Girl! Meal planning helped me cut down on so much food waste! Sitting down at the end/beginning of the week, planning a meal Monday-Sunday, then going out shopping immediately after. By planning meals I knew exactly what I had to use up, and then what I had to buy on top of that. It cut down on costs too!
valerie - valereads yes! I have a Pinterest board for recipes, but another board for my weekly meals that I pin like 5-6 ideas to each week. Then I just shop right after. So cost effective.
I always take a picture of my pantry fridge and freezer before I leave as a reminder of what I have. I also make a "shit I don't need" list of items I purchase too frequent... Black beans and Tuna are the usual culprits. Good luck on your journey of being more organized, healthy and less wasteful. 💛
I also get so MAD at myself when we have to throw out food - I will calculate the cost of the items and tell myself I am throwing out X dollars right now, like it's actual cash in the trash. Hubby and I try to keep a list of items we have bought, not eaten, thrown out, so when were in the store and either of us goes to pick up that item the other one will remind us - we've bought that before and not eaten it....should we buy it again? One thing that helps us is instead of a grocery list we make a meal plan (we plan for 3 dinners and always seem to have enough to get thru 5 dinners/the week), that way we can incorporate what we already have being mindful of what we need to use up first and last what we need to get to complete the meal to make it happen. We also try to do a bit of advance cooking on our day/s off to make a tired after work day meal easier to accomplish. Sometimes it works and sometimes we order pizza =)
The bin idea is a really great one! Would be awesome to see a pantry/rest of the kitchen organization vid too. Trying to organize everything that doesn't need to be refrigerated/frozen can always be a beast!
I was feeling really down today and not motivated to do anything. This video changed my night ! I got so much done while watching this. It really needed this today
Kombucha doesn’t really go bad. I’m def going to start buying the concentrated juice. That’s a great tip. I was feeling bad about all the plastic containers and now I don’t have to.
Mother duck, I just shared this video in a weight loss group I'm a part of on Facebook. I love this video so much, and I hope that others can love it just as much too.
I like having a list of what I have in my fridge and freezer on the outside along with expiration dates. That way instead of looking at random stuff and getting in the head game that there isn’t anything to eat, I can put together a game plan before I even open the doors. This has helped me be more creative, pull together concise meals, see everything I have at a glance and also tell what needs to be eaten first.
I just moved into my own little space two weeks ago and my fridge is already such a mess. While watching this I started decluttering mine as well and I decided to take painters tape and write an expiration date on my home made foods and open cans so I can be consious of what i should be eating first. Now I won't have to worry about accidentally grabbing old food and sitting down on break at work to find out I have to buy dinner again LOL
The grocery store I go to has different items in the produce section labeled as naturally imperfect. They are sold at a discount to encourage people to buy them.
This was exactly what I needed. I grew up in a crowded house but I live alone now and it has taken a while to adjust to the fact that I don't need to have a kitchen bursting with food. I put a stick on dry erase board on my fridge so now when I need something or use it up, I write it down before I can forget.
LOVE these types of videos! Thank you, Amanda! I watched this to get inspo to do my own fridge. You’re exactly right - it’s one of those things that hangs over your head but you can’t bring yourself to clean out because food waste makes you feel bad. 😖 I would love it if you’d do an update video down the line - how all these organizations (bathroom, fridge, etc) have held up, what worked & what you changed, etc. 😘😘😘
Commenting as I’m watching (sorry)! I always use mayo jars that are at their end to make dressing (a bit of almond milk, dill, garlic and onion powder, and salt makes a great ranch!). It helps get all of the Mayo off the edges and extends it, so when I replace it I have mayo and dressing, instead of a new jar and a at its end kind of jar.
I loooove cleaning/organizing videos but ESPECIALLY when they have an eco friendly/conscious aspect to them. It’s so nice seeing more RUclipsrs talking about trying to be less wasteful.
Love the qcknd graphic with your cats at the very beginning! And omg happy for your blender purchase lol and my dog gets hungry literally at 10 pm when I’m going to bed so I relate to your pet being hungry at inconvenient times lol loved this video ❤️
American living in Denmark... I totally understand having an American AF fridge. I do have an ice cube tray, though. It is so handy, Q, you ought to get one. Thanks for making this video!
Frozen leftover veggies are great for dumping into a soup! Also a good time to throw in extra broth, canned veggies, and if you blend tofu it adds a thickness that’s good!
Yo! Good on you for being conscious of what food you are consuming / eating / potentially wasting, but remember that most of the food waste / environmental impact is caused by large corporations that create propaganda purposefully so the individual feels responsible for the fate of the planet. It's never bad to be more conscious, but never stray from the idea that the majority of food waste is rooted in classism and destruction of food solely because giving it away wouldn't turn a profit.
