This is such a fantastic video. Thank you for creating this! It's informative and explained very clearly. Your animations, diagrams, and examples of usage are excellent, and help a lot with understanding,
I'm amazed at the transparency MOS provides when accessing the sideways ROMs, and also the modularity they afford. I had no idea it was all so well thought out.
I'm awaiting arrival of my first ever Electron and ElkSD64 from eBay, so I'll be rewatching this when they arrive!
Thanks again, and keep up the great work. I hope to see more content from you.

Great review. Just pulled my Electron from the attic and can't wait for the updated Elk128SD to come in stock which looks even better!

This is an excellent review! Clear, informative and detailed. And I've never seen anyone type so fast on an Electron 🤣

@@RobBob555 no, he can type whereas you hunt and peck. No need to be jealous you still type like a kid.

Nice videos. Very clean. I’d love see one on memory usage and how people made effective usage of the machines by bypassing MOS and DFS working areas etc. I think your slide animation and presentation approach would show that very well.

Thanks for the video. I’m thinking of picking up a Electron (having sold mine circa ‘88) and will be after a device like this.

Excellent review and I learnt some things. I'm thinking of getting one of these and this is actually a great guide making good use of it.

Are you going to do a video on the ElkSD-Plus 1?
There's also an ElkSD128 that has a D9 joystick port that might interest.

Hi - thanks for the comment. Yes - I've been planning it for a while and have done some preparation for it. Unfortunately, though, my weekends and evenings have been taken up with other things recently and I haven't had time to work on it. I'm hoping to get those out of the way so I can get back to it.
I am tempted to get an ElkSD 128, too, although I mostly use the Plus 1 + ElkSD Plus 1 these days, so I'm not sure how much use it would get.

Very informative video, and something I didn’t know existed. I had toyed with the idea of using an arduitape loader for file management, but that doesn’t have the benefit of additional sideways ram. Does the Elk SD Plus 1 version work the exact same way?

      Thanks for the comment!
From what I can see, underneath it works different at a technical level: the interface to the SD card reader is different (to the Electron) and the way the RAM for the MMFS software works is done by overlaying some RAM in the same bank as the ROM.
From a user's perspective, however, it works pretty much identically. The big difference is that you don't have the flash ROM bank for the RH Plus 1 utilities ROM: you get that, instead, by changing the ROM built into the Plus 1 for jgharston's AP6 ROM (which isn't included but is available in other ways).
I'll do a video about this when I get my next one done, which is taking a long time and involves using an oscilloscope badly!

Least Significant Byte thank you for the explanation :) Good luck with the O-scope, last time I used one, it died and has been sitting under my bench for more than a decade now 😂

Do those old Cumana drives work?

    • @lsbyte
      @lsbyte  3 года назад

Oh yes, both of them. The BBC was the first computer I used with a disc drive (not that I owned one) and, for me, a 5¼" drive on a BBC running DFS is the proper sound a disc drive should make!
