Gotta say, the “stole some of your Tera orbs charge” is such a frustrating mechanic.
Not if you also consider the “nullified the abilities and stat changes affecting your side”
Along with a pokemon seemingly able to do that. And then also still be able to attack you

I've had a ton of success with this same build online, just back out of any raid that isn't running a fairy type

"You may not want to use Gardevoir for a raid ever again." The very fact that I can use Gardevoir effectively for anything already makes me happy.
Is Gardevoir really bad now? A few generations ago it was a standout compared to a lot of Pokémon.
I soloed this raid with Gardevoir. Got it done the first time thanks to Moonblast and Draining Kiss
I literately just got Charizard with gardevoir
Baxcalibur with mixed bulk and max Attack with Assault Vest solos it easily. Even with misses. No cheers or DDance needed. Just swing Icicle Crash until you're one shot away and Glaive Rush. Terra when shield is up
Same, Gardivoir and Gallade solo most raids for me. Reflect/Light Screen and boom.
For those who are having a hard time keeping your team alive during this raid. Calm nature Blissey with light clay helping hand, light screen, life dew, heal pulse with EV HP and Sp Def has done wonders for me when farming/ helping people with raid.
This is my build but with Gardevoir with reflect instead of heal pulse. It has been a huge help!
@@seansullivan2351 I have not tried a Gardevoir build yet, going have to try it. I love using Healer builds. I really like the Wo-Chien build with pollen puff, light screen, Reflect and ingrain that Austin John talked about too. So it will be nice to add a Fairy/Psychic Healer as well.
how about keeping my team awake... i just happen to find a 6 star normal raid with sylveon in it, and i tried iron hand which is bad cause fairy 2x effective to fighting, then i tried flutter mane just sleep over and over again, then i tried gholdengo sure he is immune to sleep but damn when sylveon shielded he has no damage whatsoever, i tried use chesto berry for flutter mane and it just make me survive it's first yawn, and the second one sleep like a log, and yeah lose the time cause my fluttermane and my whole team asleep not to mention sometimes when you solo the bot just not moving even if not paralyze or sleep
and can i ask a question, gholdengo is a ghost and steel type pokemon right, so if the enemy used normal type like hyper voice, he should be immune right? or i am missing something on this? cause the time i used gholdengo against normal type 6 star raid sylveon it hypervoice my gholdengo with "not very effective" not "doesn't effect" so am i missing on the pokemon typing or what?
@Charles G 6 star Sylveon can possibly have it's hidden ability, Pixilate, which turns normal moves into fairy type, which Steel type Gholdengo resists.
This was easier than I thought it was gonna be. Had someone nearly one-shot it with a Sylveon’s Pixilated Hyper Beam.
Sylveon light screen and draining kiss is all you need to solo or carry your own weight in groups. (Pixellate gets negated when the shield goes up iirc.)
@akaicedtea6236 I agree with this minus the last part. Not sure why everyone keeps saying this stuff. People keep saying Azumarill loses Huge Power. But I've been using pixilate Sylveon and my normal attacks never stop being super effective so I'm not sure what this is all about.
I had someone in the raid with a breloom who got destroyed but we still finished it with 2 sylveon and a grimmsnarl :D

@akaicedtea6236 It is one of the many assumptions people make. Have anyone tested it? Probably not, so it shouldn't be believed.
I used Azumaril. Misty Terrain is extremely useful as a start move. Not being confused for half the match is wonderful.
I’ve also been using Misty Terrain, the lack of confusion combined with the boosted power to Fairy moves is crazy
@@ZonarohGaming misty terrain is the only terrain that does not boost moves actually! considering how important misty terrain tends to be in vgc, it might be a little unbalanced if it did. however, it does cut dragon attacks in half, so using it alongside a rock type might work well against charizard

Which pokemon did you use?
keep in mind, huge power is bugged in raid dens. The hp bar shows the damage that would of been done with huge power, but the health resets to what you do without huge power after a bit, which is why it seems to be healing itself randomly. So, if you want to be a bit bulkier, and use azumarill, you can just use thick fat.

