Should be a felony to sleep on this masterpiece. This game was phenomenal. Gameplay, story and the level of difficulty were almost nearly perfect in my opinion. Well I was only 12 when I first played it so I suppose I'm biased by the nostalgia.
Definitely one the most underrated Square titles. It's always been one of my personal favorites, ohh the customizable weapons and armor, the insanely hard boss fights (this music here being one of my all time favorite boss themes) just brings back so many memories. I actually still have the original copy along with the sequel, and damn it, now I'm going to have to play those back to back now lol But man, when I finally conquered the Chrysler Building in the EX game, I was ecstatic, it literally took me about week to finally bring down the final boss once and for all, the constant re-healing, UGH... This is definitely on my top 5 list of Square titles, the others being FF7. Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, and FF9 ^.^
ZeldaFan2004 Actually it took her the longest to transform out of any creature in the game. This included any animal in the game or any human like character for that matter. To really understand why, look at who Sheeva was and stop and think about it. Sheeva was an older police dog (ex Canine unit). If you stop and look at her, that means she was trained since a puppy to do good and save people (amongst many other tasks). This would mean that her core nature is to help, not to destroy which the mitochondria controllers were trying to make her do. It was why she was running away from Ben (basically her nature was trying to protect him).
That moment when you realized you didn't level Aya high enough to safely navigate her through the NYPD hallways without getting killed by annoying Spiders or those big monsters on your way to Sheeva.... And hearing this soundtrack again and again as you tried to get there in one damn piece. Good times. Good times. ;-;
RadiusZero sad thing is with New Game plus mode you actually wanted to grind the fuck out of this game. You wanted to get to level 99 to unlock the real ending...
It does? Howso? I feel like it wouldn't feel out of place in today's games, though perhaps it's a bit simplistic comparatively. But I feel like that works in its favor too in a way.
@@loveandrockets4life Oh yeah, no worries! I didn't take it as you insulting it, I just thought it was an interesting opinion! I'm really interested in music theory, so stuff like that is super fascinating to me.

This a great song from shimomura-san, and this a great work indeed. It is used a lot, but i recall immediatly, the giant wurm battle the second and last time you visit snowy the central park.
Damn.... I remember first playing this game and hearing this song, when battling the Sewer Croc. Using my PE for the first time, on top of that, while trying not to die, sent shivers down my spine!
Yes you can believe what you want, but we don't have the tools yet to know what happens when the time comes, biology and neurobiology aren't that advanced yet.

Best played on epsxe than a jurry rigged ppsspp eboot. Played it to hell and back just for that sweet 999 stats guns legit. Best weapon i made legit is a powerful sniper rifle, one shot, long range, deadly.
8 лет назад+1
I prefer the custom pistol. 9 shots, super high power, super high ATrecovery Super high movement (And I think you could mod it to increase your PE recovery). Very recommended to fight Maya that moves like she's FUCKING THUNDER!
My favorite was an SMG where I used a super tool to get rid of the ability that made it switch targets randomly, then gave it whatever the most number of shots per turn was and shotgun spread on each bullet. Then I just scavenged the stat bonuses from every single weapon I found.
Just a quick post on this. The sniper rifle that i made was actually an m16a1 base, with 380 atk, 999 range, and 5 ammo cap. It has no sbot multiplier, cyanide rounds and i think the twin action. I discovered that having no shot multiplier actually out dps something with 10 shots because damage falls off each shot a gun has to compensate to its damage output. So what im saying is, low shot gun has more damage than a gun with more shots but what it lack is that when you miss its a 0. So its a 1 or 0 in my case. But boy did i experience damage reaching around 900 in a single action. I couldnt even do that on the maeda rounds in the final boss of the main game. Its actually a challenge my pops made for me because when were both playing it on a legit ps1(the big ass one), im the one whose always customizing his guns on his save cuz he didnt know how to fiddle with this kind of games. So i once made him essencially, a twin uzi but i didnt took into account to remove that annoying random targetting mod so hes not satisifes but when i made him a dual desert eagle, a pistol woth max 999 atk, 300 range, and i think 20 ammo max, with 2 shots mod, cyanide ammo, and twin action he was really happy and it get him through the chrystler building. When i did chrystler that was my weapon, the twin action sniper rifle.
Yeah, it's one of my favorite ps1 games of all time back in the day when I first played video games. Psone was my first video game system since 99. Even though it's been decades until now it's been a little more than 20 years. They should make a remastered version of this game or a reboot that is square enix will accept on it. I hoped they do in the future.
Fun surprise: If you just let the EXP gained from the Spider Boss tick down (without hitting X to just have it complete immediately), it takes about as long as this Extended version
Back when Square held the entire JRPG Industry on both the SNES and the PS1 era with an iron grip. When they released a new JRPG everybody bought It no questions asked , and they were making new IP on this level all day. If they just didn't chase more mass appeal ( or start taking 5+ years on every game obsessed with visuals that are dated by the time game arrives ) It's always the same rise and fall story.
Exactly!!! This is/was also a big, big part of why Nintendo lost it's dominance to the PlayStation. The few true gems released after the SNES era were mostly on there, like this one, and Xenogears and Final Fantasy Tactics etc...
Killing Ben's beloved dog Sheeva was tragic because she mutated into Kerebrus. I gotta say the boss music makes feel like playing Parasite Eve once again.

