A lot of people seemed upset, but I personally really liked this direct. And people hating on Skyward Sword mainly because of the controls have no excuse to try this one now. Skyward Sword has an amazing story.
BOTW was in development for 6 years. They only made Wind Waker HD because they where testing a possible lighting engine for BOTW. So if BOTW 2 comes out this year it would be half the time and of course next year wouldn't make it the longest Zelda in development. It would actually still be less than Skyward Sword, which took 5 years.
If it's not story related, I don't see why BotW 2 couldn't release in between both expansions and the second expansion could be BotW 2 related content. That said, I don't expect the game this year either tbh.
Something I just realized is that the company (Natural Motion) making Star Wars Hunters made the animation/physics engine that ended up in SW: The Force Unleashed and is integrated in Rockstar's RAGE engine they use for GTA, Red Dead, Max Payne 3. They also made Backbreaker. Wonder how that's gonna run on Switch (if they use Euphoria at all in this title).
Yeah I agree, we live in a world where we have seen first hand games with not enough time in development suffered in the final product, but when it comes to a direct it seems all of that is forgotten and somehow it's disappointing when we don't hear about a game that never had a release window or date when it was first teased? Wind Waker lost dungeons because they didn't take those extra years and while still a good game it's unevenly paced. I thought it was upfront and transparent of Nintendo to at least acknowledge BotW 2 and explain that we will see more information later this year.
The biggest surprise for me was SaGa Frontier Remastered. When Octopath Traveler was first announced, I remember thinking of it like something of a successor to SaGa Frotntier, perhaps more fleshed out than what SF managed to accomplish in its choppy development.. The fact that they're adding a lot of the cut content into the remaster has me doubly intrigued. Maybe we'll *FINALLY* be able to 'Draw a Sacred Lot.'
That seems to be the common consensus on Knockout City's odd little campaign here. Actually, it made Princess Charm into something of a breakout character.
Are these types of tactics games basically as close as any platform gets to a fantasy xcom? I've been holding out hope since XCOM's success in 2012 but it's not looking great. These types of games are fine, fire emblem is fiiine enough but I love so much the verticality of xcom levels, getting up on a ledge and firing down, destroying a wall, laying out perfect cover fire etc etc. There's been like 4 pretty heavy xcom clones but nobody wants to do it with bows and magic uwu
have you tried Code Name STEAM on the 3DS? it's steam punk instead of medieval fantasy, but i believe it's the closest thing to xcom. this game seems to be a lot more like Tactics Ogre though. but they're all variants of the same genre, tactical RPGs.

Really enjoyed watching the reactions with the whole crew. Interested in Triangle Tactics, not sure if I play Mario Golg before but this new one looks fun. Would love a Mario mini golf game. Monster Hunter Rise is good and I'm ready for it. Really want that Hades art book, but I don't like rebuying games so hopefully it is also sold separately, Darkhorse Comics maybe. Same for Skyward Sword not sure I want to pay for it. I'll have to plug in the original to refresh my memory. Those Zelda Joycons are cool but not necessary for me, like can I get a sticker which will work just as well. BotW2 I'm guessing is 2022, no Switch pro ever, hoping for dlc for Mario Kart like tracks.
Because this is a random February direct, they will save the trailer for a bigger event like E3 direct. Though Damiani is crazy with his release estimates, BOTW2 is clearly a 2022 game.
A lot of the best PC apex players play with a low fidelity. It not only helps frame rate but makes it easier to discern the characters from the terrain. So 60fps is all that matters
The Age of Calamity DLC announcement being off was pretty obvious to me. They are avoiding spoilers. Some people are still very touchy about spoilers for this game and they can't just outright detail who and what is being added without spoiling things. It's kinda dumb, but it's obvious that's what it is.

No other company gets so easily the pass on remastering 10-20 year-old games and charging full price for them, while giving the least amount of effort. Just another cash grab. Watch how this will sell millions easily, like 3D all stars did.
What's even funnier is how the people who defend it, are the same ones that bash other companies that have a better history of remastering games and pricing.