liquidation and aqua tail seems to work just fine on azumarill, the bug happens only when you use play rough
@@AustinJohnPlays The bug isn't specifically huge power because I've experienced it using Play Rough on Iron Hands. It could be a bug with play rough, but I also suspect it's actually an underflow glitch, where you do so much damage the game replaces an extremely low/negative value with a high one (effectively healing the raid pokemon and/or causing issues with displaying an appropriate amount of hp).
Note at the beginning of your vid, using Play Rough unboosted does not trigger the glitch despite the fact that you're using huge power, but once you're fully set up, the game has issues displaying/calculating the proper hp.
Combining belly drum, a high attack stat (like Iron Hands and HP azumarill have) with a super effective move that has high base damage does absolutely obscene amounts of damage and we know that the hp bars of the raid pokemon are basically like 20-30x their base hp. Depending on how the hp values are coded, we may be experiencing some sort of hp underflow when we're firing off supper effective double stab play roughs with an attack stat in the thousands.
All this time I thought the healing was just a bs mechanic introduced in this fight

A small tip for people using Daschbun (sp), you can run a physically attacking one focusing on Play Rough & Tera Blast... BUT give it Snarl for Sp. Atk reduction. I've gotten a lot more success with Snarl on my loadout.
EDIT: To be specific, my strategy is Atk Daschbun, with Assault Vest and then Play Rough, Tera Blast (Fairy) & Snarl. Just in case someone ends up using the doggo.
Dachsbun makes a good support role for a team. Misty Terrain & Helping hand to buff a Azumarill. Play Rough to chip away at HP.
Me and my mate did this with me running the offensive one and him running one with mudslap and snarl, it was sooooooo easy
I use the ability shield to keep the fire immunity from ever going away. It strips Charizard of more than half its attack options for targeting you, which means it either throws Hurricane only at you or focuses on the NPCs, both being win-win situations.

Gotta try Choice Band + Play Rough Azumarill. A lot less RNG

I'm really glad that it'll return later. I was hoping to breed a new team of mons that I really like for re-challenging the gyms, but because this event was so short it felt like I wouldn't be able to do both
Dude same! I was like I literally had no time to do both and I didn't know that I had to rechallenge the gyms to unlock the raid. I chose to just go forward with the raid. I'll breed later
Thank you so much for showing that there are actually a ton of pokemon capable of doing this raid. I greatly appreciate that and it allows for more flexibility in teams and creativity in trainers.
Overall this was a W for the game. It was so much fun seeing the community come together closer than we have in a long time to theory craft and share ideas and builds. Already can't wait for the next event

Sorry to inform you that super power is broken, at very least with Charizard, It calculates the damage correctly at first, then if you wait a sec Charz HP goes back to damage without super power, you're only getting belly drum. Poke Devs have to fix this on next patch

As always, solid resource! I solo'd last night with my huge power Azu (i have a similar build to Austin on the EV/IV front cause i followed a build idea after watching the 7* raid prep video), similar strat. The huge power/belly drum health bar miscalc bug was the hardest part of that raid. Gonna go make a Flutter Mane next to farm the raid

Decided to spend my resources to max out a flutter mane the same way you did and now I’m just sweeping though those raids. Glad to see someone else using shell bell Azu, was worried it wouldn't heal enough but after doing a few raids it works really well.

Remember to make sandwiches and go to the area around the fairy star base. Normal type spawn amplification spawns a crap ton of chansey to battle properly for 3.7k~6.6k xp with lucky egg. Bottle caps and i believe patches can be obtained from the school tournament as well. It shouldn't take to long to get set up if you are willing to sit down and out in the necessary time.
@@neckbeardcat6777that's where I'ma at rn got a few gyms to to test and need to make my Gardevoir a fairy tera type and then I'ma give it a shot a little grinding but should be able to attempt this event otherwise have to catch it next time lol

