yesssss I agree! I just saw an insta reel about the internet in the 2000's & 2010's and I miss it too! social media was so different back then, not toxic and crazy like now, so simple! I feel you about things sticking in your head, I'm 31 yet if I'm out in public and hear a bunch of girls or women laughing together I automatically panic and think they must be laughing at me because that's what I experienced so much at high school from the shitty popular girls and its stuck with me. Like you said, in those moments its like you go back to feeling 14 again, like youre still that same scared intimidated humiliated teenage girl and its shit. I have to shake myself and remind myself I'm an adult now and I'm different and likely strangers arent really paying attention to me at all but ugghhhh. Totally agree with everything you said! ♥
Yes yes YESSS to what you said about social media! It was so different in the late noughties/early twenty-tens. I don't know, it just felt more down-to-earth and authentic. There were no influencers, no one was making millions of pounds by becoming instagram/youtube famous. It was just normal, every day people expressing themselves and documenting their real lives. It was nice. I miss it. 💔
Sarah!! First off, I've been following your vlogs since I was like 14 in 2008 (you and Beckie were huge YT inspirations of mine!) and I was literally JUST doing a nostalgic Five Awesome Girls deep dive, thinking the same thing. I miss the simplicity of old RUclips/content creation so much. Second, we seem to be in similar situations! I am a wedding videographer in the states now and have been freelancing since I graduated from college. I am so thankful for that time because I learned so many of my skills from early RUclips. But I totally commiserate with you when it comes to how complicated the internet has become and how adulthood can be challenging when you want to make a living doing what you love. Hope you know you've got lots of people in your corner. 💙

I mean... We're all hypocrites as I'm complaining about social media whilst ON social media 🤣 but I just wish it could go back to simpler innocent social media times! And yes, were very much pre conditioned even in our response 🥺
I don't think anyone thinks you're being ungrateful. Self employment is a slog! A massive slog and not for the faint hearted. Be proud of yourself for making the leap that many people daren't. I went back to a normal job back from self employment and it's been so nice not having to worry about where my next client is gonna come from.
I hate watching the typical influencer lifestyle or luxury items. I love watching every day people! but yayy! you're joining the childfree community hehe welcome! I'm 37, and have no desire whatsoever for crotch goblins. >_< but also fuck capitalism. I just want to live and experience life to its fullest, too. Like moving to Denmark! or South Korea!
