of the budget cap. As no good driver will want to drive for them (except Albon). This also contributes to more crashes
Side point - this just adds more evidence that any idea of net zero is just ridiculous

I assume Williams did not move everything back to UK for repairs but just the tub chassis, no? This reminds me of Haas when they had a series of crashes yet fans criticism was more brutal than with Williams.
Mazispin....
At this point, they might need to add "not crashing" as part of the objectives for their drivers and team. It's almost like the set up of the car should be in such a way that it decreases the probability of oversteer or the rear giving in. I guess FIA could also step in give requirements for teams like they did when Merc was dominating

Going for 2 Chassis with a Sargeant in team is absolute madness
It's even funnier realizing both are broken right now and neither was his fault lol
Williams should fire both Albon and Sargent, both of them aren't up to the task and neither of them can keep the car clean.

True he was holding that 12th spot well til the pit ruined him
I know it's not entirely his fault, but Ricciardo seems to put more and more nails in his already nail-filled coffin with every race.
Deadlast in every last, but;
Spend all on straight speed= Double finish in Monza/Spa=
8th in constructors. Did that multiple times.
Keep in mind, the "ultra competitive" midfield is everybody except Max.
Can they use an FW-14 until they’re fixed? They sound and look better than modern cars.
Have the Williams cars spent more time at 38,000ft than on a track this season?
Williams in 2024 reminded me a lot to Williams 1998 due to how consistent they are in terms of crashing.
You’d think a team that’s been in F1 for decades would know the importance of having a spare chassis ready. But bottom feeders in F1 still get to vote out any new team that wants to be competitive.
When is F1 going to get rid of the rot?
They did, it was a deliberate risk on their part.
Did you even watch the video?
The broken chassis are Logan’s fault? Even though Alex’s crashes are offs that broke them? Can someone explain?
Yep blame DR once again. A man has got to know his limitations, and from where I see it Albon has only himself to blame. Albon was being extremely ambitious trying that move on cold tyres. We saw DR sliding because of those medium compounds in those first bends. Once Albon took out DR’s rear tyre it was all over. 🤨

Albon has caused at least 2.3 - 2.5 million dollars in crashes but I can already see people blaming Logan for everything lmfao
Omg Albon crashed 4 times in two season😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 (logan crashed at least 12 times)
Now compare how many times each have crashed since they are teammates.
F1: But what could you possibly add to the F1 brand and competition?
Andretti: I bet you I could field two cars every race.
Not gonna lie, cheaper to move the base!
What a joke of a team. F1 says Andretti is not worthy. At least Andretti has the cash to be competitive. Williams has been a complete disaster for a long time, just running on the founders good name
AND a highly illustrious history Frank, along with ppl like Ken Tyrell laid the foundations of F1 with gigantean effort and commitment
I can't imagine what the work shifts looked like for the people back at the factory trying to get everything patched up and sent back.
It would be brutal to be a mechanic/technician over at Wiliams. 😂
You are absolutely correct. Yes he speaks with a British accent so will never get punished for it.
To think Albon used to drive for Red Bull...

Sadly when you find yourself qualifying at the back of the midfield your odds of shunting grow and grow.
Over the longer season in Formula One you can trust that Williams will not be the only team feeling the pain in the not too distant future.
Williams is the team I'm rooting for as a new fan as well. Mostly because that's who I picked for my first playthrough in F1 Manager 2023. And I had no idea Sargeant was also an American until after I had decided to root for Williams. And being American myself I feel it's only natural I root for a fellow countrymen of mine. He seems like such a nice kid that has been having some bad breaks since day one. I'm cheering him on from America also. Williams is such a historic team and I'm hoping they can get it together.
Albon might be a fast driver, but he still has a crash tendency even without Red Bull pressure. Not sure he'll ever make it back to top 3-4 teams
Turned into blindly by Ricciardo?! Then why no penalty? Sheeeesh
This is exactly why Haas went with experienced drivers. You save money on repairs.

Probably the mechanics. By all accounts, Rueda strikes me as the type of person who has no idea what’s going on. Utterly oblivious.
Don't! I literally cringe every time someone mentions Inaki Rueda's name. 😬
Crashes should not be part of the budget cap. The intention of the budget cap is stop teams spending on performance. This is having the opposite effect, so the rule has overcorrected and needs to be adjusted to get a better balance.
Crashes caused by other teams shouldn't. If you crash your own car then you are on the hook.
Teams would use them as a way of doing upgrades.

We might have to keep an eye on the williams catering budget this year
Ultimately just unlucky, could have gone either way. Pretty rough they gave Logan's chassis to Albon, only for him to not score point with it and to crash that one as well, resulting in 2 damaged chassis with Albon behind the wheel, no points and having shown to not have confidence in Logan with nothing to show for it.
At this point they should start charging the drivers for every car they crash
Tractors are notoriously expensive to repair.
Did they use Excel to calculate these expenses?
Albon was responsible for 2. In poor position on track in Japan. Albon should have been more race aware. He should be replaced
And yet Mick Schumacher caused way more damage for Haas over his two seasons than Albon and Logan have combined.
F1 is a sport of money. If they can't keep up, then maybe F1 ain't for them or F1 needs to change something to give smaller teams a chance to compete.
