For those who ask themselves, why the hell Subaru didn't ask about Rem in this scene: He does ask about her in the Light Novel, indirectly, questioning her if she knows about the Archbishops and they respective authorities(especially gluttony), which she replies that she doesn't know. She says that she doesn't know about nothing that is happening in the world right now(past 400 years). Then, Subaru concludes that she can't help him with Rem's case, sadly. They cut out this dialogue in the anime, for whatever purpouses... I hope they add this dialogue later in the series...

Crazy to look back and see how Echidna was trying to manipulate Subaru. First, she tries to hook him on her great knowledge. That way, he will want to take her contract offer, later, to rely on her. Second, she gets flustered when it doesn't work, so she sets him up to enter the trial. In the trial, she has freedom to set up more meetings via the stress Subaru will endure in the trials. That's why Subaru needs to want to enter the dream more than the prior entry, so each time he enters, Echidna is the one "saving" him from worse and worse struggles. By the third party, Subaru is only saved by the intervention of the other witches of sin. Crazy seeing how thorough she was in setting him up in a 2 minute discussion. Plus, when it all failed, she completely abandons the whole plan to acquire Return By Death, and takes back the trial power, as she has no more use for him taking the trials.
You seem to have quite the mind, if you've read the webnovel, go and read greed if! It's an alternate story where subarp accepted the deal with the witch of greed, by the author of the story
Honestly I agree with Subaru for leaving. Now was not the time to be asking questions knowing Emilia AND Otto could be in danger. Like he said, he'll take a rain check for when things are more favorable. Plus even though she's a cute waifu we don't know if she's trustworthy...but that won't stop her from being best girl!
Echidna is indeed evil. In IF stories, we see in general she asks too high of a price from Subaru, rather than the more reasonable "don't tell anyone what happened at this tea party" she resigned herself to when he he was leaving.

@Yimmy López Echidna personality wise summed up I'd say is more so chaotic neutral. Definitely the lack of empathy she has for others when it's something that will lead her to an answer she seeks is largely what attributes to that specifically. Beyond that though she's generally well-intentioned and at times wants to help others out, provided in most cases that help is a secondary effect of one of her experiments that she does to find an answer.
I honestly didn't expect Echidna to be such a tsundere. I love it! - Also, really love it when Subaru ends up playing the straight man in a comedic moment and still some how manages to throw a curve ball to the other characters.
Echidna licking her hands isn’t fan service. That’s actualy her activating the authority of glutony (Echidna can use all authoritys) to erase Subaru’s memory of the tea party. Edit: By the time I wrote this I had just smoked two joints so I ended up confusing some things. Echdina is not using glutonys authority in this scene, she is just making a vow which makes Subaru forgets about the tea party. Still this is an important moment in the story and not just fan service...

Yoyo That was an awkward roundabout way of him admitting that he has feelings for Rem that go beyond friendship. Otherwise, there would be no need to make a big deal about it. In his post-hunt talk with Crusch, part of his banter was that he would have fallen for her if not for the people taking “number 1 and number 2” places in his heart. Those two people are Emilia and Rem. That banter was essentially permanently placing a platonic friendzone between Crusch and Subaru. They have great chemistry, but set their boundaries. Remember, Rem “saved” Subaru in Arc 3 the same way Emilia did in Arcs 1&2. It’s indicated by the moments of affection that include intimate contact during his moment of depressive weakness. It’s those moments that give him the courage to face the end of the loop. However, you’d have to see all of S2 to know more. I won’t spoil. Just pointing out the lines and subtext found in S1.

To be fair the anime made it weird by drawing special attention to it but it would have made less sense if it was overlooked because licking her hands is an important step for the ability she was using.

For those who ask themselves, why the hell Subaru didn't ask about Rem in this scene: He does ask about her in the Light Novel, indirectly, questioning her if she knows about the Archbishops and they respective authorities(especially gluttony), which she replies that she doesn't know. She says that she doesn't know about nothing that is happening in the world right now(past 400 years). Then, Subaru concludes that she can't help him with Rem's case, sadly. They cut out this dialogue in the anime, for whatever purpouses...
I hope they add this dialogue later in the series...

Crazy to look back and see how Echidna was trying to manipulate Subaru.
First, she tries to hook him on her great knowledge. That way, he will want to take her contract offer, later, to rely on her.
Second, she gets flustered when it doesn't work, so she sets him up to enter the trial. In the trial, she has freedom to set up more meetings via the stress Subaru will endure in the trials. That's why Subaru needs to want to enter the dream more than the prior entry, so each time he enters, Echidna is the one "saving" him from worse and worse struggles. By the third party, Subaru is only saved by the intervention of the other witches of sin.
Crazy seeing how thorough she was in setting him up in a 2 minute discussion.
Plus, when it all failed, she completely abandons the whole plan to acquire Return By Death, and takes back the trial power, as she has no more use for him taking the trials.
You seem to have quite the mind, if you've read the webnovel, go and read greed if! It's an alternate story where subarp accepted the deal with the witch of greed, by the author of the story
Honestly I agree with Subaru for leaving. Now was not the time to be asking questions knowing Emilia AND Otto could be in danger. Like he said, he'll take a rain check for when things are more favorable. Plus even though she's a cute waifu we don't know if she's trustworthy...but that won't stop her from being best girl!

Echidna is indeed evil. In IF stories, we see in general she asks too high of a price from Subaru, rather than the more reasonable "don't tell anyone what happened at this tea party" she resigned herself to when he he was leaving.

Definitely the lack of empathy she has for others when it's something that will lead her to an answer she seeks is largely what attributes to that specifically. Beyond that though she's generally well-intentioned and at times wants to help others out, provided in most cases that help is a secondary effect of one of her experiments that she does to find an answer.

Edit: By the time I wrote this I had just smoked two joints so I ended up confusing some things. Echdina is not using glutonys authority in this scene, she is just making a vow which makes Subaru forgets about the tea party. Still this is an important moment in the story and not just fan service...

Yoyo That was an awkward roundabout way of him admitting that he has feelings for Rem that go beyond friendship. Otherwise, there would be no need to make a big deal about it.
In his post-hunt talk with Crusch, part of his banter was that he would have fallen for her if not for the people taking “number 1 and number 2” places in his heart.
Those two people are Emilia and Rem. That banter was essentially permanently placing a platonic friendzone between Crusch and Subaru. They have great chemistry, but set their boundaries.
Remember, Rem “saved” Subaru in Arc 3 the same way Emilia did in Arcs 1&2. It’s indicated by the moments of affection that include intimate contact during his moment of depressive weakness. It’s those moments that give him the courage to face the end of the loop.
However, you’d have to see all of S2 to know more. I won’t spoil. Just pointing out the lines and subtext found in S1.
