Great instructions - thanks for making this! There's nothing better than actually seeing someone do something in a logical way. I recently bought a 2001 H170 and it does have a few cracks here and there. Some look to have been repaired properly, a couple that look like they were a bit half a...attempted repairs. I've started to repair and re-repair a couple myself. I've read a bunch of alarming forum stuff about the cracking but it doesn't look to me like it can't be dealt with, at least on the one I have, but we'll see. Anyway, appreciate you sharing these tips. ( Great looking cushions btw!! 🙂 )

Thanks for the video. I bought the same boat to learn to sail. I went out on jne trip so far that ended in me swimming back to the dock. Its great to see some insight and some action shots of your rig. Thanks for sharing.

Glad you made it back to sure safely! Hope the boat faired as well. The good thing about disastrous outings is that you come away with a good story to tell!

Bruce - thx for the excellent video regarding the single handed mast step on a Hunter 170.
I don’t have the rear mast mount shown in your video.
I can easy create it, can you tell me what the material and height dimension of the rear mast mount are
    on your boat?
Thx - Tony a fellow Hunter 170 owner.

Bruce, I am going to look at a pre-owned Hunter 170. Some people say the plastic ones aren't worth having due to cracking. Looks like a perfect boat for me to sail a few times per year. Any words of advice? Thanks

Thank you so much for this! Are those special stay tensioners? Ours on our Hunter 18 do not seem to work that way and I love that you can tension after the mast is already up! Make more videos please!

Thanks for the comments. Yes, those stay tensioners are not stock, but they can be purchased from duckworks.com/small-7-hole-quick-release-shroud-levers/

Hey Bruce, so I split the plastic in front of the motor mount. It’s about a 5” split and only in the plastic area, however with the motor on it opens up like a mouth. Since Hunter won’t talk about these boats, should I just back fill inside the crack and seal it? Any recommendations on what to fill with so it holds? Thanks!!
