This is very true, but think of it from a different perspective. What is the cloud? A collection of resources that is not owned by you typically. What if you have your own cloud infrastructure at home running a VPN Terminator that you can connect to anywhere in the world. Now imagine you use a VPN on your smartphone to establish a connection to this cloud to monitor all your local devices / internet of things... :)
