Kuih lapis. Layered Kuih. It’s steam layer by layer. Ingredients consist of both tapioca and rice flours and coconut milk with various other ingredients
Welcome to Malacca or Melaka in Malay. The kuih (desert) in pink and white is what I believe to be 'kuih lapis'. Its made of rice flour, rose syrup and pandan/vanilla flavouring.
Another production of an astounding performance and narration. I am left unblinking by the captivating story while digesting the imaginative side of past and present. Kudos to both of you once more for making Melaka such a temptation to the eyes, historical wise and food sensation along your journey.
That A’famosa fort was made from the tombstones of previous sultans and masjids that the Portuguese destroyed. When the portuguese first came..they were considered to be the first “orang putih” (white men) that arrived in the Malay archipelago. Initially they were welcomed as guests as potential traders just as how the Malays at that time had welcomed the Indian, Chinese, Arab and persian traders. However, the Portuguese had shown disrespect to the Sultans and the Malay culture and religious culture as well - Malays at that time are not to well aware about the crusade war going on in west asia part and europe and the clash of civilisations . And later the intention was made clear by the Portuguese that they were here not to trade but to colonise. Portuguese play a very significant role in our culture as they also influence language (we have a lot of borrowed words from portuguese). We also have traces of the portuguese-Malay descendents. They are basically one of the earliest Christian communities established in the country. This also give rise to the unique blend between east and west. Enjoy Malaysia guys!

Instead of Selamat Pagi, Selamat Tengahari, Selamat Petang & Selamat Malam, you can use Salam Sejahtera all day at any time although it's not widely use like the usual greetings above but it's much more convenient & have much more deeper meanings & close to one's heart. Literally translate Salam is Greetings in Malay & Peace in Arabic & Sejahtera is Prosper. Simply put together it means Wishing You Peace & Prosperity. We usually use it to the non Muslim or if you're not sure he/she/they is a Muslim/ are Muslims or not. Salam in Malay also means shake hands or act of shaking hands as a greeting.

When islam came to the country most of the really old mosque had a pagoda like architecture because before Islam there was a Buddhist hindu culture. Later during colonial rule it had a more of mughal structure strong influences from British India. Nowadays its mostly middle eastern inspired Turkish large domes like the Aya Sofia or Iranian with huge portals. The first dessert is Kuih lapis (layered coconut rice cake) . The yellow one is Kuih Bingka (made from Cassava) or corn bread but the chewiness makes me think of Kuih Bingka and the last one is Aneka cake (variety cake) could be almost any mixture of various different cakes in one cake. Since you like those dessert try Kuih Talam or Kuih Seri muka both pandan and gula melaka (brown palm sugar) variety they are similar yet different.
Actually it was influenced by the Indian Muslims and Chinese Muslims traders, with a little bit of Arab trader's influences. Buddhist or Hindus architecture had no influence on Islamic architecture other than their own respective temples. Malay architecture still surpassed others as seen by the design of the Sultanate castle where there's no influence whatsoever from Buddhist or Hindu temples. There weren't any Hindus/Buddhist ancient temples sites like the one in Bali or Angkor Watt, let alone all over Malaysia. In fact the ingenious people of Malaysia are still pagans and not Hindus. The only ancient Hindus/Buddhist site was probably in Kedah Tua but the Islamic influence already reached the east coast of Tanah Melayu, with ancient Batu Bersurat Terenvgganu as evidence.
The Dutch square buildings were originally all white. When the British took over they painted it all red. It stayed red until now and the old clock tower still works.
Thank you for sharing this interesting historical detail about the Dutch square buildings! It's fascinating to learn about the different cultural influences and changes that have shaped Malaysia's heritage. The red buildings definitely add a unique charm to the area and it's wonderful to see that the old clock tower still functions after all these years. Thank you for watching our videos and joining us on our journey to explore and appreciate Malaysia's rich history and culture! 🤲🏻 🇲🇾 😊
The fallen of the great muslims empire of the melaka sultanate in the portugis hands was a very sad and at the same time proud because melaka being the one that being attacks because we defended the mecca. Fyi the portugis early plan was to invade mecca but instead they went to melaka

Fyi... The ruins of St. Paul's Church were originally the site of the Malay Sultanate Palace and the Malacca Great Mosque, since Portuguese came to melaka to take gold, and bring glory and gospel, thats why they destroy everything monumen about islam in melaka in 15s.. Thats why most local malays dont go to this place.
Thank you for sharing this historical insight with us. It's important to acknowledge the complex history of Melaka and its significance to different cultures and religions. The ruins of St. Paul's Church are a reminder of the Portuguese occupation and their attempts to spread their influence through religion and conquest. We understand that this may be a sensitive topic for some members of the local community, and we always strive to be respectful and mindful of different perspectives. We appreciate your engagement and hope to continue learning and sharing more about the diverse history and culture of Malaysia. Thank you for being a part of our journey. 🤲🏻 🇲🇾 ❤️

