- The views from Fremont Lookout are amazing! The hike starts from the Sunrise Visitor Center on the northeast side of Mount Rainier, and heads up toward Frozen Lake like many of the trails in that area.
On the day I went it was sunny and clear, and the Lookout area was a haven for mosquitos! Even though I had on mosquito spray, I had to pull out the Bug Net! If you have one, it can be a huge help during the summer!
*Correction* A viewer let me know that the mountain peak at 10:39 is Glacier Peak, not Mount Baker.** Glacier Peak is also a volcano and is south of Mount Baker.**
The large green meadow with evergreen trees, that you can see below the Lookout, is Grand Park. I hiked that a couple weeks after this hike, here is the link to my Grand Park hike:

The trail maintainers did a great job in that scree field section by staking up the rocks. Very nice. Awesome to see the marmot and the goats. Hi Packs! Thanks for joining me! Isn’t that part of the trail wonderful! I’m pretty sure the CCC built the Fire Lookout in the 1930s, and they probably built that section of trail too- it’s really held up over time and weather! I should get a history book of the park so I know more… I’ve been having lots of fun exploring the trails in the sunrise area this summer. I love seeing the mountain goats, and the little critters too. Thanks a bunch!!
Me and my daughter was just there two nights ago. Started the trail at 4 in the morning to catch the sunrise on Mt. Rainier. Such a beautiful place. Still on our trip. Heading to the North Cascades for our final destination.

I remember doing this hike a few years ago but never made it all the way to the tower due to really high winds that almost knocked me down. Great views, I love that area by frozen lake. Great to see the goats too. Nice to see it all from the tower. Glad you got to test out your net too.

Hi and thanks, Jennifer Lupine for sharing. Wow, I am glad to explore Mount Rainier through your lens. Especially, I made a kayaking trip to Washington state in early June, and feel like it was last week. I kayaked from Anacortes and observed Mt.Olympic and Mt. Baker covered with snow. Seals and porpoises are my first time observing in the wild. It was a really spectacular view I cannot forget. Is a 5.6mile trail oneway or roundtrip? Breathtaking...you can almost touch it where I saw from the sea.---7;17. Are they mountain goats---8:49? OMG, this view is the same...I cannot forget from the sea---10;41. I wish I had enough time to hike. Adding to my bucket list for the next time. Again, thank you so much. 🛶🛶🙋♀🙋♀

Mount Baker and the Olympics are really amazing- fantastic!! yes, the hike is just 5.6 miles round trip= 5.8 miles one way, with some elevation gain... it wasn't too hot, but out on the open areas with a sunny day it felt pretty warm. Yep, there are mountain goats in the park, and they tend to hang out in that area neat the Lookout. Thanks so much for watching and saying hello... happy travels to you! Wow, what a hike! So much snow still up there at the top! Does it always stay that snow covered? Those views are spectacular in every direction! Loved the little chick Munk and marmot, how cute! I didn't hear you say it, but it looks like you were up past the tree line (or pretty close), I'm sure oxygen was pretty thin! Hi Paul! You could do this one, but you’d have to wear a sun hat and bring lots of sunscreen, bug spray and water! 🤣 The trailhead is at 6,400’ and goes up to about 7,200’. 👌Yes, so that’s just about the tree line there. There are 25 named glaciers, (plus more unnamed glaciers and ice fields) on Mount Rainier, the elevation at the summit is 14,410’ … so yes, it stays snowy, icy and white all year. Thanks for joining me! We’re doing well, (even though it was 90 her today) and hope you are too! 😄🏔🏔🏔

What spectacular scenery . I love the fire lookouts in the areas I have been too... With loving solitude that would have been a job for me... But alas no longer in service...
Those were the days! There are still quite a few of the old lookout buildings that we can hike to in WA. Just a couple years ago we hiked to one near Oregon where a lady was still stationed all summer. She was outside talking to the hikers, like a tour guide, explaining her job and what life is like living there. I think the night skies would be amazing… but it would probably be scary for me, when there was a fire or bad stormy weather. So do they maintain the old lookouts in Wyoming? A few here have been adopted by local groups who maintain them. Really nice when we can preserve some history. Thanks Max!! 😄🏔🏔🏔

