As a Taiwanese aviation lover, I really enjoyed your review so much! And from my personal experience with EVA, I do totally agree with your reviews! Well done. 👍
Actually at this time in writing, EVA has announced that they will reconfigure their Boeing 787-9s by adding the Premium Economy section in 2024 to coincide with their recently ordered Dreamliners, which included the 787-9s.
Really enjoyed this review. I follow quite a few flight vloggers and I have to say you have raised the bar significantly! Your attention to details (down to the price of the wines on the wine menu) is a refreshing departure from other reviews I've seen. I look forward to watching more of your reviews. Congratulations on your channel, amazing job!
There is absolutely no question that the Middle Eastern and Asian carriers are, in general, better carriers than European or American. From that bunch I’ve only had mediocre flights on Saudia and the mainland Chinese carriers. Good review Kevin.
@@edikke - not necessarily so. If you’re willing to go through hubs instead of non-stop flights, there are currently, for example, great values on Etihad from Europe to Asia through Abu Dhabi.
Hello Kevin! Another great report for sure. Being from Brazil, I love watching videos of airlines from the other side of the world, specially as these super luxurious airlines are more rare here lol. The food onboard looks delicious! Thanks for sharing, I really enjoy your work!!
Yay, so happy with this video! Very selfish, I know, but the much needed and well deserved (Easter) break you had, felt like a very long boring RUclips drought for me 😅 Can’t wait for your upcoming video’s especially the hotel and resort ones 🎉 Thank you Kevin for my twice weekly happy hour 🙏🏼

Great video as always. I have flown this leg with EVA more than 50 times over the last 30 years always after the much longer New York to Taipei segment. EVA has and probably remains the quickest way to get to New York from Saigon and back. One can take the lunchtime flight on Friday from Saigon and be at home in New York before midnight the same day. EVA has always been proper with service performing as the say plus at least some. I reached diamond status for some years but after retirement got demoted as the flights decreased. My last flight on this segment was nearly four years ago. This is not due to using another carrier… its just that I have not been back to America in nearly four years. Anyway, the segment from Taipei to Saigon has always been fun and upbeat being a mere three hours morning flight after the very long NYC to Taipei and waiting. All the anticipation of getting home to the pets and back to my normal routines is rolled into this leg. Before you know it the flight is descending into Saigon and back home. In the early years… 747s were used for the segment and then 777s. To this day I have never flown on a 787 or A350. The older NYC flights also stopped at Anchorage then some years later began stopping at Seattle. Then at some point the flight would go direct from Taipei to New York (Newark in those days) but make a stop on the way back. Eventually the 777 flights became nonstop both ways. I travelled business class often but in those days they were not lie flat and I would try to find space on the floor to lie down being more comfortable on a hard flat surface then in a lounge position. After I retired about 13 years ago I would just buy economy seat from the sales office in Saigon where there was a wonderful agent who would arrange a seat in an empty row where I could lie down. She did that many times for me and I remain forever grateful to her. Although I have not flown with EVA for nearly four years I would assume the usual proper service. One a flight about five years ago the flight tracker had us within 50 miles of the north pole. On another flight due to an extreme tailwind our groundspeed was “supersonic” for a while. But the most interesting flight in happened to be the last flight in given an approaching typhoon. Our airspeed was down to about ninety knots before touching down given a very powerful headwind. That trip in was one of two occasions when I spent nights in Taipei given weather issues. EVA took very good care of us.
