Thank you for watching #gregvirgoe #vanlife #tinyhome Хобби
This was the best explanation of the Truma Combi system that I have seen. Even a tour of the Truma factory in Munich Germany, with commentary by Truma engineers, produced by the Fit RV, another RV channel on RUclips, did not cover it as well as you did. Kudos to you for a great and informative video. Cheers from Houston Texas!
wow, I don't know what to say. Thank you for such a fantastic comment.
Greg, Thank you for what you are doing, this is clearly the best video series on the subject matter available on the internet. I genuinely appreciate the effort you are putting in. I am trying to share it with anyone who is interested in the topic. :) have a great one and keep em coming!
Really appreciate your support, thank you
Love nerding up on Gregs videos! Thank you Greg for your time and reliable info!
Incredible, amazing, fantastic, you've thought of everything! We're all very lucky to have your assistance! Thank you Mr. Virgoe
Thank you for watching and giving me such great feedback
Greg your attention to detail is absolutely remarkable, your planning is unrivaled. Many thnaks like always for your videos they are phenomenal.
Thank you for such great feedback.
Awesome !!! we have the same boiler fitted already and the knowledge of its workings is invaluable ...
Hi I’ve only just discovered your Amazingly informative videos. Your very generous to be sharing your thoroughly researched results, that you put across very well. I for one am thankful
Than you very much for such great feedback and i'm pleased you enjoy the videos
As an IT guy, I learnt to turn ideas into reality by research, design, think, review, think, review, think, review and only then build. Yours is the only van build series that has clearly done that. The design/build it as you go approach may be valid, but leads to most people having a big list of things they wish they'd done differently. And the van becomes an ongoing reconstruction project.
kevgermany I had a pretty solid plan from the start to know where I needed to run services during first fix. My years of project management obviously paid dividends there.
Thanks for the appreciation
Dude, your videos, are brilliant. You are helping me so much. Thank you for taking the time.
Been looking for ages for someone who knows what there on a about, top man Great videos
With the effort you put into the vlogs can’t wait to see the van finished, good luck with the build .
It's taking a bit longer than anticipated but the effort will be rewarded.
Many thanks for your support
Another fantastically informative video from you, Greg. Thanks for taking the time.
It's a pleasure and glad you liked it.
I am a mechanical services electrician, although we do things more so related to cooling rather than heating in Australia, fantastic video series you are producing a big thumbs up
Greg I love your videos, I’m a heating engineer plumber and you explained that very well....
Thank you very much
Very nice presentation. I have been using my Truma in our RV since 2008 and still working as good as new. Good quality and great performance. Don’t have the option of electric heating of the water but yet but that is a spare part that I hope to install now that I am extending my roof solar from 100 watts to 1000 watts and a 3000 watt inverter.
That’s great to know you’ve had 9 years good service.
I’m only planning to use the electric heating when on hook up as 900w or 1.8kW would kill my batteries in no time.
Excellent, clear, educational and inspirational again - thank you Greg for sharing
Great feedback, many thanks Martin 👍🏼
These videos are so good. The effort you go into really shows, thanks
Makes my day to know they are appreciated. Cheers
Another great piece of info Greg. I was originally thinking of a heater similar to the night heater in my truck running on diesel, but this system is far superior & combines the hot water function. Once again your info is a great help in my research before I take the plunge.
You're most welcome John, I'm pleased it was useful to you.
Love your videos, so detailed and explanatory
That really means a lot to me, thank you
You sir, know your requirement and the correct solution very well! I enjoyed your explanation of the heating system & its functions. Seems like high tech equipment. The ability to have a place to dry clothes is a advantageous. Eagerly waiting for the installation video.
Thank you, I think the vent in the wet room will be a game changer, we could also dry some washing in there too.
Excellent video Greg. Up to your usual very high standard. Perfectly explained.
Regards Mark in the UK.
Many thanks, Mark, I had two bites at this one, the first days shooting it took me an hour to get 30seconds of usable film.
Still, there's plenty in the can for the gag reel lol
I was surprised to see that this kind of heater exists factory made. I have planned to make a same type of heater system with a diesel Eberspächer/webasto, a radiator, a watertank and piping with reservoir and "coolant". Great video, as all the ones before. Really helped with planning my build!
I was searching for some time for the perfect showering and heating solution. This boiler does have a lot going for it.
Pleased it was useful to you.
