I love the idea of efficiency over extra physical effort being the strategy you used. Excellent idea for a series as I often wondered "how the hell" while watching your hike. I picked up a bunch of tips already from this, thank you!
Hey Mr. Happy Farley. I just wanted to drop by and say that this video as well as your Breaking Camp video really helped me a ton this year, 2021. I just finished my thru hike of the PCT in 3 months, 26 days (April 17 - August 9th. way slower than you) with trailname "Ghost". I used these videos as a part of my mantra to keep me hiking at a strong pace. (Hike slow, hike all day, don't stop!) And your Breaking Camp video helped me have confidence and understanding to use my MLD Burn, Borah Bivy, and 1/8" Foam Pad. Thank you very much and I appreciate you!
Imagine, Go slow to walk fast, who would have thought. I watched your entire through hike. Even though I saw you do it, its still a wonder how many miles a day you were able to walk. I get it now ! Thanks for sharing, I'm still in awe at how far you walked on the first day. Your mental attitude was amazing. JT. from Oregon
Love your videos, Farley. I remember one of your video somewhere in middle of PCT. You said to take a comfort paces and not focus on the daily mileage. End up finished a quite miles with kind easy on that day. That really make sense for a long distance hiking strategy. Thanks for sharing ! keep up your channel going please.
Thanks MD! That was an important day for me, that was when I really internalized that this hiking style is not only more enjoyable but faster too. I plan on being more active on youtube for a bit before I get back to hiking later this spring.
This video could not have come at a better time for me! I'm just starting to up my weekly training mileage in preparation for a harder/longer trip I have planned, so this was incredibly helpful. Thanks!
Its like biking,.....steady pace all day slow up the hills, at the end of the day sure you were biking for longer than you expected, but you never really pushed yourself to exhaustion try to keep that lactic acid from stressing your muscles.....the next day no pain...do it again.
I am really enjoying the series, your approach is really intriguing and I have learnt a lot studying your thru hike. I would apprecaite any tips on preparing and training your body to keep going 15 hours a day, day after day ?
Good to hear from you Farley but nobody is going to walk for 36 hours and 118 miles as you did , not many people even finish close to 78 days as you. You and your girlfriend still haven't had a decent vacation since lasts years smoke cut it short , are you going to come back up here ? Since your completion I went out and bought some equipment to hike this April when I turn 67 . Starting at Packwood Lake and see If I can make Elk Pass in the Goat Rocks , still a lot of snow up there.
She's going for a thru hike of the PCT this year, I'm probably gonna hike with her for a bit then head off and do some hikes on my own. You're doing the goat rocks in april?? That sounds wild, stay safe will and have fun
@@willardwooten9582 Her trail name was bird but I think she wants to start without one this year. She's planning on filming but instead of uploading along the way, she's looking to make one longer video of the whole hike. once it happens I'll let you know!
This is EXACTLY the series I've been looking for. Less gear, more how. Thanks!
Glad you're liking it!

I'm glad you've gotten something out of this already, more ideas to come!

Great info, this is why I started hiking with a fanny pack, I could access more without stopping.