17:00 this has nothing to do with Sakurai. Mythra has a special Core Chip called Massive Melee Mythra. This not only gives her an additional crit chance, but it also changes her appearance, which is what she looks like here in the trailer with the leggings
it *was* a censorship thing for the sake of smash though. her spirit in smash has had the leggings from the beginning. (Massive Melee is a very punny name)
@@Omnirok12 How do you explain Pyra then? Her appearance has nothing to do with censorship. Massive Melee Mythra core chip is literally an item in XC2, and has no correlation to Smash Bros
@@hiotsobo i know its an item. i played the game. **but it wasnt there at launch**. it was gifted to all players when smash ultimate came out on december 2018 - almost exactly year after xenoblade 2's release. and lo and behold, mythra in smash (as a spirit on LAUNCH) had that outfit. they also similarly censored camilla (from fire emblem) on launch, by covering her bust in black fabric. mythra's massive melee outfit covers up her bust and legs. they just had to censor her to put her in smash, and they figured they may as well put that costume in the actual game. my point here is: there's a precedent. and the name Massive Melee is obviously a pun on smash bros- do i really need to explain that one? like, i'm seriously not complaining because i dont really care, massive melee mythra looks great. but pretending it was unrelated to smash is not it.
They REALLLLY thought that motion controls could possibly be the only way they were giving us to play Skyward Sword. What switch game has Nintendo EVER done that for? I cant.

So if BOTW 2 comes out this year it would be half the time and of course next year wouldn't make it the longest Zelda in development. It would actually still be less than Skyward Sword, which took 5 years.
With hyrule warriors expansion coming in November, its telling me botw 2 won't release this year.they want u to play the expansion before botw 2
If it's not story related, I don't see why BotW 2 couldn't release in between both expansions and the second expansion could be BotW 2 related content. That said, I don't expect the game this year either tbh.
The Allies are such a breath of fresh air! They are optimistic without being disingenuous.
Optimistic without being disingenuous. That's exactly right.
God you guys make me love video games sometimes, you know that?
I’m so hyped for that Tactics game!!
Damiani got pretty salty at the end there about BoTW 2 not being shown
Which is odd because BOTW took 5 years to churn out. Give the game as long as it takes.
For some reason Damiani keeps running with this headcanon that the game is coming out sooner than Nintendo has ever implied.
@@MurdyPlops Exactly, it has been three years since development for BOTW 2 and for some reason he called it the longest Zelda has been in development
Ian theyre not gonna shadow drop a REAL game. How often does it need to be said. Skyward Sword would never be a shadow drop.
Let the man dream.
I’m excited for NMH3, Skyward Sword HD and Mario Golf but I am seriously concerned about Bayonetta 3 at this point. What is going on over there?!
Did you not watch the Friend Code 2020 recap? The man said development is going smoothly! 😅
Ben gets a new main every smash trailer lol
The biggest surprise for me was SaGa Frontier Remastered. When Octopath Traveler was first announced, I remember thinking of it like something of a successor to SaGa Frotntier, perhaps more fleshed out than what SF managed to accomplish in its choppy development.. The fact that they're adding a lot of the cut content into the remaster has me doubly intrigued. Maybe we'll *FINALLY* be able to 'Draw a Sacred Lot.'
Project Triangle looks really cool. Finally a FF Tactics type of game.
Guggenheim exists.
So pass
Or Tactics Ogre.
Project Triangle Strategy and the Legend of Mana Remastered were my favourite announcements.
I prefer Pyra's smash costume. Still has its sexiness appeal but it conceals a bit more without really changing much of the design's impression.
I miss Donkey Kong :/
Shinchan's summer vacation is hype. from Japan
As of now Valkyria Chronicles are probably as close as it gets.
@@TotemoGaijin Haven't tried 4 or whatever the next big one after the first is, would you recommend?
@@vitordecarvalho wow this looks right up the alley I'm looking for thanks for the reply.
