I loved hearing about the very real dilemma of having to change topics during a PhD. What it takes to accomplish a PhD is still a big mystery to mainstream society. I graduated from my PhD almost 8 years ago and the highs and lows Courtney described still seem so fresh in my mind.

Of all the Ph.D. journey videos that I have watched recently, this is probably the best: insightful, engaging, informative, humorous...just excellent from start to finish. Thank you for sharing your story, Courtney.

I never doubted that you would achieve your goal. Congratulations! I look forward to read your dissertation. I remember mentioning the minimal proportion of DuSable's sculpture. Perhaps someday there will be a full body sculpture executed by a Haitian / American sculptor.

Some people drift into PhDs, hoping to find there occupation that nothing else can provide. Others, and I believe these to be a minority, are born with a need to know, understand, and explain to the world. Among them we have the leading few who have contributed eminently to the advancement of knowledge across the disciplines. The rest of PhDs are mom and dad's dearest kids, intelligent in their own right, but not born truth-seekers. Unless we all alchemists and believe in transforming base substances onto gold, please do not tell me that many PhDs make original contributions to knowledge. Somebody tell me, how are you a PhD when you have no philosophical doctrine to profess?

Very inspirational talk. Out of curiosity, is Haiti classified as Asian in America? The speaker and family picture look like someone from African descent.

@@tobehonest4833 The question was "is Haiti" as a country classified as Asian. Is not the same as "are Haitians". Get yourself a better job.

@@lovelyxtyxty8261 the speaker kept saying Haitian so I repeated it. Haitian. Haiti. No need to get hostile, cyber gangster. 😂

What benefits has to spend this much Money and Time to get so called PhD, when after You end it, the Salary of Yours won't get any higher? nor some Jobs even gonna tell You "We will not Hire You, because of Over Education". Then just go and start to wash plates in some kind of supermarket, or so, in the Times of Flying Hyper Sonic Rockets around the East of Europe.