Just found your channel Greg. I'm glad I did. Excellent presentation. and clear drawings. Great stuff, just subbed.
Welcome aboard thanks for watching 👍🏼😃
That's some nice kit Greg. I'll have to save up and bookmark these next few install vids for later!
Yes, this is a game changer for us for sure.
Can't wait to see you install the heater and get running, all the best
Many thanks for your continued support Barry
Another great and concise video really enjoying the build and cannot wait to see the end product, thank you Greg much appreciated
Thank you for the continued support Paul.
Your more than welcome and it’s been great to see your subscribers increase so much well deserved
Another excellent video Greg , I have been pondering what system to put in my sprinter as we are at the same stage of the build in our sprinter.
You have most definitely sold me on the trauma system also my wife as she’s always cold and it’s a big concern for her ,
Thanks for another great video and eagerly awaiting the next instalment
This heater certainly will deliver bags of heat, we will definitely not be cold in our van that's for sure.
Great video as usual. As a newbie, I learn a lot from you!
Simply amazing! Such a great help these videos are 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What a great system! You had me at 'GSM & Bluetooth enabled'! ;)
I'm looking forward to getting this one up and running.
Great Job Greg ! Already excited to see those installation videos. ATB Marc - Belgium.
Than you Marc, With the lighter evenings and hopefully less rain and snow I will be able to pick up the pace a bit more.
did you know ...the Truma name was founded in 1949 in germany , and was actually named after the u.s president Truman. it was named after him as a mark of respect for his efforts and support in rebuilding and restoring germany after ww2.
Thanks for that interesting fact. 👍🏼
amazing video! very impressed.
Excellent introduction. Will be waiting for the installation videos. Thanks a lot for sharing
EARTH IS HOME you don't need to wait, here it is ruclips.net/video/zCjygu0ygKE/видео.html
EARTH IS HOME and here is the one on the ventilation ducts ruclips.net/video/7_KXMQgla0w/видео.html
Awesome video! Thank you. looking forward to the follow up installation videos as well .
Have been running all the power and control cables for this system today. :D
very cool piece of equipment. well documented Greg : )
Much appreciated, cheers
Greg, Thank you very much for putting all this very usefull info out. As a fellow engineer, I really like that you have thought trough everything yourself instead of copying from one video to the next. I see people doing things that makes me rethink all their information, but I also don't want to reinvent everything. I don't worry about that with your videos. I'm going to build next 6 months and then travel around Europe for atleast a year. Your videos are very helpfull. Thanks!
Yes I too have seen lots of silly mistakes and mis information.
I do my best to give the right information that also com plus with any codes and standards so I’m happy that you are getting sound advice. Thanks for the great feedback and best wishes with your build 😃
I'm running out of compliments, I maybe repeating myself: Another great vid, excellent detail! :)
As always, I really appreciated your continued support. Thank you
your presentation are very informative and professional looking
Thank you very much
exerlent again Greg. cant beat being toasty warm :)
We’re going to be wearing shorts and T’s all year round the amount of heat this kicks out. Tropical 🌴 springs to mind. 😂
Love your videos mate!
Thank you, much appreciated.
Great Video Greg. The mystery of the boiler is solved. Always wondered what made a Truma so efficient and user-friendly.
Warm air heating has been about since Roman times, and the boiler since the industrial revolution, but now we can control it to fractions of a degree and from anywhere we like. Definitely a very nice bit of equipment.
Yes most defiantly. The ingenuity of the Romans never ceases to amaze me.
Hi. Looks great.
Best wishes.
Another wonderful video from a master content creator!
Love the Truma Combi units. However, they're way out of my price range. Therefore, it's a 16K BTU direct-vent propane heater, plus direct-vent instant hot water heater (also propane-fueled) for me.
As always, I'm looking forward to your next great video Greg. Keep up the brilliant work.
Really appreciate your continued support John, Thank you
I foooooking love your videos. THANKS
Thank you very much
Thank you for explaining how this works, excellent diagram and detail! Its a very efficient system.
Outside and inside air are heated, and while air heater is on, it also heats up the water, very smart!
The phone app and SIMM card remote control, propane tank accurate gauge is just genius! Truly remarkable German technology! Even named after US President Truman! When I build my van, I don't care how much this costs or how hard to get hold of one, I am getting this system and no other. Its a marvel of science and so beautifully created that it should belong in the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).