Do 3ds titles come to switch/pc ever or are they kinda locked on that platform because of the dual screens?
@@ChichiNaka Personally I don't think the story in 4 is quite as engaging as the first game, but the game itself is great, especially if you're looking to get your fix.
The Square Enix direct. Which I'm all for.
The worlds end club was my favorite thing in the direct
For the smash reveal, did you guys not get the memo of the slight censoring of the characters from when smash ultimate was first released or did you just forget
censored what?
@@ChichiNaka They had Mythra with those leggings since they first added her as a spirit when they first released this game s couple years back. And apart from that, her dress originally had her chest semi revealed
@@elijahbryant8654 Thanks, I'm entirely unaware of anything smash related other than 2 minute trailers every few months
I think one thing people are forgetting oddly is that there is a pandemic on.. They even made it clear at the start..
I still have the original version of Skyward Sword and it’s still in the seal, I held off playing for so long the Switch version is announced.
That happens too often now with so many games in backlogs.
I have skyrim like that for Xbox360
Assassins creed 2 for Xbox360
Eternal Sonata xbox 360
God of war ascension Xbox360
And the list goes on.
This generation is gonna be the same. So many new games that I have that'll probably be in plastic forever .
I do have Skyward sword for Wii but I played a little of that back then. Not a lot so besides the slow intro ther rest will be new.
Just not looking forward to that intro.
Like the slow Kingdom heart Intros.
A DRAG
Sakurai put Pyra and Mythra in there just for Moore LMAO
Not gonna lie, i was disappointed when Smash came out and there was basically zero Xenoblade 2 representation. (Sakurai explained why but the lack of music tracks too was not great). Now this makes perfect sense.
seems some of them need to go back and remind themselves what a REVEAL trailer is... lol
Huber grades on a curve lol
It'll probably end up being called Triangle Tactics, if I had to make a guess.
Ninja Gaiden yeah!
Oh, it’s Sigma, never mind. Less feature and mechanics
she has that leggins as a outfit ingame. when you equip one of b her costume cores to her.
Hyped on a new Mario Golf, but I'm desperate for a new Strikers game
Ben looks like Norman Reedus
*{the silent pauses after the direct}* Lol!
sakurai san: smash is for good boys and girls so mai can't join
mai: ok understandable...
pyra and mythra: *enters chat*
mai: what the hell!?
If they are doing g a 35 Zelda anniversary direct, why show skyward sword here?why no botw 2 trailer?I know they have enough footage to show something
Are there keyboard/mouse type inputs for switches like you could do for consoles in the past?
I have always wanted Rex and Pyra in smash, and I am still glad with the results. At least he is part of her final smash and taunts.
And I AM SO HYPED FOR MIITOPIA!!! Hopefully this will increase the chances of a sequel.
The Age of Calamity DLC announcement being off was pretty obvious to me. They are avoiding spoilers. Some people are still very touchy about spoilers for this game and they can't just outright detail who and what is being added without spoiling things. It's kinda dumb, but it's obvious that's what it is.
What about Left Handed Zelda players?
im bummed out and surprised, bravely default games from 3ds arent getting a port. never finished the first game and didn't even buy bravely second. the 3ds (XL) wasn't that comfortable to play on for hours on end. Those games deserves better.
Project Triangle Strat is my absolute jam! So hyped for that, Mario Golf, the Ninja Geidon collection, Legend of Mana Skyward Sword and so many others. I really enjoyed this Direct!
I love how everyone sees Eiji and gets mad because he’s honest about the Zelda sequel. It’s not his fault lol
I like Ben's 17 year old in 2006 style haircut
Excited for Homura/Hikari, NMH3 and Splatoon 3. I’ve always despised Skyward Sword. That is a hard pass. Still sad there’s no new info on SMT V
I don’t know anything about the censorship part but Ninja Gaiden, the Sigma versions effectively removed mechanics and items, gear healing all that stuff they also just don’t feel as good to play as NinjaGaiden Black and 2.
