*This battery reconditioning program exceeded my presumptions. It worked on any drill battery, several AA and AAA batteries, **batery.repair** and any camera battery. The steps are simple and the act itself is exciting to do. No matter what type of battery you`ve got, it is sure to function again!*
Hi Warren, you helped me with my civic a couple of years back which was greatly appreciated. I am curious why you are still working with individual sticks rather than just charging the entire pack (grid charging) as others are suggesting.
On my Prius I'm doing the same on my Prius, I may rig up a fan to keep it even cooler than the fan that comes with it. Cause the sales in the middle of the ones that usually go bad on the Prius
Thanks for the informative video. I just bought a citrus Insight like yours and was interested in how to work on the battery myself. I may install a charge/discharge harness and condition the entire pack at once. Did you find any “bad” cells? Do you think that checking the individual sleeves of cells achieved better results? Thanks again.
I have a 2001 Insight I bought this summer and now as the weather has turned colder which usually from my experience triggers weakened batteries near failure to die. The IMA and engine light on mine came on yesterday so I'm looking into the cheapest way to get the most from this system while learning the ins and outs of hybrids. Is there a way to use a lithium ion replacement battery pack or is that out of the capabilities of this system? Also, can anyone provide a reconditioning service of my current battery cells if I mail them, at a price in comparison to purchasing new cells that is worth considering?
People have changed it to lithium, however, you are going to need to basically re-engineer the car electronics. Avoid. If you go through all that trouble, might as well go all electric. Check out bumblebee battery (google them). They can replace the batteries for much less than OEM. Also, look up trickle chargers for Honda Insights to keep the battery in good condition if the car sits around a while.
@@josephfilm73 I bought a battery from "BurglarBee Battery" and after 3 years and 3 months the IMA came on and BurglarBee said he would "help"! Nil, from them. Not even, "Hey, take your battery out and bring it in and I will look at it....." I live 50 miles away....I have removed the car battery Neg cable for 1 minute and put it back on. Started the car and idled it for 9 minutes at about 3k rpms. The SOC climbs back up and has kept the IMA off for months IF I drive the car on most days. The IMA light will return if you just drive around town. After a year and a half of this I bought a used battery pack for 300 bucks and built the grid charger with a 2-bulb system for discharging. Meanwhile, the grid charger has kept my BurglarBee Battery ALIVE. But, I keep my extra pack maintained in case the BurglarBee Battery goes to hell. I was told by the owner of BurglarBee that grid charging doesn't work, that was the reason I never tried it before. Now they offer a 700 buck "plan" that could take them a month to "fix" your broken BurglarBee Battery.
all my battery cells have about 3.5 volts averaged. so 6 cells/3.5volts give me 0.58 volts on each cell and minimal voltage should be 1.2 volts each. How do I revive the nihm batteries? do I use a 12v trickle charger or 12 dc charger or can I still use the balance charger to revive it and recondition it?
recently i had to replace the 12v battery in my 2010 honda insight hybrid car.since then i discovered a problem with the ima battery.if im driving around town in slow traffic the ima battery fills up to the top on dash symbol and all of a sudden it empties again.i can feel the surge of power while the battery is emptying.any idea what the problem is.thank you.
Yes the battery is going through a cycling procedure. That happens when the voltages have a variance among the sticks. Usually a sign that one of your sticks is getting weak, and unfortunately your battery is about to give up the ghost
About to plunk down the cash for the charger/conditioner, but it would be good to hear how your pack is doing post conditioning before ordering it. I have a local shop that will do the cycling for $600, but no warranty after it’s done (unless, of course, I also buy new sticks to replace any thrashed ones). So, what’s the verdict??
Andrew Kehn I would just sell the car if I were you. The battery pack reconditioned didn't last that long and I sold the car months later. This early generation Civic and inside hybrids have tons of unresolved issues
There's should be some bad sticks. Which will take less mah.like 2000 or so.. One's that take over 6000mah and hold charge is good sticks. Also brand new Chinese sticks are okay option, will last 4 years.
Tesla Fan Does it still show a CEL? Because I think lots of states might fail inspection until you resolve the CEL which would force you to replace the battery.
Have to disagree with you a bit, here.... had 137000 on my 2002 Insight before battery went. I bought a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid 5MT, battery replaced by dealer (under warranty) at 110000 miles in 2010, now this is a secondary car, has 256000 miles, and just starting to get IMA trouble on this battery. And I live in an hot climate. So, I'll be rebuilding my pack, and replacing the weaker sticks for the nominal expense. Heck, at this point still getting 52+ mpg w/ a weak pack, this car is paying ME to own and drive it.
Any update on how long this worked for? I have a gen 2 civic I have 2 extra batterys I want to build one good one out of the three I understand charging and discharging them but how do I test each stick to make sure it's good does that charger do a load test?
After having messed with a bunch of hybrids my recommendation would be: if you plan on keeping the car replace with a new battery, if you plan on Flipping or selling the car then just rebuild it with used sticks from other batteries
@@JohnCalebWarren thanks that's what I plan to do I thought it would be easier to flip the car ( I buy cars at auctions and sell them) but I will never buy a hybrid again unless it's a Prius and at very low cost

He says to use good insulated gloves and works with dish gloves, I love it lol.

Fantastic and very informative, the best on RUclips thank you.

this is a fantastic informative video .,good job man ..wanted to know if those sticks are uniform or standard to all year models?
If the same thing that chargers and did chargers do... like the Prolong system? So you don’t have to pull out the batteries?
How's the car doing after your conditioning of the sticks? Is it still stable?
2:47 mine didn’t have a piece of grass in it. I must have a newer model. 😅😂
All jokes aside, good video. 😎👍🏼

Still a nice car, if you disconnect the BCM and run it on gasoline only. Gets 60+ mpg hwy. Dont need the IMA.

you pick it up in california?
Nickel batteries get some 18650 in there.
Where exactly are the fuses to reset IMA light?
Under the hood, ECU fuse or IMA, or the easiest way is just disconnect the battery for a minute or so
If i had a dollar for every time he said connector i could pay someone else to do this