Honestly love the effort to minimize food waste! But also given that, like you said, the food industry itself causes most of American food waste, don’t feel too too bad about your personal contribution lol. It’s a drop in the bucket
Yes I’m here for this!!!! I will be cleaning mine out this week already does it to my weeks to do list!!! Yours looks great! I definitely want to waste less also!!
Dude they look so good now!!! Ugh I wanna do this because my roommates have so many condiments. Also pro tip: use twisty ties from bread/bagels/etc to keep freezer/fridge bags tied/twisted together.
Looks great! I will say as a person that doesn’t drink dairy products either, be careful of too much soy milk as it is extremely estrogenic. I am in menopause and use it for hot flash relief, so that should tell you how many phytoestrogens are in there. I love almond milk, but to each their own. Just tried oat milk for the first time and like that too. Enjoyed the content!
I was throwing away literally half the food I bought, and couldnt meal prep cause my freezer was the size of a shoebox. Then I got a used stand alone 3 shelf freezer for 3 BUCKS and now living my best life, even frozen some leftover soy milk! 10/10 would recommend
pro Tip from my mum: wash out and reuse old plastic Containers and ziplock bags to freeze stuff in. Maybe write on them what's really in it. you'll have less waste. My mum has some that have the lables overwritten like 3 times. Also I love cutting up fresh mushrooms and freezing them so they won't go bad and they're easy to portion for cooking.
I find it helpful to make a grocery list before going to the store! I almost never get things I don’t end up eating if I do that! I allow myself 2/3 things not on my list (snacks or “oh that looks interesting” kind of items). I also look at the items in my fridge and pantry before shopping so I can plan meals ahead of time with what I already have (like say I have carrots that need to be used before they go bad, and some noodles, I’ll plan soup for the next day so I can use them instead of tossing them). I also try to make meals with similar items so I can use the whole thing (like I get a big can of crushed tomatoes and use it to make chili one day and use it in tacos another day- in that same breath I’ll get beans and use it in the chili and the tacos). Hope these tips are helpful!
If you don't like almond milk, I would recommend the silk "protein " milk! It has pea and cashew milk with almond milk, so it's thicker. I don't like regular almond milk because it's so watery, but the protein milk is creamier and tastes better imo!
One tip is i always keep a white board on the fridge and write what im out of as soon as I'm out of it or close to. That way i can text myself or leave a note in my phone that says like get eggs or low on milk
I’m obsessed with clearing out my fridge. Mostly because my boyfriend brings home take out containers all the time from work and if I don’t go through them the fridge will smell like death since he never throws anything out. Also I like the bins for certain items idea.
I organize the fridge a lot, make sure people dont mess up your organization because that's what happens to me constantly but I am doing a similar thing trying to be aware of what I have in my food supply
These are great tips because our family throws away a lot of food because we don't really eat leftovers so basically whatever we don't eat goes in the garbage that night plus we overcook and that doesn't help. My girlfriend sticks to dates religiously and will throw stuff out if it's going to "expire" within 4 days. We just finished having a 4th of July party with friends and family and the waste was outreagous. We filled a couple garbage bags with nothing but thrown out food and I'm disgusted by it
I live in DE and grow my own vegetables in the spring summer and fall...BUT if you don’t think you like vegetable ROAST THEM!!! They are phenomenal roasted!! From cabbage to Brussels to broccoli it makes them SO yummy!! My kids never had an issue with veggies I think I Because of it My oldest (20) has been vegetarian since he was 10 even. Try it for reals!
My family throws stuff out in the yard because if veggies go bad there are tons of rabbits around, if we got some protein we don’t like there’s tons of stray cats and dogs so we just mix it up and they love it
You should really do the «look, smell, taste» test to see if stuff, especially dairy like milk and yoghurt, actually has gone bad. The use buy date is a guideline, and not scary if it seems fine (except for with cooked rice!). Then you wouldn’t have to throw out so much food. And frozen food is usually fine. I definitely need to sort my freezer like this now!
I want to show this to my mom so she will stop being weird and hiding food until it expires, specially food I bought..... but I know she'd kick me out for that lmao Also concentrated juice rocks
She could literally make a video about anything and I'd watch it
Krista Gibson same lol
Please update in a month or so about whether you stick to your organisation plan, I always have good intentions then flake out after a while 😳
very controversial soy vs almond opinion you got there my guy
Rice milk FTW.
I realized while editing I was on thin ice with that statement🥵
I live for soy milk soooooo
@@jessfauscette222 you're so right! How could I forget her!!!
@@jessfauscette222 oat milk is so stinking in tea though, but I'm get to find a really good milk for tea
Wow literally never thought of putting baskets in my fridge game changer