Wow, lots of history for you with EVA! They certainly do have well timed connections to the east coast- the only airline (pre-Covid) which beat them was Air China at a combined 19h10m or so eastbound (…but it’s Air China 😂). Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻
Fun fact, those were new Air Canada Rouge being delivered. They were ex-EVA aircrafts, hence, found in Taiwan. Air Canada typically gets their wide body maintained in SIN or HKG. Narrow bodies are typically done in North America
Excellent as usual - a great product for a short regional sector and a nice wide-body to boot can’t complain about that - I remember their 4 class 747’s and travelled in Royal Laurel class back then - always been a good carrier - thanks again
Very interesting to know how Starlux was created. I only focus in the service, so I rarely read about those stuff 😅 I agree with you about the business class seat. The ones on their regional flights are usually not as nice as on long-haul flights, but of course, those are still very good. I’m pretty sure that the economy seats are pretty much the same as their long-haul product. Having flown EVA in 2016, and I have to say I was very impressed with their economy seat. Really want to try them again in the future
I have to disagree with you on the color palette. I love the dark green and beige combination. It fits well into the Evergreen concept and it looks sophisticated. I don't think it's a dated look. A lot of newer office designs are also adapting the beige/green combo for an oasis look.
Did you see my other EVA video? Their 787s also have grey, beige and green cabins but in a much more updated and modern fashion. Their 777 cabins though look like they’re from decades ago.
Love how you added the history and recent transitions of EVA in the video! EVA's The Garden actl serves pretty good food imo - specifically the beef noodle soup. The only downside of that is you gotta be (or be with) a Diamond card holder to get in.
Hmm, I wonder if it’s also available for Star Gold then as well? I didn’t go into the Garden lounge but I thought I remembered them mentioning I could goto ‘any’ of the lounges.
@@tfft i wish it is:/ I am personally EVA/Star Gold and have asked but it's exclusive for EVA diamond, amex eva platinum cardholder, and cathay bank eva cardholder flying business/royal laurel. hoping they open it up to gold status lol

11:09 "Breakfast started" that's certainly an impressive Breakfast 👌 My least favourite meal in the air would have to be the breakfast options. I'm glad we finally found the missing bags, the suspense was intense 😉 3 and 4 days, though damn ld be pissed 😳
Yupp, the two breakfasts I had on EVA blew just about every other airline out of the water with the exception of ANA and Qatar who held their own quite well.
Just done my bookings for next 15 flights and from watching your videos have been able to learn how to check seat maps etc which is great for me being a nervous solo flyer. EVA was too expensive for me.I am only doing 9 airports around Asia and wow so hard to make direct flights on a reasonable budget so I land at a respectable time to go to hotel and check in.(probably expecting too much) I am looking forward to Korea Business Osaka to Seoul and KLM Singapore to Bali business. Excellent trip report as always Kevin! I will be flying EVA Air B787-10 on VIE-BKK in August, in economy though, and it'll actually be my first flight on a Dreamliner, really excited. Question: when will you be posting your #shorts review(s) and cruises, which I saw on community posts a while ago?
At least one of the cruises will be edited in the coming weeks and posted soon after (interrupting the Thailand series). I've been just too busy to focus on a format for the cruise videos, but am forcing myself to do it this month since I actually just took another cruise lol. As for the #shorts... I follow a lot of other creators and I'm just not yet convinced (as I expected to be) that they are worth the effort at this point, so for them, unless proven valuable before then I probably won't get to them before the summer.
@@tfft Thank you for the reply. It makes sense that a you aren’t convinced that #shorts are worth it, especially for a channel like yours, with very detailed reviews. Good luck with the cruises, looking forward to them.
Tbh I go for whichever one has a decent seat in an open area. They don’t have much to offer so best just to find a comfortable spot to sit. Enjoy your trip 🗺️
Yes I agree Eva is very good comparable to SQ. I was on their business class from LAX to SIN in January this year. Then from SIN to TAIPEI in March n TAIPEI to LAX on April 3. D only complain is they do not hv up to date Cantonese movies. Service, food, etc excellent. Will be flying with them again
Absolutely spot on on their lounges. TPE is quite sad as lounges arrangements since none gives apron views, but BR lounges in TPE are really sad. Completely out of place with their onboard quality. The BR BKK lounge is instead much nicer to me. Anyways, the B777s are good birds, flew to LHR via BKK 2 weeks ago in PY outbound and Y back, managed to sleep in both. Seats are comfy and food decent. B787 are being fitted with PY later in 2024 and B777 will get new J seats like the B787 later on.
