My friend sent me this link to this version of the song and I clicked it, afraid I wouldn't like it. I'm glad my preconceptions were wrong! When translating a song to be sung, artistic liberties are necessary as a literal translation won't fit the rhythm as easily as it happens in the DYRL movie. Interpretations may vary, and it depends on how one conceives what is implied. As I read the original Japanese lyrics, the song strikes me as a bittersweet song, a message to a loved one who has passed on. It's about memories of love and recovering from a mourning phase. She has cried every day since he departed, defeated by loneliness. She envisions him as an image, beckoning her. She feels his warmth, even though he is not there. She asks him to watch over her from far away, though he has departed. But she still feels his presence and is now a part of her. Perhaps my interpretation is a bit sadder, but the version in this video brought a tear to my eye nevertheless.

Beautiful voice, I love how it sounds in Japanese, but seeing that it also rhymes in English while sounding lovely was cool! I'm a long time Macross fan, having first watched Robotech as a child and then learning about it's origins 22 years ago. I know have a 400+ item collection of rare Macross resin/plastic kits, toys, magazines, movies and posters going back to 1982, most in pristine condition and a lot are extremely rare from Wonder Festivals.
outstanding. so often I see english versions by fans that are too harsh to hear due to the wrong choice of words. The verbal flow usually isn't pleasing or too percussive in parts when it shouldnt be, or the sentences lack the elegance of good songwriting / matching the original language's feel; but you've done a wonderful job with this one. I looooove the original and this is a worthy english counterpart. Cheers!
I love this so much! 😍 Macross is one of my favorite anime series' of all time. I never thought I'd hear such an amazing english cover of one of the songs. You captured the feel of the original so well, even when changing the language. I'm honestly really impressed.
Me again. This time, this one hits home; I've been a Macross fan for years and there's a soft spot in my cold, dark heart for Minmay and her songs, especially D.Y.R.L. You've made a grown man shed a tear lady. Thanks.
Fun (?) Trivia (?): The song “Do You Remember Love” is actually canonically written in English. It is sung in Japanese because... its and anime but who knows? Maybe Minmei is just a master in on-the-fly song translation. Heck, the most widespread language in the Macross is probably English. Everyone “speaks” Japanese since its an Anime.
In this animated story, the boss of the Zentraedi army, Bodlzer, had only music plates and no lyrics. Meanwhile, among the ancient ruins left on earth, Misa picked up a plate, but did not know what was written on it. However, after hearing the aforementioned music, Misa realized. What was written on the plate was a lyric. Misa then analyzed the plate and translated it into Japanese. At this time, a lyric was created in which one Japanese letter was assigned to each one note. In reality, the song was written in Japanese by Kazumi Yasui and composed by Kazuhiko Kato. The song was then translated into English.
I remember that you tell Shiki this is one of your favorite covers, and I can get why... Is not only a beautiful song, your voice is beyond this world 🥹🫶🏻
Do you remember love, the mood of the pursuit of love, really can be felt, the lyrics is also very understanding, no wonder, it is the most popular song within the album.

My wife and I danced to the platina jazz cover of this song on our wedding day 3 years ago. This cover makes me wish I could go back in time with a flash drive and play your version instead 😩
Got here from the LeeAndLie version, and while I love that version as well, this struck me as more real and authentic. I really appreciate the care and love you put into this.
I love the lyrics translation and interpretation!!! Awsome job!!!!
This really deserves more recognition, your vocals fit perfectly for this song and maybe it’s just because I grew up watching the RoboTech series, but hearing this makes me tear up.
Amazing cover ❤️
My childhood memories. Thank you so much for uploading this song in English version.
Perfect cover of this song. Robotech was a little before my time when it originally aired but I watched reruns of it back in the mid 90s when I was kid. Never forgot this song or other song Minmei sang. This brought good memories and a big smile on my face. Thank you Ms. Myers.
Then you should watch macross it’s the original and better version
@@miguelcarrera7649 no, it's not. let him be. robotech is awesome. the story is better, the script is better and theme is way way better.
@@paulinelambert7780 i clearly isn’t it aged badly not to mention the changed songs and theme really didn’t respect what macross was honestly it’s my opinion I tried watching robotech and I’m be honest I couldn’t even sit down for one episode compared to macross that till this day is one of my favorite anime serious
@@miguelcarrera7649 you can keep to your yamete yamete iku iku sugoi japanese macross. yuck.
I’m in love with my best friend. I’ve never been in a relationship, so every single line rings true for me. This is probably what I’ll use to tell her when I’m ready.
Your voice is so beautiful. Those high notes are absolutely graceful! I definitely should have found this sooner than I did.
I'm saving this song for someone special. I only hope she accepts my love for her. But then again, Minmay did sing this with a broken heart.
If she does, cherish it.
If she doesn't, don't be discouraged.
Love is worth it.
WAIT I LOVE THIS SONG OMG SHES GONNA DO THIS SONG AS WELL?!?! IM SO EXCITED!!!!
Never heard a English cover for Do You Remember Love before as a Macross fan.
THIS IS AMAZING!
Its 12:23 AM January 1st 2023. And this is the first song i choose to listen to for this year
This song is the best song to listen to on new years
There's just something beautiful about 80s song. It feels nostalgic, and sound like something you'd find at a karaoke.
Goosebumps. I've cried a little bit from this cover vid.
I've never even seen the series but I know this song from way way back.
Thank you for making this.
様々な人がこの曲をカバーしましたが、あなたが一番です。
とてもよい。
こうなると「天使の絵の具」も聴きたくなりますね (^_^
The last 2-3 years the world events were not so awesome. But with the support of great artists making and singing masterpieces like this. We can find the power to deal with everything that is going on.