“jon is a sober sister” yessssss 🙌🏻
Omg my local Kroger is selling those ugly fruit in a mesh bag for like 98 cents. Catch me buying the ugly dented fruit
My fridge is literally just half a jar of vegan mayo and a picture of sour blue raspberry Kool-Aid. It's so sad 🤣
I always take a picture of my pantry fridge and freezer before I leave as a reminder of what I have. I also make a "shit I don't need" list of items I purchase too frequent... Black beans and Tuna are the usual culprits.

The zoom in when you put the pickle in a bag back in had me dying laughing!!

the sharpie marker is such a good idea

"You're not very good at it, please stop" my life 😂
"Hoisin" rhymes with "poison," and it's delicious. It's an Asian sauce made from plum. Tastes bangin' in a stir fry, ramen, pho, etc. 🖤
That top fridge door shelf being organized shortest to tallest soothes my heart this was great
Kombucha doesn’t really go bad. I’m def going to start buying the concentrated juice. That’s a great tip. I was feeling bad about all the plastic containers and now I don’t have to.

the phrase “dead up pickle in a bag” got me good

I was cracking up this entire VIDEO!! I loved this so much!! give me more unfiltered qcknd
Freeze your leftover tomato sauce in a tupper ware or empty butter container

I can't say this inspired me, but it did remind me of these vegetarian sausages I've had in my freezer for like, four years 🤣
The intro is so cuteee!!! ❤️❤️ Love you Quack!

I need to reorganize my fridge and freezer as well, I love this!
I just did this a few weeks ago (woth mini clesn ups every time i do a big grocery trip) and honestly my quaility of life has skyrocketed
Really inspired me to clean out my fridge. What great organization tips. Thanks,

I weirdly did a half ass job cleaning out my fridge today and am now realizing I can do better haha this was super satisfying to watch though
Rewatched this to get ideas on how to clean out and organize my fridge. Thanks

I was literally picking a playlist to listen to while clearing out my fridge when I saw this notification!
I'd never know a fridge could be so beautiful on the inside. Maybe I'll do it with mine.

That new intro is ADORABLE.
Putting containers in the freezer??? Qcknd you just changed my whole entire life I'm a fool
Well.....I need to do this
pro Tip from my mum:

I did this a few weeks ago, best feeling!! I feel like we have such similar humour, you crack me up. 😂🤘🏼
Do liquid aminos go in the fridge? I have mine outside 😖
This is such a satisfying video!

This is on my to do list too so I'm super into this video!
Cashew milk FTW. I hate almond, but cashew is the shiiiizzznit. Also I'm a frozen fruit smoothie bishhh too. 👌

I’ll go through chocolate almond milk phases where I drink it every day for months and then totally forget about it for a year ahah
I’ve had those dollar store veggie burgers they’re not bad!! , they fall apart a little but they taste decent !
I don't even have a freezer but now I want to organize my freezer!
Your choice of background music is perfect
This is the most relatable ass content I’ve ever seen
I felt this in my soul
If you have an acme or a shoprite near you they both sell the gardein crumbles!
That mayo is my fav too!!
that intro was amazing I love it (: I am also the same way when I go grocery shopping... always hungry and buy all the things.
Leaving the freezer door open for so long is giving me anxiety! How is it not iced at all though, impressive
This video is so funny because this is literally me! Love you gurl!!
Qcknd I have followed you for years now but your content lately is especially good - keep doing you 💗💗

This video is so relatable oh my god, i love this quack!
I just cleaned out our fridge on Sunday and I really need to start meal prepping. I feel like food keeps going to waste and it’s frustrating.
We need a cooking video now CONGRATS 😂 💞
Smoothies are the best I have one every morning!