Was just in the CI lounge in TPE a few days ago and was shocked how much better it was than EVA. Granted, it was like sitting in a windowless cave, but the food on offer was fantastic! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I think premium economy on a wide body should be a no brainer nowadays. If done right business class can be seen as first class & premium economy can be essentially business class. Not sure what they could do for economy, outside of having at least 34 inches of legroom and setback monitors across the whole cabin.
For me it depends on the specific type of PE seat. Some of them are very restrictive around the knees to the point where I can’t cross my legs because of the very deep armrests- in which case I’d just prefer economy with an empty seat next to me (which I wish more carriers would allow you to buy tbh).
@@tfft This is true. I would imagine some business class seats aren't that great. I am speaking in general & assuming an airline cared more about the customer experience and loyalty than profit.
Hmmmmm… I know he’s a pilot, but if I was a pax on that flight I’m not sure how I’d feel lol. I’m sure there are at least 3 other pilots on board and he wouldn’t be doing much actual manual flying- but I’d prefer to have the pilot that flies everyday instead of the CEO lol.
@@tfft He had been flying in the B777 cockpit for years when he was in EVA Air, and he’s got the license for A320 to A350 He flew the the company’s first A321 Neo and A350 from Germany and France back to Taiwan
Is the wine free for business class? meaning we can order anytime we want? Is it the same for food also? I flew with Japan airline and they are unlimited
@@tfft I would appreciate any suggestion!!! I am really in doubt... since it will be "my first time" 🤭 (a LONG awaited one!) I'd like to start from a good flight (since it is quite long distance) in a "GOOD" Business Class (also to have best chance to fight off jet lag)... besidea Qatar, Etihad, Eva Air, JAL or Ana which are also Your best suggestions?? 🙏🙏🙏
Singapore, Air France, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines and Emirates (A380 flights only) should be added to your list. If you’re willing to be a bit creative with your itinerary I’d also say Oman Air. From all of your list and mine, I’d be more than happy to just choose the cheapest of the lot.
Pick a walkable city and don’t over plan it feeling the need to visit every attraction in one trip. Set aside at least 1/3 of your time (personally I’d do more) just for walking, visiting cafes, people watching, etc. Never feel guilty for ‘missing’ something- there’s always next time.
@@tfft I wasn't referring to the business seats. I should have been clearer. Take a look at Premium Economy and economy on their higher density 777s. PE got rid of leg rests and economy is in a 3-4-3 configuration. I'm looking forward to your Thailand hotel reviews.
Yes economy is painful, I fly twice a year to Bkk from Heathrow, and over the 12 hours I must stand at the back of the plane for 3 hours over three different times, my legs hurt so much in economy, I might just fly once a year and stay longer and go business on my next trip in November
@@tfft again that was 15 years ago. I am very happy to hear of the progress. I went after SARS. And remember people wearing masks and assuming it was because of medical concerns. Finding out, it was due to the terrific stench of the sewers. Hope that’s been worked on as well.
HI Kevin say you are not sponsord by anyone but can you please tell how you get so many miles from avianca or any airlines? I looked most of your payments were made by points.
Points earned from credit card spend as well as credit card sign up bonuses and frequent flier miles earned from actual cash flights. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I’ve always wondered if the 787’s business class seat was better then the 777’s business class seat. I feel that EVAs 777s business class and premium economy could use an update.
BR has always THE BEST TRANSPACIFIC BUSINESS CLASS in my humble opinion. however not until April 27 LAX-TPE-LAX Starlux Inauguration flight my entire concept and option changed. highly recommend please experience TAIWAN 3RD carrier Starlux IATA code JX just to name few items on board their AB350-900 24 inch high quality resolution quick speed screen. high end Bric's amenities over night kit. Super High quality comfortable pajama free high speed internet and wireless charging. extermly Comfortable high quality Loro Piana blanket. manual operation slid door enchanted pivacy. unfortunately TPE-LAX-TPE are the only route at current since 26Apr. by end of the year expect add SFO to the map.
