I noticed that a lotta hip hop that uses vocoders and talk boxes use the minor penta tonic when takin into it. very common scale. i use it a lot in blues.

@adamgh0 With 22 years of using the voice box and mastering it... the only advice I give out is to just do the thang and be the sound... duplicate everything your human voice can do. Doing that, isn't hard... watch Roger and really study what it is he's actually doing. If you wanna learn the voice box and use it in your music, he is the perfect guide to follow.
The tongue articulation is just for the hard sounds that your breathing can't reproduce. A Talkbox will only produce vowel sounds which mostly come from the throat. The consonants (hard sounds) come from the teeth and back of the mouth ("K" sounds), not the throat, so you don't have to breathe extra hard to make them. The only exception to this is the "H" sound, as in "happy," which is made by breathing out. Check out Mayhem's video on how to talk with a talkbox. He explains it better.
this is a really good tutorial bro but a little tip for future things, the talk box can pick up your words because your words are produced primarily through your larynx (vocal chords) which are in your throat :) therefore mouthing it out only helps the user not the synth lol good video
The talkbox has a speaker that carries the sound through the tube. With the tube the sound comes out of your mouth. It doesn't come out through a speaker. In order to record talkbox recordings you always need a mic.

@MrHuntmista I recommend just getting a RockTron Banshee with the Standard Yamaha 500. RockTron is for beginning Talkboxers, like yourself. I hope this helped u :)
first of all, you can make a talk box by looking up "ghetto talk box" or "not so ghetto talk box", and the talk box hooks up to the speaker port on the keyboard. I hope that helped...good luck.

Its NOT the tongue action that drives the sound out... look at it this way... its requires your throat, mouth and lips to articulate your words because what you are doing is mimicing the human voice and what it can do rathers thats sings or talking or even humming... you have to be that sound. Make it your voice and NOT play the sound out.

Hi all! I'm having some problems for making my talkbox recordings sounding nice and I would like ti ask for some help... I wish someone could teach me about what i'm missing.... Ok here is the case: (First on first my apologies for my English... It sounds really a little bit crapy... :-/ sorry...) I dont know if i'm doing it wrong in the recording process, or if I have to do something specific to the talkbox track in the mix to have that "tipycal" talkbox sound (I can't find anything about "how to mix talkbox") ...Wathever i do it sounds like a toy thing... Here is my equipment: -Dunlop Heil Talkbox HT1 (with a 22watts amp) -Vst synths (massive, nexus2, sylenth and some freeware synth1, plus Cubase5 native plugins). With normal midi velocity parameters. Two or three oscilators in different octaves (patches seem to be right, they sound "phat" initially) -Behringer B-2pro (large diafragm) microphone. With SE Reflection Filter (and a homemade 1m. x 1.5m. vocal booth with acoustic pannels and blankets). Art tube compressor to power the microphone and soft compression -I play talkbox with enought volume to hear it nice and loud (like a lead vocal) but having caution not to overload it's volume and hearing too much room's ambience. (Not easy to explain this, sorry). My "vocal technique" is still poor so right now I just try some "uuoohs" and "ooaahs" and small phrases. The case is I actually don't know why my recordings sound like "thin" and "poor". A) Am I making recording mistakes?: Low or high volume?, not enougth or too much room ambience? Wrong mic (better with a dynamic mic? ... B) Is there something in the mixing process I have to do?: Doubling tracks?, autotune it?, little bit or lots of reverb?, specific modulation fx lile chorus or phasers?, concrete EQ or low/high filtering tips?, saturaton fx?, noise gate, compressor or limiter needed? ... The easiest way to talk with the talkbox is to whisper while using the talkbox.