Kinda surprised that Ian isn’t a splatoon fan
None of them really ever got hooked on it. Probably the closest was Blood. Even though Splatoon is gaming cocaine imo.
I was disappointed at first, but then I realized the bright side: think of all the money and time I'll save not playing Nintendo games the first half of this year!
Lmao. What about Monster Hunter or Bravely Default. I guess not interested
@@obba40 I'm happy for the people that play those games! Just not for me.
I’m glad it”s not Rex to be honest at least the girls look less childlike, character designs don’t look good but they at least look cooler than Rex.
Pass? No lol. I see more people complain than anything
@@obba40 Not enough people complain though. People complained about 3d all stars. It still sold around 10 mil. People complained about Pokémon sword and shield (not a remaster, but still a low effort game), still sold 20 mil. They barely even try dude...
@@intokanto that shows that the internet is a small factor. Other people might not mind. Dont think just because you are all day crying on the internet that you are in majority. What you see as problems other people might not. Dont assume everyones opinions are the same
Cry me a river lol... no one forces you to buy them. People complain just as much and people complain that prices rarely drop on their games. Thing is why would they drop the price like others have to when an old game like botw/MK still sells in top charts every year. It’s business. Sony wouldn’t drop prices either if they had evergreen franchises like that.
I didn’t buy Mario 3D all stars because not worth it to me but I’m not gonna whine or flame someone if they think it’s worth it. Lmao
I hope skyward sword will speed up text
Dont forget me, dont forget me, dont forget me, dont forget me
"Octopath Tactics", or project triangle whatever, is by far the one I'm most excited about.
Skyward Sword can go eat a back of dicks, would have been better to just port the Wii U Zelda remasters (WW and TP).
Ian on dumb for viewing Splatoon 3 an underwhelming way to end the direct. Like bro, no one expected there to be a new mainline entry for the switch any time soon.
For the first Nintendo Direct in almost a year and a half and with very few big announcements during the show, yeah it was underwhelming.
@@MagmAlex no one promised anything. We had directs i between. Your problem if you dont count them
@@obba40 Yeah, I barely follow switch news and I feel like theres some form of nintendo direct every few weeks
@@ChichiNaka no
@@MagmAlex A year and a half? What are you talking about, there are Directs every few months. They said they would focus on games coming in early 2021, so I am positively surprised they showed so many 2022 games as well
44:15-44:17 same genre
I hope Project Triangle comes to Playstation at some point, but it's probably extremely unlikely. Nintendo is usually very protective of their exclusivity deals.
Pc
@@obba40 Yeah, a Pc release is possible I guess, I think Octopath Traveler got a Pc release eventually. I don't really game on Pc either though... Having backlog on 1 platform is enough for me :). This game does look really interesting as FFT is one of my favorite games ever.
I was prob most interested in World's End Club regarding new games we haven't already heard about or remasters, and being from the Zero/Danganronpa devs. Maybe Neon White, but card battle systems have flustered before (KH- Re C.o.M.)
Idk about Skyward Sword, it's the only modern Zelda I never bothered buying, but is it looking as good as the Allies are saying for full $$, or is it nostalgia? It's no Link's Awakening type graphical reimagination..
Bayo 3, SMT V, & Metroid 4 for 2nd half of the year please...
That's tara strong voice
Yup, she voices Batgirl in the TV series.
I cant.
It's really annoying when these reactions videos have any more than three people. It's just people talking over each other and you miss so much in the presentation.
Knockout City looked like it was trying to be Wreck-It Ralph overlayed onto a totally different game. Pointless and expensive.
This was also the first Splatoon trailer that made me think "oh I've got to buy it this time"
also, there is no less rewarding franchise to love than Metroid.
Triangle looks fun and pretty but, based on the demo, the writing seems to be crap
Just play Isiah Traveler or firemen.
This seems redundant
Why does everyone speak about Switch Pro with such excitement when barely anyone can get a PS5 or new Xbox?
Splatoon 3 not the best final announcement but the trailer was very cool, loved the progressive drumming in the city which gave it a curious tone.