Dear Caitlin...AWESOME JOB !!!...it brings back so many memories. finally an english version. Wen couples argue, i play this song. A Healing Tool. Thank u n Blessing too.
My favourite anime series of all time.... and the music just gets better with the newer remakes. You gave me the tingles from this song. Your voice is spectacular.
A long time ago when I was a teenager I trasnlated this song for someone.... ugh back listening to you sing again...
Totally in love with your rendition of this song. Wish I'd discovered it while you were still posting here. It'd be so very awesome if you were to voice Lynn Minmay in a dub of this movie or in a remake someday.
Exellent!!
Your voice has given us sweet tone in the all of listeneies!
Thank you for your sweet melody and beautiful voice!
outstanding. so often I see english versions by fans that are too harsh to hear due to the wrong choice of words. The verbal flow usually isn't pleasing or too percussive in parts when it shouldnt be, or the sentences lack the elegance of good songwriting / matching the original language's feel; but you've done a wonderful job with this one. I looooove the original and this is a worthy english counterpart. Cheers!
Absolutely beautiful and extraordinary!
You absolutely, without any doubt, have done this song the proper justice it deserves. Completely perfect.
Obligatory “It’s strange, I feel like I’ve heard this song before.... eons ago.” Comment
Its the protoculure my friend

For a while I was transported back to rhe days of Karen Carpenter. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.
Best comment.
That was beautiful! I almost cried...
I love this so much! 😍 Macross is one of my favorite anime series' of all time. I never thought I'd hear such an amazing english cover of one of the songs. You captured the feel of the original so well, even when changing the language. I'm honestly really impressed.
Just found this today, it’s been on repeat at least 8 times already!
This song is awesome!. is my favorite.
Lagu yang menusuk kalbu mengembalikan kenangan waktu dahulu. Terima kasih Caitlin.
1:42 to the vocalist, the post-production team, and whoever still listening this masterpiece
Everyone “speaks” Japanese since its an Anime.
yea
Actually it was ancient alien language song and Misa translated it into english, then Minmay sang it in Japanese lol
It's like listening to it for the first time all over again. Amazing work as always
4:43. This small echo....I felt that. That's original and classy.
the definitive english version, thank you for covering this song.
I remember that you tell Shiki this is one of your favorite covers, and I can get why...
Is not only a beautiful song, your voice is beyond this world 🥹🫶🏻
I never thought I would hear an English version of this song. It's so great!
love the translation... keeps the feelings of the Original and your voice is amazing
This makes me excited for the possibility of you covering Angels Paint/Tenshi no Enogu
I LOOOOVE Angel's Paint, Lynn Minmay supremacy
@@caitlinmyers impeccable taste
@@caitlinmyers Angel’s Paint is the best song on the Macross soundtrack, it would be amazing to hear you cover it.
@@AtDawn I've listened to it nonstop since I first watched this incredible film... very deculture indeed ☺️
I hope that some day I would be lucky enough to dance this at my wedding. Thank you for this cover, it means a lot to me!
Do you remember love, the mood of the pursuit of love, really can be felt, the lyrics is also very understanding, no wonder, it is the most popular song within the album.
wow.....i mean....wow.....You captured the essence of Mari Ijima so well as well as the spirit of this song. I heard 3 verisons and now I've heard yours. Miss...its Legendary. I hope you get to be a Macross Idol if another series rolls around. You LITERALLY are the BEST english Minmei singer ever. your voice is powerful yet soft,a perfect blend. you're awesome. these words can't describe adequately how your performance makes me feel. I'll say this though PROTOCULTURE!!!!
A great rendition! It was so good, my eyes started to water a bit from nostalgia from my first anime.
I went on a nostalgia run with old anime, getting along with my age. This whole scene, action, characters and music holds such a place in my heart, so naturally hearing this fantastic English cover, you've captured the tone, the rhythm and mood of the Japanese version.
"I'll never be all alone" hits so hard, maybe it's not so hard to believe one can fall in love again? Thank you for making this cover.
idk how ya do it. But, ya always overwhelm me with emotion w/ your singing voice.
Oh my goodness, thank you for this amazing English cover, especially in the current calendar year! I have been on a Macross binge for the last month or so (especially with the news of Harmony Gold loosening their stranglehold on the license), and it is bringing me so much joy to see this series has still endeared in the hearts of many.
Keep up the amazing work!
