I am actually on the same, project of restoration a Formosa 47 which was sink and all electric and electonics must be changed (nothing runs) and of course I will renove all with Raspberry Pi from tip to top, but my knowledge of computers and sisems are limited, and DIY is hard, but of course will be a plasure to share our common investigations and knowings about those matters. The shutdown-feature comes with the MacArthur Hat. To enable the feature you need in addition to the hat a so-called power-module. From the shops-page: "Optional 12V to 5V DC/DC converter for the MacArthur HAT to power the Raspberry Pi and its peripherals (including touch screens up to 10 inches). When you turn off the main switch of your ship, OpenPlotter will shut down safely. OpenPlotter will start cleanly when the main switch is turned on again."

Thank you so much. Actually, my boat is a Comfortina 32 from 86 with outdated electronics as well. In the near future I’ll upgrade to a nmea2000 bus and add some accessories to it. Boat refits are fun, besides sailing them 😁

What model pi are you using? I have been told that there are problems with pi5 and Open Plotter.
Hi @scottphillips8767 I'm using a RPI4 with 8GB RAM. Unfortunately I didn't had the opportunity to test it with a pi5
