Just in case no one has explained it yet... The tattoos are called Runes. Each symbol has a different purpose/ability. There's a speed rune, strength rune, etc. You either activate them or draw them in order to use them. Despite it being not one of the best-made shows I've ever seen, it's still one of my top favorites. I love the characters. I recommend checking it out if you're looking for a good time. Also, Magnus and Alec are the best together. So there's that.
