I never realized that Steve Austin was such a great wrestler until I got one of his DVDs and watched all of his wrestling matches in one day so fukin good before his accident he could go
Part of the thing too though, technical wrestling didn't fit the stone cold character. He was ass kicking beer drinking brawling redneck. If he was sitting there doing chain wrestling holds that wouldn't really fit the character.
I had it taped. It was annoying when they started showing it on Saturday afternoons and showed the then current product instead. The 3am stuff was great as it was from 1989.
He still is in my opinion, and probably the opinion of many wrestlers such as Bret Hart, but I take your point that the majority of fans don't see him as that. The Stone Cold character was his biggest gimmick but it sorta covered up his previous reputation as a phenomenal technician, for better or worse
being the echelon of technical wrestlers will always be Brett Hart, Kurt Angle and Brock Lesner. Brett Hart is a 2nd generational wrestler and did wrestling through school and in college and could of gone pro, of course we all know Kurt Angle winning a gold medal for wrestling and same as brock Lesnar was a demon in high school and college than won the UFC later in his life... Steve Austin did none of things he played college football and has no experience in wrestling or competitive wrestling sparring behind him. WWF/E and real life wrestling is a different animal. its like saying Steven Seagal is on the same Caliber as Bruce Lee, not saying Steve Austin is Steven Seagal its just an example reference. there is even a video where a fan or reporter asked kurt angle his opinion on his thoughts of wrestlers at that time and era if they could meet those levels of real wrestling and his instant response was no shaking his head smirking.
It was easier watching WCW in the UK as it was on free tv not SKY. They would show it on Saturday afternoons in 1992. When they started showing it tho it was on at daft o clock in a morning depending on region. It was from 1989 at first as well.
I really miss those early-90s WCW days of Stunning Steve Austin, or Cactus 🌵 Jack, or Big Van Vader, or the surfer 🏄♂️ 🌊 version of Sting, or Ravishing Rick Rude, or Flyin Brian Pillman, or the Z-Man Tom Zenk, or Ricky the Dragon 🐉 Steamboat, or Ron Simmons, or Sid Vicious, or alot of others etc. But unfortunately, those days are long gone in the hourglass ⌛️ of time. 😢
And the Thing was a Lot of the FUTURE WWE stars Legends and even some Icons were in old school WCW,you had the future, Goldust,Stone Cold Steve Austin, HHH (as Terra Rysing) William Regal(as Steven Regal)Marc Mero(as Johnny be Badd) Road Dogg Jesse James(as Brian Armstrong) and Edge (as jobber Sexton Hardcastle on WCW Pro)
What Dustin fails to mention is that stone cold only did two or three moves because that’s what he was capable of doing after the neck injury given to him by Owen Hart
Who did WCW fumble the most?
Let us know what you think!

I used to watch NWA on ITV in the early 90's at 3 in the morning. Nobody else seems to remember this.

If Steve hadn't got his neck broke, I genuinely think he'd be in the upper echelon of technical wrestlers

@@Old-Boy_BEbop you wrote all that and missed the point. We aren't talking amateur wrestling or mma. We are talking technical wrestling

Dustin Rhodes is positively one of the greatest in ring talents . Really his out ring kind of ruined his pushes .glad to see him doing way better .