Hello, I have a question if you don't mind. I've been thinking of living in Malaysia for quite awhile...did you guys apply for the Malaysia My second home thing or just living on work visa? Since you said in the first video that you are renting the apartment, I guess you guys didn't put down the money for getting citizenship? Not sure about the process....thanks
Assalamualaikum! Thank you for your question. We have applied for a De Rantau Visa, which is a digital nomad visa from MDEC. It allows us to live and work remotely in Malaysia for a year, which can then be renewed for another year. After this we may look at applying for the Malaysia My Second Home program (MM2H) which has recently introduced a 3 tiered system. The process for MM2H can be quite complicated, but it's a great option for those wanting to live long-term in Malaysia. We hope this information helps, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions. Thank you for watching our videos and being a part of our journey! 🤲🏻 🇲🇾 😊
@@OurJourneyToSuccess Walaikumusalam. Thanks. I figured you guys did the Digital Nomad option when you said you had a 2-year rental contract for the apartment. Just not sure if they will allow me to bring my parents with me as "dependents" but I will look into it. The MM2H option is not feasible for my parents anymore since they are retired and can't show an income of $8000USD+ Monthly. I guess Malaysia doesn't want retired people that will be living conservatively. They want either wealthy retired people, expats or young nomads. A bit contradictory since they also want to see $500k USD in liquid assets for MM2H. Being in Canada, that $8000USD is more like $11000 CAD lol. Other plan is to just buy property in China, live there and hop over to Malaysia for 90 days whenever you want. Mom wants to live in Dubai but I showed her your other video and told her "look, they lived in Dubai but chose to move to Malaysia" she just looked at me with a sour face haha. Anyways, will be following your journey. stay safe and congratz on the baby, MashAllah he's very cute
@@OurJourneyToSuccess There's plenty to explore, but why not start with something closer to KL first, haha! Consider visiting Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan (or PD, as locals call it). It's a beach destination, though the water might not be crystal blue, it's perfect for a family hangout. You can even make it a day trip from KL if you prefer not to stay overnight. However, if you fancy a stay, check out Avilion Port Dickson; their hotel rooms are right on the water. On your way to or from PD, don't miss the opportunity to stop by Masjid Sri Sendayan. It's arguably one of the most beautiful mosques in Malaysia (or maybe the most at least to me), with a resemblance to the Taj Mahal from the outside. I never see international tourists there; it's mostly local tourists. Not many are aware of this mosque, and tourists typically stick to visiting mosques in KL which is understandable.

Oh nice tip! Salam Sejahteta! Terima Kasih Banyak ❤️🇲🇾
Please try to do more vlogs in Turkey Saudi Arabia indonesia Morocco Tunisia Libya Burnia all middle Asias countries
These country have so much to offer and have endless beauties
Good luck
Our focus for now is really on Malaysia and the surrounding region. But Insha'Allah eventually we want to cover all the Muslim world. 🤲🏼🇲🇾
Do come to Kelantan
Nice video❤
Thank you brother 🇲🇾❤️
The Dutch square buildings were originally all white. When the British took over they painted it all red. It stayed red until now and the old clock tower still works.
Thank you for sharing this interesting historical detail about the Dutch square buildings! It's fascinating to learn about the different cultural influences and changes that have shaped Malaysia's heritage. The red buildings definitely add a unique charm to the area and it's wonderful to see that the old clock tower still functions after all these years. Thank you for watching our videos and joining us on our journey to explore and appreciate Malaysia's rich history and culture! 🤲🏻 🇲🇾 😊

Inspiring! Do you think you can give me some advice on how to invest in a healthy way as you are doing?
Since meeting Expert Janet, I now agree that
with an expert managing your portfolio, the
rate of profit is high, with less risk.
I'm surprised that this name is being mentioned here, I stumbled upon one of his clients testimony on CNBC news last week.
You Don't ' Need To be surprised because I'm also a huge beneficiary

Walakumsalaam. We are definitely try to give both aspects and are improving with each episode. Thanks for the feedback and support! 🇲🇾❤️
You finally got a car :D
Haha! Alhamdulillah. Malaysia is so much more fun to explore in a car! Any hidden gems you would recommend for us? 🇲🇾💯
@@OurJourneyToSuccess
There's plenty to explore, but why not start with something closer to KL first, haha!
Beautiful intro great script better than NatGeo😊
