I also include a pic of the scale if it’s a heavy item like your example, so that buyers know the shipping is going to be a bit high. Since I began buying postage through the eBay app, I don’t worry so much about shipping weight. eBay gives a discount that will offset any underweight mistakes I make. I almost always lost money when I started selling and paid for shipping at the post office. Now I buy shipping online through the app and show the postal employee my QR code, they print the label, package is entered as shipped. Easy peasy!
If using a box, I pack my item(s) to ship (without sealing the box) before listing. This way I get an accurate weight and I am usually right on the money at the post office. Also, by having the item(s) already packed, when it sells, I can just add the order print-out, seal the box, add the address, and its ready to go. I am a small seller though, so it might not be practical for someone with a large inventory to have each item already packed because of storage issues. You could still weigh an appropriate size box with the item(s) and some packing materials (however much you think you may need) to get an accurate shipping weight, then just store the item(s) with your inventory as you normally would. I used to occasionally get the shipping wrong and have to pay the overage. That is painful.
I was also going to suggest this for new sellers. Just have it ready to go. Once your inventory increases, and storage space decreases, you will have such a handle on how to estimate shipping costs it will become second nature!
I learned from one of my first sales back in 2019 to always have the right size box before I list it! So I am fortunate to have a basement with enough storage to have my items boxed and read to go when it sells! Reselling shouldn’t be stressful to need to go crazy to find the right box!
Great idea if space permits
This pretty much what I do, with postage you win some and lose some but usually evens out. TY
Very helpful! 😊 Thanks!

Reminds me of my mother saying, "Don't do as I do, just do as I say".
Thank you! I was one of the ones who asked. This helps!
This helps me tremendiosly ❤😊❤😊
So, it doesn't matter where in the U.S. the item is going to ship, it would be the same price?
If you use a flat rate box
Nothing like Frankenboxing 😅
