Eggers has become part of a generation of directors where i have to see everything they do. He's so detail focused its almost overwhelming but it's so effective at world building
@SwissCheese667 Jeremy Saulnier, Jeff Nichols, Park Chan Wook, Taylor Sheridan, Denis Villeneuve. I really enjoyed Olivia Wilde's Book smart, but haven't seen Don't Worry Darling yet, but I'm intrigued. Jim Mickle is super good as well. I'm sure there's tonnes I'm forgetting right now haha!
@@bennyjones2373 - ha, sorry! Hey maybe you'll disagree and you can let me know, but that movie was kind of a famous disaster, on screen and behind the camera.
Just left the theater 10 minutes ago. Holy crap, guys… Talk about a freaking masterpiece. Robert Eggers once again reminded me why he’s my favorite director. Absolutely blown away.
The end is, shall we say, bitter sweet. But less sweet than bitter, so I knew I had to spend some time away to digest it. Damn what a hard movie. Fantastic really. Flawless.
@@DavidPhilipMorin this movie needed to be at least 30 min longer. The beginning took its time ( the Thomas at the castle part ) , that part had good pacing.... which made the ending stand out much more on how rushed it felt.
Wish it was getting some noms with the major amount praise from early viewers/critics! Lots of bias for biopics & musicals over horror with the stronger performances unfortunately. Love this review & I can’t wait to see this! Eggers is incredible 🖤🎬
In the middle of Nosferatu I was already excited to see it again. I can't wait and I agree, it's definitely Eggers' most accessible work and it's my favorite. He cemented himself as my favorite working director with that.
Really looking forward to this one. Big fan of the 1922 Nosferatu & Dracula in general. Eggers has earned his place as one of the greatest directors working today. I absolutely adore all of his movies so far most notably "The VVitch" which is one of my all time favourites. I really love the fact all the promotion has kept the appearance of Nosferatu a secret. Such a rare treat to go onto a movie with such mystery surrounding it. Great review Coy!
I won’t spoil who it is either, but the villain Nosferatu… his actor is a natural tenor and had opera vocal training just for this film so that he could lower it an entire octave. He is basically delivering a lower bass profundo vocal performance here. It is truly unrecognizable from his other work. He sounds 60 years older than himself here. Truly incredible vocal performance.
I think this film is gonna show allot of people just how great of a director Robert Eggers is, hopefully in the future he will be amongst the names of Hitchcock and Kubrick.
Since it has gone on general release there are so many polarised reviews and comments now! From boring to terrifying, dreadful to exceptional. This sounds like an absolute must-see!
Ive always appreciated Eggers’ aesthetics but this movie ultimately fell flat for me for a lot of reasons. I’m generally not a fan of Bill Skarsgard (he’s not bad, just not scary), but I was impressed with how unrecognizable he was. I wish he was in the movie more instead of cutting back to Depp constantly. I feel like Eggers could’ve lingered in the castle much longer and experience the dread. Honestly, the only scene that really stuck with me was Thomas’ first encounter with Orlok. The 2nd half of the film just draaagged
Avoided this video review until I saw the movie, but holy hell I loved this movie and you so put it perfectly, this is a mood oil painting piece. I loved every moment of this film and it is Eggers' masterpiece! Love the review!
Nosferatu explores themes of sacrifice, and obsession. Lily-Rose Depp embodies 🦂Scorpio-like traits with her deep loyalty and willingness to surrender to evil for love-Count Orlok 🦇. Even lust. The chilling ship scenes echo the tension of “The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” blending dread with poetic tragedy🎄
I just saw tonight and the only thing I’ll say is, the movie is breathtaking in a nearly unsettling way. So much so that the moment the credits rolled in my theater, the ENTIRE theater sighed in unison, like we were all collectively holding in a breath.
Seeing this tonight. Its not a secret who's playing Count Orlock its been all over social media for months. Love Eggers film making style. Looking forward to seeing it.