I really didn't think I was going to be able to do this raid, but I just soloed it! Took a few tries cause this game is janky as hell, but still, I'm happy I was able to do it! Got through it with the Azumarill build! Thanks Austin John!
I genuinely did not think this was going to be this easy. Just wanted to say thanks for the Flutter Mane set, I'd not had chance to use the mon before and it absolutely bodies zard. Nice one Austin John.
Also, I found that if you happen to be the unlucky Overheat target, if you fire off one Fake Tears, Draining Kiss will do enough to bring you back upto full health. Even if you get KO'd from random crits you still have plenty of time.
Shoutout to you, Austin John!!! It took me all weekend only to realize i was going at it wrong. Looking to your EV guide and this one today, I FINALLY caught Charizard by myself. I personally used the Azumarill method and changed out helping hands for rainy day. Although it pretty well guarantees Hurricane, the light screen helped counter it and weakend all its fire type moves. With the right timing and some luck, I did it with all thanks to you!!!

Hey, these ones were very helpful! I also used a Mimikyu with Light Screen, Sword Dance, Play Rough and Shell Bell and could solo it!
Thanks - I was running misty terrain instead of light screen on my azumarill, but I was just taking too much damage to get belly drummed play rough off before fainting. Light screen made the process much easier. Really helpful!

If you’re here to figure out how to beat charizard yourself, you can also give the fluttermane mystical fire and he will never raise his SPA back up. You won’t do much damage but it neuters Zard’s attack potential. Helps a lot in multiplayer too

On an even brighter note, I managed to get the Shiny after only 40 eggs. I keep coming back to your videos time and time again because it leads to a more enjoyable gameplay experience. Great Video! One little nitpick my competitive brain is focusing on, I'm not sure what your calculations were (and it's rather minimal anyway) but it's actually better for flutter mane to be invested in HP for this than Sp.Def
252 evs increases a stat by 63 points, but bc flutter mane has such low hp that 63 is a higher % increase when added on to 251(HP) than 306(spdef). After boosting, the extra stat points in Sp.Def do add up but with Max HP you are taking less damage than you are going to with Sp.Def

Hp w/ 0 boosts
0+ SpA Charizard Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Flutter Mane: 109-129 (34.7 - 41%)
Sp.Def w/ 2 boosts
0+ SpA Charizard Fire Blast vs. +2 0 HP / 252 SpD Flutter Mane: 45-54 (17.9 - 21.5%)
Hp w/ 2 boosts
0+ SpA Charizard Fire Blast vs. +2 252 HP / 0 SpD Flutter Mane: 55-66 (17.5 - 21%)
The calcs are consistent all the way to +6. While these are definitely minimal differences in this scenario going HP makes you much much more generally bulky so if there comes a time again when we need to use flutter mane for a physical attacker you won't have to retrain an entire new flutter mane or wipe away this one's spdef EVs.
We over prepared for this. Gonna do this for those juicy ability patches once I hatched a shiny Charmander. Wish me luck!

Finally hatched a Shiny Charmander at 504 eggs. Second Shiny Charmander around 200 eggs.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I was able to beat him in two tries. I modified your build a bit by using Misty Terrain instead of Moonblast. Light Screen and Misty Terrain slmost completely neutralized him. Thanks again!

@@crunchybanana252 yes, i used a lvl 100 Azumarill with the huge power ability. Used the fairy tera type that can be found in the lake where we found the dragon titan it will be at lvl 50+
@@crimsonemperor2219 alright, I caught the Azumarill last night but haven't gotten the chance to check tera type. I also still haven't beaten all the gyms again so I'll probably have to wait until the Charizard event comes back on the 16th or something
@@crunchybanana252 the gyms took me less than 15 mintues with just my fire croc really. They're capped at level 65 for all the gyms so it's not that bad if your pokemon are 70-80.
Yeah the dens are a bit weird. Been running into some other issues where I'll hit first, super effective, if torch song special attack boosts up, but health would not budge. Not skeledirge exclusive, just weird behavior I do see most often at the first move, but have seen even after the shield has broken/whole animation/etc.
That being said! Thank you so much for the guides! Fully appreciate all the help you and the community puts into it!