Here are some other facts for viewers:
1. The only deal breaker for Americans may be that this runs on 240V so do they make a
version for US market at 110V or will this run on a step down adapter from 240V to 110V?
2. I looked up cost on ebay and its not cheap at US $2700 approx.
3. Truma in Germany does not sell the Combi directly to consumers, only dealers.
4. You can look up specs and buy it from this Aussie dealer at AU $2400 + AU$32 shipping.
www.mygenerator.com.au/truma-combi-4e-kit-gas-heater-hot-water-system.html
5. The weight of the Truma Combi 4e is 15.8 kg or 35 lbs
6. On the link above, you see all accessories, ductwork diagram, and specs.
7. Yes, you can run the water heater independently of the furnace heater. However, your hot
water is also heated for free if you run the furnace.
8. Combi runs on a variety of fuels and power sources: gas, diesel, propane, AC, DC, and using
hot engine while driving if you duct it that way. Refer to link above.
Thank you Greg, for another great video and adding to the RV/Caravan knowledgebase!
that was fantastic mate thank you for taking the time to share atb gaz
It makes it so worthwhile to receive such high praise. thanks
Nice video well done Greg :-)
Thank you very much Malte
A great product! Looking forward to seeing the installation process. Keep on truckin Greg...Now it's really coming together! ;-)
Thank you very much Andy
Cost..
Cheers! Love your work....
Thank you John
Brilliant Greg been looking for a video on these Heaters as I planing to fit one seen plenty of good reviews on them but not any good videos looking forward to seeing your up coming videos . thanks
Thank you, what vehicle are you working on?
Hi greg it's a peugeot boxer lwb still a long way to go yet iv put few clips on my channel cheers
Brilliant video Greg - I think Truma are lucky you came along as this is an exceptional demonstration of their product. Cheers :-)
That's really nice of you to say so thank you very much
Loving your videos 😎👍🏻
Thank you Neil
absolute pleasure brilliant videos keep them coming Greg
Can't wait to see the finished product. We are on the same boat, but with 2 bikes. Our dilemma is fitting the bed while the bikes are in stow.
I tussled with that issue for months trying to find a suitable solution.
It has been done but the headroom above the bed is minimal.
For me, it looked a little claustrophobic not being able to sit up in bed.
It's not ideal that the bike will be outside the van but for comfort, it's better.
Great information thanks 🙏
Nice,,,Heater and explanation,,, Best Regards
Thank you very much
Love your straight forward yet comprehensive explanation of this fantastic product. When is the install video coming out?
Hello Erik, we are currently filming the installation of the services. The water tanks are done, next is the heater, will be out very soon. Thank you for watching.
Brilliant as ever:)
Thank you
Thanks for designing my entire conversion for me 😅❤️❤️
Thanks for the great video!
I'd still go for diesel version if you plan for more than couple of days offgrid in cold weather.
Combi 4 eats around 0.2Kg (0.4L) LPG per hour in a van like your Sprinter with 0-20 temperature gradient.
This is roughly 10L LPG tank per day even without cooking and hot water.
And Webasto dual top can be mounted outside and free additional 70L of living space.
I will give you some exact usage data once we are on the road. Its all relative to how well the van is insulated as to how long the heater is running. Plus if we are cooking the heating will not be required either. We don't plan to spend too much time in the cold as winter camping is not very enjoyable. We will be on the Med by winter where its a bit more temperate.
Very Informative as always Greg, Thank you........"VanGuru" ;-)
Really appreciate your comment, thanks
Thank you so much for this video! I didn't even consider putting putting a heater in my van (I don't have the van yet).
I guess it depends where you plan to travel? What type of van are you looking for?
Greg Virgoe I'm not sure, I can't say right now. At the moment I'm gonna travel a bit more by car. I'll wait until you finished your video series, for even more inspiration for what's possible 🤔 Thank you again for this great channel!
Greg Virgoe Northern of Europe is on top of my list, so a heater may be a good idea 😀
Brilliant thanks so much
JimRYoung you are welcome 🙏🏼
Brilliant
Thanks for the great video. Here from the states and I there are no dealers here.
Hi Anneliese, I found the same with my roof fans and had to get them shipped from the states. Paid more with shipping and taxes but we wanted that particular fan.
I will ask Truma about USA dealerships. Thank you
I know you can insulate the area this will be contained in but do you know how many db's radiate. Thank you for the video's Greg, I've searched around on RUclips and this is the most informative I've found so far... Just brilliant.
