It all started back at home, because I wasn't sure if I should even go on this tour, because of back pain... but I pushed through and quickly came another problem... a rainstorm. That extinguished the fraction of enthusiasm I had left. I waited in the car for an hour, and after it cleared up, I finally started approaching. My plan was to at least check out how much snow there's still left, and then I was going to decide if I should continue climbing. Well long story short...one thing led to another and eventually everything went to hell.
I truly admire your resilience! And even though you arrived at your day's destination, I think you made the wisest choice to go down. Not many people would have put their ego asside to make the right decision. Many people would have carried on and they would have encountered a big problem the next day. Don't let this experience discourage you! Your work is amazing! Thanks for sharing it 😉
This aliged more wth my own "rough & ready" scrambling , hiking ...on rocky "hills" nr. Vancouver full horrible tufted bushey "stuff" whilst on hols. AND this is normative 4 anyone (beating showers, darkness... etc ) in our own UK uplands too.. As you say always great experience when things don't go 2 plan. Forces re-org mentally , & 2 somewhow magically almost find those xtra energy reserves😅So, 4 me your best one yet not worst ==> keep 'em coming! 😃
You can say it happens now and then to those who go in the mountains all the time,no matter what day or weather is it...every week i start planning a whole weekend hike and it involves 1,2 or 3 friends..but when the weekend comes-1 cant go,second cant go,third...and often im alone, sitting home with all my stuff in front of me thinking where to go,do i want to go,to sleep here or there, what to do...and then i just snap back to reality and say to myself-why am i waisting time here on my bed if i could waste it in the mountains,on the views :) rain, wind, snow, fog whatever.. You still had a day out in the mountains and thats what i call a good day! A great one 💪🏼
😮😵💫 oh man ! that really was rough from the beginning through to the end! I would have been so discouraged by the mice poop riddled hut after the day you had! Well done for keeping your composure and deciding to turn around. Hope you were able to gain something from this adventure! Sending appreciation from New Zealand! 🙌🤙
Yeah, that mice poop was the final touch to this terrible day hahah. But I’m glad I decided to end the suffering and go home… sleeping with mice squeaking around you is the worst 🤢 Thank you, and greetings from Slovenia 🙌🇸🇮
There are days like these. Sometimes its better to abandon the mission and try another day. Mountain will be always here a experiences are what matters, stay safe brother
The amount of patience and will you have is crazyy🤩 and your decisions show how great of a climber you are, I don't think there are many others that are so experienced at such a young age. And yes we definitely enjoyed it more than you did😆
Thank you, much much appreciated! 🙏😊 It’s always the best kind of feeling when you push through difficulties! But I am looking forward to some more relaxing and enjoyable tours haha :)
Wow, your videos are absolutely incredible! I'm a huge fan of mountaineering, just like you, but I'm still too young to fully pursue it. Watching your adventures is so inspiring, and it fuels my passion for the mountains even more. Keep up the amazing work, and I can't wait to see more of your epic climbs!
Well That was something else! Didn't like the look of that descent, but knowing we're actually watching the video reassures me you made it down OK. The old school abseil brought back painful memories I can tell - glad you're aware of the basic old skills. Exciting stuff, but hope for a more relaxing Gideon next time. #staysafe
Thank you! The climbing itself was relatively easy, but because of all the problems I had, it just kept getting more and more mentally challenging… and that mice poop was the final touch to this miserable tour hahah. Yeah, I’m also looking forward to some more relaxing and enjoyable tours!
This was actually very interesting. I also have a tendency to push myself too hard (in cycling), but while in my case only the immune system suffers in your line of sport it could be fatal. So well done, you made the right choice.
Good call. I’d have done the same thing. Alternatively digging a snow cave for bivy to wait for the first reys off daylight is another option if you carry the right gear and the snow doesn’t turn out too slushy.
Uživaj in srečno še naprej.
Vsa čast! Pravilno si se odločil ... po dveh ali treh urah spanja je drug dan živa muka, ki je, bolj ko si v letih, še bolj izrazita ;) . Najvažneje je, da živ prideš domov, hribi počakajo ...
We’ve all had days like this…where we just aren’t feeling it, and make the (wise) decision not to continue, yet beat ourselves up about abandoning (and ever starting!)
I would love to explore Slovenia (actually thinking about going back to Triglav, climbing it from the north this time) and would like to know where you find these bivouacs. Is there a list somewhere?
What kind of rope do you bring for this tour? Can absolutely understand your reasoning. Had to abandon a tour as well, because I was unsure how I would feel after the first climb with the next to come, and had no rope with me to rappel.
my worst solo experience was on the 1st of january this year, it was -10C° and i was onsight soloing some sandstone towers in my home area the saxon swiss aka czech sandstone. i had already done 3 solos that day, and started to feel comfortable, so i stepped up the difficulty for the next one, its basically a splitter crack with a short overhanging crack and then a nice and relaxing slab crack at the end. i got up to the overhang and couldnt feel my hands and feet anymore. i was scared, and unable to downclimb. i knew the overhang was only 3 moves and then it gets alot easier, so i powerd through and managed to stay alive. not a good route for that weather :D also the ice in the back of the crack should have been a warning sign to a rockclimber without ice tools :D
Holy shit, that sound like a nightmare! Can’t even imagine the feeling you had when you weren’t sure if you’re gonna make it. I’m glad you made it out alive brother! ❤️ Btw. What was the difficulty?
How can you lose the only thing that’s keeping you attached to the wall haha… And even if I lost one, it’s not a problem since I can rappel back at any time.

Knowing when to quit is important skill. Always listen to your gut.
At least the view and Frutabela were nice. 😉
It is indeed one of the most important mountaineering skills!
There’s nothing better than a Frutabela when you’re starving and low on sugar 😋
it was eerie to see you climbing in the pitch black of night! still great vid

This was actually very interesting. I also have a tendency to push myself too hard (in cycling), but while in my case only the immune system suffers in your line of sport it could be fatal. So well done, you made the right choice.
Yeah, it’s important to push yourself, but if you go over the limit, you might do more harm than good.
It’s best to find a nice balance :)
I wanted to say that is a beautiful and clean bivuac until I saw the poop. Good job returning back.
Hahah yup, I had the same thought process from the time first seeing the bivouac and until the realization kicked in 🤣
Good call. I’d have done the same thing. Alternatively digging a snow cave for bivy to wait for the first reys off daylight is another option if you carry the right gear and the snow doesn’t turn out too slushy.
Yup, but I didn’t bring a shovel, or a sleeping pad… so it would be quite miserable haha.
Definitely a better and safer option to descend in the dark.

Yup, described it perfectly! 😅

The best sites for routes and bivouacs across slovenia is maPZS and Hribi.net 😊
Good luck on your trip & stay safe 🙌
@@andrazegart thank you, will do! :)
Zelo lepo bravo Andraž!!

Very unfortunate about the mice crap
I don’t even know how they manage to get up there… the bivouac is in the middle of a cliff.

What was the biuvac called?
Bivak v severni steni Storžiča.
(Accessible only via climbing routes)
Kje pa je ta bivak?
Če se ne motim je to bivak v severni steni Storžiča. Do njega se pride samo po plezalnih smereh. Zato pa je žal v slabem stanju.
