@@jessecox Thanks for the video, it was fantastic!
Love you Jessup🧡🧡🧡
WoW's story in vanilla (now known as Classic) is basically that the Horde and Alliance are at war... but doesn't really get more specific than that. Even its high-end raids are just dealing with problems that cropped up (Fire Lord Ragnaros, Black Dragonflight, the Zandalari Trolls, the undead Scourge invading, etc...). The only one that really has any lore behind it is the black dragon Onyxia, who has managed to get herself appointed regent of Stormblood on behalf of Prince Anduin Wrynn whose father Varian is missing.
Actually, the whole "missing king" thing is its own problem. During vanilla WoW, they added a quest line in patches for alliance players where you could search for the missing king who was apparently kidnapped... but they stopped doing development on this questline, so it just randomly ends. King Variant Wrynn shows up randomly at the start of the second expansion Wrath of the Lich King with this whole off-screen story.
WoW's lore doesn't seem to be planned more than one expansion at a time. They've also pulled the "Horde leader turns evil" thing twice now, to the point where they had to have the existing leader either leave or be killed off to do it.
Another point on the Primals vs. ETC is that the Primals are so prioritized by the company and the fans that they actually have professionally made music videos. I don't recall ETC having anything like that beyond I think a machinima made with their in-game characters. Highly recommend checking out the Primals' music videos. They are amazing. There's also some music videos for just Keiko (their primary pianist) and Amanda Achen (Soken's favourite singer who sang tracks in ShB, EW, and DawnTrail).
@@DameonStarflame Sounds great, we will have to give it a look, thanks!
@@Jrocks26 The music videos are on the official FFXIV RUclips page, and there's behind the scenes videos on one of the Square-Enix channels as well, if that sort of thing interests you as well!
@@DameonStarflame Oh awesome, thanks for the info!
I love Jesse 🧡🧡🧡 He has a lot of great videos to react to though some have spoilers for where you are.
His lore videos are top notch!!
I love watching creators react to this video and hearing their input
also regarding the "relic grind" you did you are not doing the actual grind all old relics have had the grinds drastically reduced bth more than half hell the ARR relics take like 10% if not less the amount of time they originally took to get I had to do over 100 fates for one item drop out of 10 for just a single step I did over 40 Arum Vale runs back when the dungeon was a literal nightmare and now its a gauranteed drop, this is excluding endwalker where they didnt make them a grind to begin with.
My god it felt awful
I admit that the ARR Relic was nerfed but not by a Large margin. Only the Fate Step was nerfed drastically the 9 Stonetablets which are way more grindy are the same as back then. You could say it was nerfed passively since now you can Server hop and look for specific Fates on differend Servers but Overall the ARR Relic Grind is more or less the same. Nothing compared to the HW Relic where the Grind is almost completely gone since now you can buy like 90% of the Materials with poetics.
@@DantoriusD the dungeon drops are guarantee now and previously the grind for them was crazy long with almost everyone having a nightmare dungeon of atleast 30 runs and the fate grind as you put it is just part of the fate grind as the book stage literally had fates that would not spawn for DAYS literal days and if they did spawn you had to hope you where online or oh well time to wait even longer, the light stages of ARR are also about 4x faster now aswell. Now you can complete a ARR relic in less than 10 hours and I think I am exagerating at 10 hours even but back then it was a east 50hour grind for a lucky player and up to 80 for the average player.
The HW relics where purely poetic grind which yea took awhile but also if you played the game at all you should have easily did 6 or 7 that expansion passively which is a joke to call a grind.
I always think this is in FF14's favor though. Most of the horrible grinds people hated at launch (Zodiac weapons, Eureka) have been significantly tweaked to consume less of your time. It helps the game maintain its respect for your time feel
@@eroschama the reason its tweaked is just because the weapons are only glam but that was never the point of my original post it was regards to him saying the grind was a joke and in all reality he didnt do a grind which was my point.
This video is quite a bit outdated being 2 expansions old at this point and missing a whole pvp rework. Still a great video but I don't think it reflects FFXIV in its current state anymore.
I miss the Wrathgate and Battle for Undercity
Quests in everquest? You _might_ get some copper armor or class specific stuff like Darkforge Armor in your 30's, but outside of meeting your class skill seller there was a 500 hour gap between that and your epic weapon quest, heh. :p
To be fair those relic grinds are much easier today than they used to be I remember doing the zodiac relic and having to grind the atma by doing fates in each zone and I spent 7 months waiting for one to drop that never did so I never finished one relic
Would love to check out ur shadowbringer playthrough
We will be live streaming it here :www.twitch.tv/jrocks26

i have played ff14 since 2.0 (10+ years) and stopped playing wow at the start of bfa because it fried my computer
Sorry for the long response.