Hello Tony, I do not have the data for dB rating.
Centrifugal fans are usually very quiet these days.
As long as you have adequate airflow and not restricted it should be quiet.
Greg, loved watchding your series on panel van conversion to an RV. I see you take great pride in your work. But I also absolutely love your detailed explanation of every thing you have built, installed or fitted, from how it works, how to install it, the handy hints on how to make it easier through to use of template's etc. While I don't know anything about the Truman, and have never used one, why you picked one makes absolute sense. But I have a question. Now the reason I raise this with you is I'm living in Australia, and it gets very hot here. Does this particular model of the Truman, have a way of venting the warm air outside the van during the summer months, when you only want to heat the water? Interested in your thoughts.
I plan on doing a van conversion, soon myself downunder, and your videos certainly are at the top of my list of how to videos, when I get started. Wish you all the very best with your travels around Europe.
Nice one Greg... I hope your keeping all the plans and blueprints as you go, because I would want you to mass produce these motor-homes and I will want to be your first customer!!!!!!!
Hello, I have got all the details. Looking into producing a self build guide. I can now appreciate why motorhomes cost so much. The labour alone is a lot of hours. I’m gonna need a holiday after this project. 😂
Well if you need any free labour I live near McLaren in Woking, Surrey....lol..
You should make a how to build your camper. pop up book Greg!
You are the Man 👍👍
Thank you 🙏🏼
Amazing
Thank you
Bugger... I just bought the Propex Malaga kit but am regretting it now! You've just sold the truma to me
As we’ve found the more you look around and do research the more options you discover. We were originally looking at separate units.
Great video as always! When will you do the installation?
Video will be out very soon 😀
Awsome Greg! ahve you filmed anything about the 240V connection? not sure where I should wire mine...
Hello Greg. Love the build series by the way. Glad that you got home safely. I have a Truma trumatic C Combi boiler in my sprinter conversion, the one with the grey circular dials. Can these dials be changed to more upto date digital controls like you have on your Combi 4E. Just thought I would ask as you might know what I'm asking.
Thank you
Hi Fiona Lambert, thanks for watching the channel. Hope you are well. Sadly the old style controls are mechanical and not digital. So they act like simple switches. The technology in the heater would not be there to plug in something more advanced. Sorry that’s not the news you wanted.
Take care 😊
this stuff is brilliant - i am about half way through and just fitting it all now! Quick one - do you need an expansion vessel for one of these truma that i bought on your very fine recommendation? Thanks for this stuff - invaluable
Hi Greg. Thanks for the wonderful videos. I have a thought. How do you think it would be to use one of the four outlets to blow hot air into several 30mm pipes in the floor as underfloor heating? For example, with XPS made for waterborne heat where the air comes out on the other side of the floor.
Greg, I've been binge watching your sprinter build videos. Love them! Do you have any advice for me in the US to purchase the equipment you use such as the water boiler. Or is there a way of getting the equipment shipped, if the company doesn't ship to the US. Thanks for your help! About to start building a ram promaster to be a mobile grooming unit and want to use your videos for the build. Again, love the videos and your attention to detail! :)
Toni Sherwood, I would contact the sales office in The UK and ask them direct, I'm sure they could put you in touch with a dealer in USA, if you get stuck please come back to me as I may be able to get advice from the top man 😃
Toni, remember the Truma runs on 240V and we have 110V in the US. I would first contact Truma in Germany to ask about this problem. You could also contact Winnebago that uses them in their RVs to ask how they resolve this issue. Once this big question is resolved, you can then hunt for a Combi. I contacted Truma but they do not sell the Combi direct to consumers, only the Truma Aquago hot water system. But the Combi is better. So you have to find out why Truma does not sell direct. Is it because it is a 240V and only the RV makers in US can wire it to step down to 240V safely with no liability, or is it because US RV makers want the monopoly and edge of having the Combi while you cannot buy it directly. I will crack it when I am ready.
For now, see my comment on top with a link to an Aussie dealer and ask them how to get it for you. But don't forget the 240V issue.
Hey Greg. Love the vid, thanks so much- truly helpful. One Q. For the Combi e models, Can they heat air, and/ or heat water on a 12v supply?
