  • How has mental illness affected you? My brother had early onset schizophrenia which developed at age 17. My mothers schizophrenia developed in her 30s. We didn't notify authorities so this is what we did to get by. We stole clothes from clothing bins and collected trash from the streets.

Not for me - but because someone you know, love or care for may need you, but be too afraid to ask for your help. Depression can make you feel (or feel like you want to be) invisible. We’re hiding, we’re trying, and we’re barely surviving - and we need to know we’re not alone.
By sharing my videos, you are helping me connect with those who desperately need a connection. The author Johann Hari named his best-selling book about depression ‘Lost Connections,’ because that’s what depression does - it isolates you. Every new connection brings new hope, and who knows? Sharing my story might be the thing that leads someone to ask for help or even saves their life. You could create that connection, just by clicking ‘share.’

Never Ever feel ashamed for trying to take care of yourself and the people you love ... Aslong as you're not hurting anyone in the process, you do what you need to do... I applaud you for not giving up 👍

Schizophrenia runs in my family my uncle was diagnosed with it.
My dad and uncle were very very naughty teenagers and did very bad things
My uncle was one of those kids who took drugs and what my dad says is that drugs is what triggered his schizophrenia
I am terrified to take any sort of drug “marijuana” as an example as a 18 year old girl I’m terrified to touch any sort of drug.
My uncle is not in a very good state and I never want to be like that ever.

Kudos to you and your mother for holding it together. You seem to have such a wonderful bond❤️
No you shouldn’t feel ashamed. People dive into those bins to support their drug habits....You and your mother were just trying to staying a float 😢
May I ask was it just you and your mother that moved back here to Oz? I may have missed something but I was just curious as to where your other bothers got to.?
I love the way you presented this as I read and understand you filmed most of it.
You approached this with such compassion and sensitivity and I look forward to seeing what happens next x

I understand what's it's like being a kid with a parent with schizophrenia. My mother was finally diagnosed when I was 8 yrs old. Her illness and the thought process it caused made it so difficult to even have conversations with her at times. With medication she was better but only limited as her disordered thought processes were never addressed and therefore always sprinkled with levels of paranoia and odd behaviours. My heart goes out to you and just know that you're being an inspiration for many others who have lived poor and with mental illness in the family. There is hope and a light at the end of the tunnel. Brightest of blessings for a brilliant future, filled with love, laughter and prosperity. May the universal energies provide all the assistance necessary. Blessed Be 🔮

My Grandfather got diagnosed with schizophrenia when my Dad was 16, my Dad got diagnosed with it 4 years ago (when we found out my Grandfather died) and he got sent away. Unfortunately, whilst in the hospital my Grandfather never got better, but my Dad did, he improved massively and has been back home for about 2 and a half years now and takes his medication regularly. We found out it was genetic and both cases were bought on by trauma. Now i’m 16 and my friends always wonder why i’m so careful and make sure people around me are safe. I’m terrified of falling into what my Dad and Grandfather did but i get a lot of support from my family and others who know what i’ve been through, which is very helpful. I really appreciate you making these videos and getting your story out because it really does make a huge difference ❤️
(also sorry for the long paragraph but i know how important it is to share your story so other people can see the signs and know what to do to get help 😊)

The music makes this unwatchable, plus looking away from the camera, plus does social health care exist in NZ ? That way the mother would have been able to stabilise. The brother too, not many stay in long term anymore. Cannabis can be lethal in connection to psychosis, I’ve seen it happen. Yet he used it even though he has a genetic predisposition to it. FN stupid or something.
