    My man bought a very clearly labeled 3 season cool weather jacket and tried to wear it in the summer. I really don’t understand what you thought was going to happen. Even with those vents wide open it’s not going to vent well enough in 100+ degrees. Especially in a humid climate like the American gulf coast.

    • @syntarx
      @syntarx 7 месяцев назад

      I thought the exact same thing. Why would you wear a waterproof shell in dry, >100°F. Why not a jersey? With this system your supposed to wear the protection on your body anyways.

    I’m contemplating this jacket for adventure riding in the New England area. I’m in between the Basilisk and a Klim Carlsbad. We’re you riding with the lapels open and snapped back? At the temps you were riding wouldn’t just a jersey over your pads be adequate or mesh? I have a mesh Armour jacket I use in the summer that works great in the 90s and a thin rain jacket that slips over everything if needed. Mosko is supposed to be releasing a light weight in Armour jacket this year as well as an in Armour Basilisk. Klim will be releasing new motorcycle gear in February, so it will be interesting to see if they have any new designs to compete with Mosko.

    When it’s cold, you need to layer up, like you said. It’s just a shell.
    As for dealing with heat, when I had my leather jacket, I’d just unzip the main zip partway and the air would rush in. Can you simply do that without needing to shove a spring into the vent?

  • @billwaterhouse5894

    Interesting. I own that exact jacket but only wear in late fall through early spring…don’t think I’ve ever opened the vents other than walking the dog in the rain. I’ll have to test. Thanks for the video

    Its why I returned that jacket. Its over-engineered, ill fitting and the vents are silly. They dont work at all. A better idea is to get the Adventure Spec Supershirt. I use that with the Klim Raport GTX. If I have to remove the KLIM because its hot, I can depend somewhat on the SuperShirt.

    • @inhardinated
      @inhardinated  10 месяцев назад

      Ah, okay. Just had a look at the supershirt. Yeah, I think that’s it…you need that abrasion protection. And the Klim is def the way to go man. I was back and forth on it but the Raptor is still a minimalist jacket with all the weather protection.

    • @RandomGRK
      @RandomGRK 10 месяцев назад

      @@inhardinated Yeah, if its warm I can wear the supershirt with the AdvSpec Trailhead Jersey. Using a zipper to get the jersey on and off is incredible. I also removed the chest, back and shoulder protectors and wear my Alpinestars A10. When I get to an extended stop, its still only takes about 15 seconds to remove everything to my baselayer.

    • @RandomGRK
      @RandomGRK 10 месяцев назад

      @@inhardinated I really only wear the Raptor if its cold to help layer and block wind. If it isnt too bad, I leave the Raptor at home and take my Scotts rain jacket. Its cheaper, stretchy and packs cheaper. I rely on my armor and the supershirt for abrasion. For regular touring I wear a regular built in armor jacket.

      I had everything open. Basically from about 27 degrees up…it’s too hot to wear. Mesh would be cool but for the highway I wanted the abrasion protection. On dirt or whatever I go straight armour. The jacket is just not good. It may hold up in a crash but I seriously hate it. It sucks. Thank you for your ...brutally honest opinion about this Mosko jacket ! 💪
    What's your opinion about venting in this newest Basilisk Pants ?
    These new updated pants look like they have significantly smaller intake vents !
    Are they effective ?
    What about leaks on the zips?
    I had these pants in hand, and the zips were really hard to fully zip to the top end, ( simply fully close the zips ) just having pants on the floor ... not to mention to fully close them whilst riding.
    Did you experience any leaks throughout zips ?

    Great review and very fair I think. Surprised they missed something that obvious. Like you though I can deal with the cold well I overheated 🥵 all the time with most jackets but after a serious accident I decided protection was a must. I have been using an old Klim badlands for ages and I kept it on even on the Cape York old telegraph track with all the slow riding. The pit zips and multiple ventilation points work amazingly well to cool you on such a heavy jacket. Very expensive and heavy but worth it in my opinion as I wanted a jacket with out a waterproof insert which has to put in and out and blocks ventilation. A shame about the MM jacket. It is a great looking jacket. I would suggest you try a mates jacket before making a decision as it is a personal matter. If you go past Adelaide I have a couple of Klim jackets you can try to see if they suit you before committing to something that expensive and I am sure someone closer to home will help you out. Good simple solution by the way. Love it. Klim has done the same creating a spring in the sleeve fabric that shapes it into an air scoop when unzipped

      Yes, 40C+ is a like an oven. I've ridden in 45C heat (today and yesterday), plus the previous day to those two (41C), and I have discovered that the area of mesh panels and their location is important. Of course, those mesh panels provide no protection in a crash, but the chest area isn't so susceptible to injury, compared to the 'pointy' parts of the body (shoulders, elbows, hands, hips, knees, feet and head), so getting a reasonable amount airflow to the upper body makes the ride tolerable. So is 45C a real tough level of heat? Not if the humidity is low and you're not exerting yourself. In my case, I was just cruising on the road at about 70MPH and letting the bike 'eat the miles'. Coming to a stop and feeling the radiant heat of the sun is another thing though. So, what jacket do I wear? It's a $45US cheapie 'Riding Tribe' brand from Aliexpress, so not a rugged rally style, so 'light duty' protection. Being able to ride for an hour and not feel hindered by the hot conditions is really #1 objective, so ventilation is what I went for.