I looked at all your video. All excellent. Thank you. Do you have a video on shower installation? Paul from Quebec, Canada
To be released very soon Paul. Thanks
Great video can you tell if I can use the heater when the boiler is empty after I’ve drained the water for winter thanks Ray
Greg that was very comprehensive and well explained - (as usual) - thank you. I did not spot any form of filtration on the circulating air side of the system? Can you enlighten us on what factors you considered in making the choice between LPG and Diesel and what was the killer fact against diesel? I will watch the makers video now (I do like that LPG liquid sensor!). Many thanks.Edit - just watched the linked manufacturers video - I am calming down now I thought I was going to see full on shower action there - ye gods!
Don't expect the same sort of video from me once the system is up and running LOL
I've chatted to the misses and shes not game. LPG is a cleaner and greener fuel.
I was already installing a GASLOW refillable LPG tank for cooking so it was an easy option.
LOVE THE VIDEOS.
Can you heat the the water without heating the van up if in a hot country or in the summer
Of course! Its two separate functions in one package. Use one or the other or both.
As an update, there are more affordable versions of the Truma around now that run off diesel and/or electric - we bought ours from Bobil Vans and it's fantastic. After-sales is great too.
Mind blown...again
Thanks Van chan
Great video mate that must be truma top range looking at it the ones we used to fit where a lot smaller
Don't forget the camera adds 10lbs lol
It does look bigger in the video.
It's the Combi 4e, do you know any install tricks?
Greg Virgoe ye make sure it's in the right place before you cut the hole in the van don't ask me how I know that one lol
Hi Greg. Great video and great use of Sketchup too. Didn't you say in your video that you were to shoot a video of the Truma being installed? Have you done it yet? Can't find it and definitely need it as I am planning installing mine in the coming weeks or so! :)
Yes, we will be doing a detailed video of the installation very soon.
Very good, can I run the hot air heating independently when the water is drained off during the winter?
Hi. Thanks for this video. Would I be able to run a recirculating shower of a Truma 6E? Advice appreciated
Excellent videos, thank you very much for sharing. Just in the planning stage and you advice is invaluable. Am I missing something - 11 and a half k £? That's more than double the cost of my van :)
Hi Greg, great video thanks. Quick question - how does the the Truma wire into the 12v electrics? Can it go straight into a blade fuse in the box or does it need to go via a breaker? Also on the 240v side? Many thanks
Thanks Greg for another very informative video. Did all of that come in the basic kit together, or have you added the bluetooth and GSM parts?
The iNet Box and the Level Control are add-on parts to the standard boiler package.
Hey Greg !
Thanks again for a superb video
Could you explain why you went for a "e" model (230V/110V powering possibility) ?
Just when being on-shore power, is it that more economical in the long run ?
(being about 450€ more expensive, when bought, here in France)
AND
I guess we couldn't imagine it being powered by our van's battery ?
(obvious I guess..)
Blood hell just want I will need! I didn't know anything about this heater. 1,400 OUCH! Will look into it further when
Thanks
You’re welcome ☺️
Hi Greg, As everybody says, your videos are by far the best out there for both the way it is presented and the knowledge passed on. My question is why did you choose the 4E over the 2E or 6E, Thanks Greg
At the time the 4E was the smallest option available and given the choice now it would still be better for heating the water quicker. I think 6kw would be far too much
Hi Greg, great video. Question though: In one of your earlier videos is see you show a separate system (heater and boiler) i believer it was a Whale boiler and gas propex hs2000 heater. Advantage of this system IMO is that i can install both underfloor, which will save extra space. Another - i would consider as an - advantage would be that it are 2 separate systems, if one is broke, the other still works.... So, my question is, why did you choose for the Truma Combi system? (in comparison to 2 separate systems?). Thanks! Antoon - the Netherlands
nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Geoff, really appreciate your videos. They're so helpful. In your energy use audit video you say that you will not use the boiler unless you are on a hook up, due to the energy consumption. Does that make the boiler less important to your build or has your experience since being on the road make you just as glad that you included it?
Geoff?? The boiler is dual fuel so when off grid it runs on LPG. We only use the electric elements when on hook up because they consume more power.
@@GregVirgoe sorry Greg! Thanks for your reply.
Hi Greg. Do you still use CBE level gauge for your water tanks. Is there a way to connect water level gauges to the iNet?
Another great video Greg! I'm a little late to this party but I just stumbled unto Truma heaters via a friend. Can you recommend anyone in the UK that sells Truma combi heaters that may ship to the US? Thanks
