    New to sailing, I bought a 170 at an auction. I never figured out what to do with the tiller when I needed to move around. That's a great idea. By the way, did you know that the best way to fix those cracks is with methacrylate? Just make a V along the crack with a Dremel and drill holes at each end. The mend will be stronger than the boat itself. It dries fast and is paintable.

      Yes, the procedure you describe is the right approach. The 170 is a beautiful little boat. Enjoy!

    Very nice. I have a postal box in the USA but due to corona virus our border is closed. We would usually cross every couple weeks. Lots of stuff is cheaper in the USA but there is some items that are cheaper in Canada. I will have to look into swimming ladder costs here. FYI, we are 6 miles from the USA and can just barely see the Pacific ocean from our house. Never been to Texas but figure it is HOT.

      Yeah, but it's not so bad when you're on the lake, and it's just one more excuse to have another cold one!

    Do you have 2 pulleys on the end of your boom? Trying to figure out how you have your boom up and still be able to pull the main sheet tight to the end.

      The block and tackle for the mainsheet is the standard that comes with this boat, 4:1 I think (if that is your question. I have one pulley at the end of the boom that the topping lift passes through. This holds the boom up when the main is lowered, but goes slack once the main is hoisted. Not sure if this answers your question...

    Hey Bruce,
    I am also a hunter 170 owner, just begging for disappointment with hull cracks. What do you use to fix cracks? I tried JB Weld pvc, but am having issues, cracked in STL cold weather (in garage).
    Have you tried fiberglass?

    • @bruceogletree7995
      @bruceogletree7995  3 года назад

      For the pre-2005 units, you are dealing with a plastic hull, which requires a plastic mender. Plexus is the brand recommended in the manual.

      Also used your mast raising system, worked like a charm. Thanks

    What type of screws did you use to screw into the fiberglass and foam?

    • @bruceogletree7995
      @bruceogletree7995  2 года назад

      Long ones that would go through the outer and inner layers, with holes drilled only large enough to get the screws in.

      @@bruceogletree7995 did you apply any caulk or export to the screws?