Did this with Tinkaton and I can confirm that same damage issue happens with any pokemon that lands a massive hit

Update: This Flutter Mane destroys. I’ve done it 20+ times. I didn’t even wait until lv.100. I went into my first 7 Star Raid at lv.87 & was fine.
Wasnt able to do it the first time around but I knew this would come in handy and saved it to my watch later. beat it first with flutter mane, ty Austin 🙏

12:03 I had this same issue of, from what I could tell, my teammate hitting me or taking random damage. Not really sure why and even looking back at a screen recording I couldn't make sense of it. Also had a moment of re-entering from fainting and taking damage after Charizard's Solar Power notification popped up

You really shouldn't be. This event isn't hard at all.
Interesting strat I used to solo: flash fire, swords dance, ceruledge with bitter blade. Holding persim berry for healing off confusion from hurricane. Pretty consistent win since the only attack he uses on you is hurricane and this miss chance helps. Also taught dragon claw for a bit more oomph when bitter blade recovery not needed.

Azurmarill seems like it is bugged. So many times I see the health bar go to 10% or 0% and then all of a sudden the raid pokemon gets their health back when the shield comes up. Then this happens again near the end of the raid too. It's like Azurmarill has to knock out the raid boss multiple times or something more compared to others. I actually stopped using it.
I brought him down to 0 3x and he kept coming back with more health smh anyone wanna help
@@eddiemartinez6879 either huge power or play rough (or both?) are bugged. ive heard it go both ways, it may be optimal to avoid both. as such, flutter mane may be the optimal raider
Azumarril is currently bugged. Huge power is broken and doesn't work. The initial hit will show the dmg it would have done, but after that it goes back to the health as if he hadn't been hit. DO NOT USE AZUMARILL
Love how he says "You have to see the credits" as if it's possible to beat the elite 4 and the gym leaders twice without seeing the credits somehow

For anyone trying to farm these in groups, consider playing as a support. The vast majority of people are going with all out attack builds at the moment so I found a lot more success using my Grimmsnarl to keep my team alive (Charizard barely tickles by the midway point).
My support Sylveon was unbelievably useful.
@@Jiraki_the_Wingless Sylveon plays well as both support and attacker, it's top of my shiny hunting list atm ^^
I used the same setup and just got bodied doing the Azumarill strategy solo. Idk how people are having such an easy time with it. My raids also tend to be a LOT more glitchy and buggy than you’re getting. I managed to beat one yesterday. Definitely getting a Flutter Mane Misdreavus trained up today to try. Grimmsnarl seems to be a great option as well.
If you have access to a HA Eevee, Sylveon can solo it with ease as well. It’s very safe and repeatable.
One tip I saw and am having great luck with is flutter mane w/ choice spec and moon blast. Mine is bottle capped and max EVs in hp and choice specs. But I’ve done about 5 in a row now. I could see a loss due to a bad crit or confusion. But I recommend giving it a try.
I'm thankful you uploaded the Charizard raid videos... I was able to defeat & catch on my first try (w/ a shiny Azumarill) b/c of your guides.

For the item for azumarill I went with bright powder just because charizard is so fast. If you belly drum it’ll outspeed and kill you before you can use the buff. Definitely doing a light screen first or cheer def boost it helps. I found it super clutch with the misses since hurricane and fire blast are lower accuracy already and the bright powder definitely helped. Also the less the moves hit the less chance of burn and confusion

Thank you for this guide. Was able to set up a Sylveon and solo'd the raid first chance. Went with Moon Blast, Draining Kiss, Light Screen, and Fake Tears
If you are playing online you can also bring a pokemon with brittle armor and ability swap wich nerves charizard massively in terms of damage dealt and taken, which then makes it very easy for your teammates

0:43 idk if this would help anyone but putting Trick Room up actually helped me a whole bunch, if your ever on a team with an Azumarill or Sylveon having the trickroom up after they set up is an easy wipe
Caught a shiny Flutter Mane. Fully trained it up EV's/IV's. Used the same move list and soloed it successfully. Already caught it, but it's nice to be able to farm the drops with higher success. Thumbs up AJP.

Holy cow, MAD props to you AJ! I literally beat it first try. I had a random neutral nature lv40 gardevoir in my box - used all my M and L candies to get it to Lv84 and then 7 rare candies to 91. Had 500k, bought calcium and zinc and that was all I needed to beat the Charizard. Massive thanks, just farming it now 😂😅