I got to see quite a few marmots that day... they didn't seem too concerned with the hikers going by... and the chipmunks seemed to be all over the area :) The snow just melted off this area and the trails became clear about 2 weeks before. Thanks for stopping by! :)
That was fabulous Jen but so funny seeing snow in the summer when you walked along near the snowy ridge and seeing the snowy covered mountain nearby . Loved that there are robins and chipmunks and marmots all about there, along with mountain goats and you got a great shot of that bird perched on a tree admiring the view! Very cute squirrel eating something too and I love how you film these little creatures as you walk because it gives us a real feel of what the location is like. I enjoyed seeing all of these as well as enjoying the beautiful hike that you did. Mount Baker looked stunning and that was great footage of you stood next to the big cabin . Hello Anna! I’m so happy yo can feel what it’s like to walk along the trail with me! I was so happy o notice so many animals… several chipmunks and marmots, birds and the mountain goats! Yes, the snow on the trails the was several feet deep even at the end of June, and it has just mostly melted by mid-July. Mount Rainier has a summit elevation of14,410’ (4,392 M), and has 25 named glaciers and many more unnamed ones and ice fields… so it’s snowy and icy and white all year round. I always feel happy when I’m there- thanks so much for joining me 😄 Hope you’re having a great summer! ☀️☀️☀️🐝🌼
This hike looked like an absolute adventure! The views were breathtaking and seeing those mountain goats added to the whole experience. 🏔 The snow on the trail and the serene nature scenes were truly magical. The Marmots and chipmunks were pretty busy, I think since the snow just melted in the last 2-3 weeks there were ready to get busy finding food. I was fortunate to have good weather, and get there early enough to see lots of animals! The marmots and chipmunks are always fun to watch. The mosquitos were pretty crazy- plenty to go around for each of the hikers! They aren’t as bad once you start walking again. 😂

Still funny to see so much snow in the summer but nice that you had your choice of parking. It looked a real nice trail to follow and fantastic scenery looking at the snow covered mountains. The views just kept on getting better and betting all the way up to the lookout tower and what a place to have lunch (bugs apart). This hike is quiet nice, reminded me of our hiked in Alberta once again. Decent hike not as far. The frozen lake is amazing. It must be cold even in the summer. Truly spectacular.

It seems unusual that they would be in that type of environment, but there were plenty of them to bother each of the hikers- lol!! I believe they taper off later in the summer, at least we can hope. Looks spectacular! The pines against that snow background is FANTASTIC! The view at 3:46 was PERFECT - loved it! The lake was so cool - the color of the water on the snow was amazing! Hi Karen and Shannon! I was so happy to have a sunny, clear day! Aren’t the views amazing! The trails were still snow covered on July 5th when we drove up to Sunrise Visitor Center…. so after just a couple short weeks all the snow on the trails was mostly melted on July 21st when I did this hike. I love the view of the area whew the mountain goats were too… down below there I called Berkeley Park, and I’ve hiked there before too…. wonderful!

Hi Renata! I always love hearing from you, thank you! I always enjoy hiking at Mount Rainier, and having a sunny day was extra special! The snow was several feet deep on the trail even in early July, so it’s just finally melted and we can safely hike these trails. It was so fun to see the animals, who didn’t seem very shy at all. It's nice to see a video that looks and feels just like the actual hike, with no quick edits and unneccesary music. Thank you so much for this, it's a favorite hike of mine. That first mile, even though it looks so benign, is the part that always gets me, due to the elevation.

Hi Karl! That was a marmot! I saw quite a few that day… they were all in the rocky areas, and didn’t seem to be too shy. The snow has just melted at their elevation in the past couple weeks, and I think they are busy enjoying the great weather. It sure was fun to see the views and mountain goats.