“NOSFERATU 2024” PIE recipe: In a bowl take “Nosferatu (1922)” and crumble for five minutes. Spread evenly into a pie crust pan. In a large mixing bowl add: One whole Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” 1/2 cup of Anne Rice’s “Interview with the Vampire” and 1/4 cup of “The VVitch”. Blend until smooth. In a saucepan on medium heat melt: 1/2 a stick of old school Cradle of Filth. Stir in a heaping tablespoon of dried Shakespearean tongue, 1.5 teaspoon of Willem Dafoe and a dash of “The Exorcist”. Lower heat and simmer for two minutes. Slowly stir that mixture in with the ingredients in your mixing bowl. Pour the mixture into your prepared crust and chill in the freezer for 15-20mins. Remove from the freezer and sprinkle generously with Carpathian snow and garnish with plagued rat tails into the shape of a heptagram. Now you can slice it into a million pieces and serve to ravenous vampire fans across the nation. Enjoy!
Nosferatu is the only other movie I've seen that I've been so excited to watch, that I have read the actual book first. That is weird to say given how I have seen many other Dracula adaptations before this one. However, Robert Eggers is one of those directors whose attention to detail and artistic meticulousness is so great, it makes me interested in checking out the sources he pulls from. The only other book I read before seeing the movie was A Clockwork Orange
Definitely an Oscar worthy movie and will be nominated in a bunch of categories. Robert Eggers definitely proves himself that he's a top director in Hollywood. Also if you're brave enough to watch another horror movie and do a review it's The Substance 😁😅
@gregpolutanovich1774 it was probably just not for you, did you like his other projects?? This one has a similar tone and vibe to those ones, he is more a a character performance type director
While I don’t agree with Dune, I agree with everything else you’ve said. I’ve come to terms that Dune is simply not for me, but I love seeing everyone so excited about that franchise. Nosferatu is easily in my top 10 of the year. Thanks for your review!
I loved every minute of this film seen it today been anticipating this film all year I never seen the original 1922 film and this film reminded me of the old monster films like the early days of classic cinema this film had me engrossed and I loved the setting the time period all the characters I definitely want too view it again in my opinion it’s is my favorite film of 2024
I would have to say the movie was the best twisted love story I would have to categorize something like beauty and the beast mixed with a demon possession type story they were so captivating the ender of a curse or a lovers embrace depending on the way you look at it. It was something evil, but it was also the ending of that great evil that was pulling the darkness towards the light even in the end death must die it was awfully poetic and all the while Nicholas Holt is getting cucked words cannot properly do justice to how I feel about this movie it’s beyond incredible
Im not the biggest horror fan as theres so much rubbish out there, but I love when a good one comes out, and this one looks awesome, cant wait to see it. I remember studying the original in college 20 years ago and it fascinated me
Bill Skarsgard was great, and Orloks design was fantastic. I found it ironic that Emma Corrin was in this. She looked more like the OG Nosferatu in Deadpool and Wolverine.
God it was a masterpiece. And (spoiler alert stop reading if you haven’t seen it. But Skarsgard as Nosfaratu was even creepier then him as pennywise which is just amazing.
Yup! Gonna do two parts, I always do # of movies to year since 2010 (so this year will be top 24, with 24-11 as part 1 and then a top 10) Need to see about 8 more movies first!
I really want to see this, but people say it’s shocking, horrible and scary in parts and stays with you long after you leave the cinema. I’m too much of a wimp for that! lol
I loved the movie. Thought the acting was great, atmosphere was gripping and flowed well. I thought Nosferatu was scary but sometimes the CGI moments took me out of it, especially the scene where he was coming out of the coffin which didnt feel as impactful as if it would have been done practically. I didn't enjoy Johny Depp's daughters acting at all and something it felt like she was just a complete narcissist which left no real motivation for Hoults character to go through so much for her. They dont make movies like this these days and I'm appreciative that it was even made. I really enjoyed it.
Possibly my fave movie of the year ,late night with the devil is up there also ,split on the two rewatch shortly ,btw the substance was great then terrible imo for last 30 minutes

Awesome look at the film. To revisit a classic, is no easy feat. But to know how much passion went into making it, that alone says it all.