Lol, I also stopped at BfA because my computer broke, it was a family comupter so I don't know if that was the reason it stopped working or if there was some internal issue. I don't think I could ever go back to WoW though, I just don't feel the same drive to play it like I used to.
As for FF, I played the trial during 2.0, but started really playing it during 6.2 when I started feeling an urge to play a tab-target mmo that wasn't WoW. Still play it here and there, between other games.
Still playing plot catch-up, need to do the Eden raids, and then I'll be moving on to Endwalker.
I hope you guys continue to enjoy FFXIV. Both WoW and FFXIV are two of my favorite games and there really isn't many like them. I loved Wildstar but they did not allow the player base to create private servers and it died.
A decade into FFXIV and I see constant love and improvement put into it by the devs. Even though Dawntrail's story wasn't amazing comparatively it was still a lot of fun. The new raid series is one of my favorites easily. If you love video games you're just missing out hard not playing FFXIV and catching up right now. I genuinely hope the Worldsoul Saga can reinvigorate WoW for the next 3 expansions as well. I love the WoW lore but it's just incredibly convoluted and the wow devs a hard time making players to even want to understand it.
Thanks! We have been really loving it
Can you explain to me why a fast gcd is preferable?
Is this purely a "GO GO GO" mindset that governs this opinion? Or is it something more complex?
I've always found the slower GCD more approachable, and anything but a turn off, for my slower reflexes.
Can't speak for the WOW side but for FFXIV...
I'd guess it's more preferable from a raiding standpoint. The faster the GCDs, the more damage you can output. The more damage you output, the faster you get through the fight, which includes skipping some attacks or outright phases entirely.
Which *can* be helpful for things like mount farming or savage/ultimate fights where you're basically repeating the same fight over and over 10+ times in a row. So it's "GO GO GO" with a dash of reason.
But generally speaking? Same here, I prefer the slower GCDs too. It's less overwhelming visually.
To have less of a chance of downtime, always be casting
42:04 This made me uninstall twice. Currently trying ARR for the third time leveling three dps jobs at the same time
@@jduchiha4656 Yeah us as well! This is our 4th time here. It does actually get really good once you get through ARR, but it does get good in ways that are different than other MMOs: amazing story, music, combat animations etc...
Played wow since warcraft was a base building game. Played final fantasy since 3 on nes. Wow takes cinematic ffxiv takes story
Heh - if XIV adopted the FFXI model - you’d have people raging hardcore right now lol
Base FFXI, sure. But by the time ARR first came out, FFXI had changed so much that the team learned from their mistakes.
FFXIV had/has some grinds. The ARR relics, btw nerfed by now, were a real grind. I knew people who spent weeks on just one zone for drops in ARR relic. Eureka and Bozja re grinds.
FFXIV also ruined raiding for me in WoW. I dont want to spend 5-6 hrs only to clear a raid spot. The first raid of Shadowlands prime example. Did 5 hrs and still had half the bosses to still kill. On a good clear night in FFXIV, you have all 4 bosses down within 2 hrs. The drops to get BiS easier to get in 14, vs WoW. You can get BiS in FFXIV if you clear shit quick enough in like 8 weeks, where in WoW you might not see you drop........well...ever. Add in for 14 raids, i dont need to download like 8 million addons to do the raid, just me myself and I to clear a 14 raid.
FFXIV is actually very similar to SWTOR in a lot of ways
I also never truely understood how wow players can complain about the arr experience to get trough when back when I played wow you had a entire lvling experience that really had nothing good in it the world was cool sure but there was no story the lvling was horridly slow and boring with just as many fetch quests around as ARR(if not more) and above all the community was not friendly in the least(:at least for me) I had more runs ins with elitist, asshole and people full on griefing starter areas by killing quest npcs on respawn so you could not even progress story.
True to a point. ARR came 8, 9 Years after Vanilla WoW, i think? So in a time were Cataclysm was live, which changed WoW a fair bit. But yeah, the Grind in WoW is FAR worse. And boring. The community is mostly a toxic shithole ( this is also my experience ). But these games are very different in many cases - so its no problem when a grindy WoW Player, who gives a F*k to a good story, wont like FF14.
how is ffxiv a old school jrpg? its not turn based and thsts kinda what old school jrpg combat was. also i would disagree that wow is the best at endgame, as yes they do provide alot to do but it also makes it as a job and you have to be the best of the best to see the higher tier content. Whereas FFXIV offers the same content, and alot of endgame content but you can also see all the content depending and if you wanted you can do a harder difficulty for bragging rights but you wont miss out on anything for doing it on easier more manageable tiers.