When Starlux’s fares descend back down to earth, I’ll be thrilled to try them out… but a brand new transpacific airline coming in as the most expensive option in most cases doesn’t really leave a good first impression. Thanks for watching 🩴
@@tfft For few hundred dollars more one can experience new AB350-900 Starlux make no mistake BR does had great in-flight service and amenities as well unfortunately their 777 abousulty out dated. I flew Starlux 27April Inauguration LAX-TPE-LAX business class what a perfect experience. except ground staff's total chaos doesn't even know TSA-PRE CHECK . prehap due to Starlux management zero preparation with TSA.
Airlines need to opt in to participate (and pay for) Pre-Check integration. While I’m sure they’ll have it eventually, I’m not surprised it wasn’t setup on day one- many airlines also simply choose not to participate.
Tried them last weekend in business, for me a very good airline but not as good as SQ. First leg was a 787 and was very good., 2nd leg on a A333.. Crew and food were good, but cabin was totaly outdated. Angled flat seats in 2-2-2 (same seats as SQ had in those old A333). Thats not good for a 5h flight
All true, but let's not forget that even SQ was flying those A333s until 2021. EVA currently has 12 A330s active with 18 787s still on order. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
@@tfft The thing is: I think they have only 2 A333 with that old cabin, the other ones have a newer cabin with full flat seats and much better IFE. They use those newer ones and 777s on shorter flights 1-3 hours, but the old one on a 5h flight.
Great review as always. Food looked only fair in my Aisian airline experience. EVA is a solid if sometimes boring airline. The TPE lounge has always been so so. Interesting that in both EVA reviews you barely mention the crew. Totally agree about the shades of green older cabins. Hopefully Starlux will push them to be better. Bags arriving so late is really terrible. Austrian should be ashamed. I will never fly them again based on your experience. Leaving with so few bags is totally unacceptable. The lack of accountability is close to criminal.

@@tfft just CI itself a tad... dangerous historically. But their A350 is a beautiful bird. If u ever pop up in town, lemme know!
Hey, great video! Taiwanese carriers are a great choice to fly with. I wish you would review starlux or China airlines. But, keep it up!
I flew China Airlines yesterday… does that count for anything? 🤣
@@tfft yeah it does! I'll look forwards to the starlux review!
Hi Kevin.....quick question...do or did you use some form of tracker in your luggage to enable you to locate it....if so which one...cheers.
Apple AirTags. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
It’s announced that former EVA boss and Starlux Founder, Chang Kuo Wei will pilot the first flight of Starlux A350 from Taiwan to LA on 26/4
Hmmmmm… I know he’s a pilot, but if I was a pax on that flight I’m not sure how I’d feel lol. I’m sure there are at least 3 other pilots on board and he wouldn’t be doing much actual manual flying- but I’d prefer to have the pilot that flies everyday instead of the CEO lol.
@@tfft He had been flying in the B777 cockpit for years when he was in EVA Air, and he’s got the license for A320 to A350
He flew the the company’s first A321 Neo and A350 from Germany and France back to Taiwan
First! Hello!
Thanks for being one of the first!
@@tfft Btw can you fly Singapore Airlines very short a350 route from sin-kul
@@tfft thanks for making nice videos to!
Is the wine free for business class? meaning we can order anytime we want? Is it the same for food also? I flew with Japan airline and they are unlimited
Yes, I don’t know of any business classes that aren’t free/unlimited for food & drink. Thanks for watching 🩴
@@tfft i think I phrase it wrong, what I mean is if there is a free dine/wine on demand
Thanks
Thank you 🙏
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Hi, do you think A350 are more quiet than 777-300? Thanks.
Not a matter of me thinking, it is a fact that the A350 is quieter inside.
@@tfft by a lot?
Hey Kevin, do you have any plans to try out China Airlines business class too?
