I live in the United States and a few years ago one of my neighbors got bitten by a mosquito and he died a couple months later from some illness the mosquito caused. Didn't realize that something like that could happen in the US.
So sad. It can happen anywhere, but if just more common in certain countries. Even here in Aus in certain places you need to careful, its the stagnant water you need to watch out for. We have Ross River virus, and I'm sure there's a few more I can't think if right now.