    Imo all Mosko gear is for pnw. Doesn’t work so good in utah. Bags too heavy and clothes for wet. Love inside boot mesh pants are my fav! I use baskils in winter and klim mesh jacket in summer with a large cheapo rain jacket in morning. I’m good to be cold but I hate being too hot.

    • @TheFoxyt2
      @TheFoxyt2 8 месяцев назад

      so I have the newer gen of the basilisk jacket and its still hot, but it doesn't have those rain flaps that trap the air or prevent the air from going in. so, because its hot and I'm a heat sissy. I will use the klim baja s4 during the summer and the mosko during the winter. Using a cheapo rain jacket to block the wind on the klim mesh jacket in the mornings or if there is a summer storm. In fact, the klim mesh is too hot and I hope to pickup a workhorse jersey/shirt and run just that unless I'm going above 60mph and the slide protection basilisk isn't too hot.

    Interesting and i could see what you mean, i have the first gen Basilisk jacket and those have no flaps over the vents (or front zip either). I consider my first gen Basilisk as the best vented rainproof outer layer i have had. I have the AS Supershirt as protective layer and this gives me great oportunities to stay with a jersey on hot days as outer layer. Got me the Rak Pullover and are very curious on haw that will perform in different situations, only been riding with it winter tims so far. Cool mod though! Could probably be done with larger zip ties looped as well.

      @inhardinated  10 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah fair enough. Let me know how you end up going with the Pullover. I was also looking at that as well. The zip tie idea is a brilliant idea! and def cheaper than the $16 I spent. Simple hack.

    • @Braapncamp
      @Braapncamp 10 месяцев назад

      @@inhardinated The pullover has less or different vents so i do not expect it to be great, but as said my layering is built on not needing the outer shell if warm temps. I have had the AS Singletrack jacket for a couple of years and thats a warm jacket but very light weight, thus jacket should be compared to the Rak Pullover. The Rak is more substantial and feels better quality, vent should be the same, but will evaluate that When winter and early spring is over.

    Lots of interesting points here to be sure, but you are talking about riding in 40+ degree temperatures AND with that jacket you have armor on underneath so there is very little you can do in a situation like this. I would argue that the jacket is not designed for extreme heat like you are riding it in. I like to call these jackets "Snowsuits" and they all suck in extreme heat. they are amazing for temps not much higher than the mid 20's. I was riding in Europe this past summer with a "snowsuit" but once I got into southern France and Spain the jacket (with all kinds of vents) was no longer safe for me to ride. I sent it back to Canada and purchased a full-on summer jacket. One that was vented like crazy. Even then it was hot in 40+ but I would have died in the jacket I brought with me and that goes for pants as well. In the end, it's a compromise, and knowing the temperature you will be in should dictate the clothing you bring. Sometimes when you are on the road for extended periods like my 3 month 10K mile trip you find out the hard way. Anyway, I'm interested in watching more of your videos and of course, that is just my $0.02

    • @inhardinated
      @inhardinated  9 месяцев назад

      Thanks David. Funnily enough…this was supposed to be the minimalist upgrade from my old snow suit. No armour, super lightweight etc. Just ZERO airflow. And yeah…good call out in 40 degree days etc. I guess I’ll just hook up a heavily vented summer jacket and get on with it. Just disappointed I have to buy yet another jacket to ride around in summer.

      @@inhardinated The truth is, after all the heat in southern Europe when i got to Poland it was getting cold again and OMG, I had to buy a snowsuit jacket again!!! Gortex is generally not too necessary and adds weight.

And I’m not going to carry two jackets. I’m just going to buy another jacket that has proper ventilation.

Maybe that dollar amount is Australian dollars? I don't know but anyone living in the United Stated you can buy the jacket and pants for $1250. I have the Revit! sand 4 H20 pants and jacket. Man that is da'shit! I rode in 105 degree Texas heat for 7 hours with and then rode in Wyoming for 4.5 hours in 45degF rain and didn't get a drop inside my gear. I crashed recently at 40mph wearing the Revit Sand 4 H20 jacket with the integrated pads and I hit the concrete and rolled like a rolling pin and ended up in a 5 foot drainage ditch on the side of the road.