When the opportunity arises I sure will, but I did just fly them in economy. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Thank you ✈️
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
😅😅 I need the "best" business class from Italy to Japan for my next VERY LONG AWAITED trip next year...😅😅😅
You’re kinda spoilt for choice with Japan as your destination. I could list 10 worthy contenders off the top of my head! Good luck planning!
Whats your advice if I travel abroad first time?
Pick a walkable city and don’t over plan it feeling the need to visit every attraction in one trip. Set aside at least 1/3 of your time (personally I’d do more) just for walking, visiting cafes, people watching, etc. Never feel guilty for ‘missing’ something- there’s always next time.
I wish the food on my EVA flights were incredible. The meals ranged from meh to inedible. The 777s are also very cramped for a 12+ hour flight.
I’m not sure how anyone could consider this reverse herringbone seat cramped… but ok 😅 Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Welcome to Taiwan!
Thanks very much 🙏🏻
Do you design the seat maps for your videos?
Yea I create them myself.
Did you got your bags. I need to know the end of this saga… 1:37 never mind. 😂
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
@@tfft of course, i love your videos.
I used to take sfo to tpe and to sgn my final stop. But now there is no stop flight Vietnam airline sfo to sgn 16hr flight.
Sure, but VN charges insane fares for the pleasure of flying an average business class product lol. I’d still pick EVA any day.
What day was this filmed on?
December 2022. Date is always on the boarding pass graphics. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I guess EVA has improved their food. I flew them about 15 to 18 years ago. The food in J Class was oily and tasteless. Much like the food in Taiwan!
Taiwan is foodie heaven. Your opinions about the food there seem to be very very outdated lol.
I’m guessing you didn’t watch my 787 video… lol.
Your video answered my question! 😁
BR has always THE BEST TRANSPACIFIC BUSINESS CLASS in my humble opinion.
however not until April 27 LAX-TPE-LAX Starlux Inauguration flight
my entire concept and option changed.
highly recommend please experience TAIWAN 3RD carrier Starlux IATA code JX
just to name few items on board their AB350-900
24 inch high quality resolution quick speed screen.
high end Bric's amenities over night kit.
Super High quality comfortable pajama
free high speed internet and wireless charging.
extermly Comfortable high quality Loro Piana blanket.
manual operation slid door enchanted pivacy.
unfortunately TPE-LAX-TPE are the only route at current since 26Apr. by end of the year expect add SFO to the map.
When Starlux’s fares descend back down to earth, I’ll be thrilled to try them out… but a brand new transpacific airline coming in as the most expensive option in most cases doesn’t really leave a good first impression. Thanks for watching 🩴
@@tfft For few hundred dollars more one can experience new AB350-900 Starlux
make no mistake BR does had great in-flight service and amenities as well
unfortunately their 777 abousulty out dated.
I flew Starlux 27April Inauguration LAX-TPE-LAX business class what a perfect experience.
except ground staff's total chaos
doesn't even know TSA-PRE CHECK .
prehap due to Starlux management zero preparation
with TSA.
Airlines need to opt in to participate (and pay for) Pre-Check integration. While I’m sure they’ll have it eventually, I’m not surprised it wasn’t setup on day one- many airlines also simply choose not to participate.
First!
Thanks for being one of the first!
keep it up

Tried them last weekend in business, for me a very good airline but not as good as SQ.
First leg was a 787 and was very good.,
2nd leg on a A333..
@@tfft The thing is:
I think they have only 2 A333 with that old cabin, the other ones have a newer cabin with full flat seats and much better IFE. They use those newer ones and 777s on shorter flights 1-3 hours, but the old one on a 5h flight.
Hi Kevin, how much you paid?
Always in the description. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

To be fair I think it’s kinda hard to make beef tendon and tripe look like world class food, despite the great flavors 😅 Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
@@tfft it’s not just that. The food overall is just eh. Keep up the great work!
Good video but it would be better if you, @tfft , talk less and display some texts in your clips.

I recently onboard Eva business class from Taipei to Paris and it sucked. Worst experience ever especially for food
Insightful.
The food isn’t very good in lounge and been like that for years.