Mike The Fox this game had a new game+ mode. So you wanted to Over Level Aya Brea. Once you hit level 45 the leveling distribution damn near became uniform. You can reach level 99 in about 16 hours of grinding. And if you wanted the good ending, you needed to be 99th level.
I still remember the first time I played this game. I loved Central Park so much. I didn't even use my gun, I would run in with my club and beat things to death. It was hilarious, they never touched me in the park (that changed later of course). The boss was fun to beat as well. Unfortunately 3rd Birthday (although an amazing game) really screwed up with their boss system. They made the bosses so ridiculously hard that one has to resist the urge to throw the PSP into traffic rather than fight that mother f.......ahem annoying boss one more time. The first real level in 3rd Birthday you start....not against enemies but a super powered boss. When you weaken it enough it runs away and you go through the level. If you are lucky enough to have not lost a single soldier, then you have a chance to get the best rank. Then you get further through the level (easy for the most part) and have to fight the boss....a second time. This time he is more annoying and doesn't just stay in one place. You have to be lightning fast and have great reflexes to beat it. If that wasn't bad enough, shortly after you beat that boss, there is yet ANOTHER boss in the same level. This one is new and you can't really do much damage until you Overdrive it to weaken it, and then use Liberation to really go to town. Honestly trying to beat the whole level without losing a Soldier is insane. That was just the first level. I pride myself in finishing a game, but to be honest I got bored of 3rd Birthday. The levels weren't enough to grab me. The music was great, the combat system was amazing, but the bosses just ruined the game for me. Parasite Eve 1 on the other hand....*whistles* what a bombshell of a game (and I'm not saying that because Aya is the main character lol). Everything was done perfectly in it (which is a rarity for many rpgs.
The first real boss of the first real level is annoying as all hell to beat. I don't know what it is about using Aya's abilities to break his defences so you can actually damage it, but some reason the style just annoys me. The game was fun, but honesetly that Dive Jumping into the enemies got old VERY fast and having to do that for most of the bosses just killed the game for me. It just made me not interested in finishing it. After the third level I was bored. The cool thing was diving between Soldiers to get fresh life, but that was all that was good. I mean some of the achievements or equivalent thereof was to keep ALL soldiers alive, that is doable (as I have done it) but incredibly annoying. Trust me, you go through the second level and do a challenge of keeping all soldiers alive, I dare you. It is a nightmare. Luckily it is only the first time you fight the mid boss as I would call it that you have to do that, but still. It is annoying and they turned Parasite Eve one....into THAT? What were they thinking? The best aspect of Parasite Eve 1 was the mystery and intrigue as well as the creepiness of everything around you. Parasite Eve 3rd Birthday kept the creepiness and made it action oriented and took everything else out. No RPG elements nothing...save leveling up Aya. There's something wrong with developers that can kill a series like that. That said, 3rd Birthday is still a fun game (it's one I will eventually go back and finish) but as it sits there are far better games out there than that installment (coughs Pokemon X, Y, Alpha Sapphire, Omega Ruby, Bravely Default, Rune Factory 4 just to name a few on the 3ds alone), but it is still a decent game and has some fun to it.

NGMK Actually, it's based on a book, and they lost the rights for it. That's why 3rd Birthday doesn't have "Parasite Eve" on its title.
R.I.P. Sheeva.
I hated that part... Sheeva resisted the teansformation valiantly though. Took her longer than the people in central park! Shows how awesome she was.
ZeldaFan2004 Yeah I wasn't a dog person back when I played P.E. but I totally hated that part too. Sheeva was one unlucky pooch.

Yep. This sounds like me when I was younger and playing thru this!

Found this through a saga genesis remix. I am glad.
Obra maestra!
