- Dynasty star Diahann Carroll in her 1984 TV interview, the very first day on the set of the Aaron Spelling soap opera which she joined in the role of Dominique Deveraux, a lounge singer and businesswoman who turns out to be the half-sister of Blake Carrington (John Forsythe). Carroll says she wanted to be "the first black bitch on television." The character often fought with Joan Collins' iconic Dynasty villain Alexis Colby, including a memorable 1987 catfight.
1984? Lord...she is never dressed out dated. I would wear what she's wearing in this interview today in 2019. Very REGAL!!!
Joetta Polk You are so right
That was the style then-called vogue chic
....NOLAN MILLER....the costume designer....did NOT play....
Diahann is still gorgeous. As for he voice, she has a wonderful tone. THANK YOU FOR POSTING
+andrew white cause you know the saying black dont crack
This lady s pure class
FABULOUS!!!!!
Dressed for the Gods and Goddesses ❤❤❤❤❤
I love the fact that in the past decades, people wore REAL furs. Real furs are elegant, extremely beautiful and so luxurious looking...so different from the fake furs of today !!
AMEN
That scene when she walked into the hotel she KILLED IT. It's one of my favorite moments of the whole show thus far
jwatwater epic
Yessss i live 4 her the catyyiness oooooochhh
It's a wonderful moment, that and her first sparring with Alexis is divine.
🙏
Absolutely, she was stunning!👑
I thought Diahann brought a lot of style and grace to Blake's sister, Dominique. She's a true star!
If you look in Ms Caroll's eyes, she had an agenda to blow the doors wide open, for people of colour. I love her delivery, of everything.
“I wanted to be the first black bitch on television”. The glee on her face as she’s that says everything about her time on the show.
.....she looked like the CAT that caught the CANARY...
There was more elegance and eloquence while talking in TV interviews before... Today, interviews sound like porn talk.
She was so cute in the beginning....It would have been awesome to see her and Eartha Kitt together....RIP
Oh my god yes. I adore them both
what a brilliant, fine, genuine and beautiful actress this lady is, i adore her .. and i especially liked how she battled it out with Alexis
Wanted to play a bitch, an unlikeable character..... And yet, everyone loved her and rooted for her! Because, no matter how good of an actor (and she was great) the real person always shines through. Now that's class.
Diahann Carroll play a bad ass role. She is outstanding on the show.RIP Diahann Caroll
I don’t think Dominique was unlikable. At. All
She is one of my favourites (although with Sable)
Can we talk about how this video opened?! Yeeees Dominique Deveraux!🔥🔥🔥
Embarking on my acting journey, Diahann Carroll is definitely my inspiration. So much beauty, class, and intellect.
She is very beautifully lady in world yessss
The role of Dominique on Dynasty was made for Diahann Carroll. Beautiful and Classy. R.I.H. Queen
She is so exquisite. So much class, love her.
Gosh, she's so beautiful.
Wow she was gorgeous 😍 and talented. She did quite well despite some of the obstacle she had to face because she was black.
RIH Ms beautiful classy Dianne Carroll! She was always a ground breaking actress!
She wasn't really a bitch though.
+Tyrone Morgan She was likable one.
+LifeIsNotorious I actually found her rather boring, and a great waste of a character. she had a great rival rapport with Joan Collins, but really other than that the adding of Diahann Carroll to show amounted to nothing.
+Tyrone Morgan that was the point to be a foil to joan collins character
+Tyrone Morgan wow
+Tyrone Morgan you're entitled to your opinion however many including myself loved character and thought she brought style, beauty, and black fabulousness to the show.
"I wanted to be the first black b**ch on television." What a striking way to start off an interview. But sorry Diahann, but that title was already beat. We've seen those types already in sitcoms like Good Times and The Jeffersons rich and poor before you came along. Of course those people weren't main characters like Dominique would be and were only recurring/guest appearing, so she'd be the first black B**ch MAIN character, but she wasn't the first overall.
Unlikable? Your character was loved among the black community. Alexis was your rival.
She may have meant unlikeable in the film by other characters....Alexis hated her...Audiences loved her.
@@singuntothelordinspiredbyt9140 In the serial, Dominique (Carrol) was Blake's half sister and huge ally. In a way, the writer's can step away from the Crystal/Alexis rivalry and have Dominique be Alexis's foil to try to get to Blake. To the Carrington's she was liked and respected. Alexis hated Dominique. Maybe she was talking about the cast members. If I could stay up and watched the show at the time? I would if I didn't have to go to school at that time.
I dont think any.PRESENT day black actress has this woman's class
I dont think ANY actress today, BLACK OR WHITE, ASIAN OR LATINO has as much grace as Diahann Carroll did.
I remember watching this series in my childhood home and i loved this woman
All women should dress and act like this....
Probably in the top 10 of all time beautiful woman!
DEFINITELY❤
Class, class, class, to infinty!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is so elegant!
she was wrong about Dominique Deveraux tho i loved that character lol
Ms. Carroll is a great actor!!!!!!! Very nice!!!!
Marcus LeeP: Sure she is/was...you are sexy a.f. too...you gotta love a bearded/moustache black man...LOL
She’s so classy,regal and eloquent.
Omg priceless! She killed it💕💕💕👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I loved her character in dynasty she was brilliant as Dominique
She's stunningly beautiful from every angle and her voice is so well modulated , what a classy lady she was.
This show to face the issue of interracial love, homosexuality etc was incredible for prudes like America with all its projective morals and personal mismanagement. Im watching it again from lockdown in Auckland New Zealand and I just LOVE it...I put up facebook posts from Dynasty story lines as though theyre real people and EVERYONE lols at them because theyre insanely fabulous.
Stunningly beautiful
1:38 LOL!!! Classy and hilarious!
She does that a lot when she talks about how long ago she's done a certain job. It's so funny because I always think it's a video glitch until I rewind. Hahaha.
CLASS💋
I thought her going up against Joan Collins made her VERY likable!!
I LOVE HER SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL 💖💖💖
There were two things with Dihann: great voice and timbre in her voice. Great tone and the other is her class. Her style. Many black actresses these days, influenced by hip hop and the gangsta "kulcha" of African American male-dominated music industry speak in a strange and overly aggressive confrontational style now. All the in-your-face hand gestures and so on. Dihann didn't speak that way. Dihann was a queen. She had grace and carriage. The only other black actress who has the same elocution, articulation and wonderful speaking voice is Oprah. Unfortunately, elocution doesn't seem to be taught any more to actors. Many of them - black or white - speak appallingly, they curse, swear and mumble their words. Elocution should be the hallmark of great acting.
...WHITNEY too had a lovely speaking voice in interviews when she felt like turning on the charm....DIANA ROSS of course has a lovely speaking voice....MARTHA WASH...when she wants to turn on the charm....i could think of others....but those popped in my head right off...OH...then of course there is NAOMI CAMPBELL....and....IMAN....
RIP diva
it`s so sad she passed in 2020.
I love this woman so much ✨💕👸🏽

Got what I needed in the first five seconds.
Simply and elegantly beautiful
I've been to a lot of places I've seen a lot of faces
My favorite rich bitch in Dynasty! Such class, glamour and sophistication! Dominique Devereaux forever!
1980s
Dynasty, Dallas and Knots Landings always remind of the time I spent with my mom. It was just "us" time. We talked about everything and anything, some not related to the shows. When I "came out" of the closet of course my mom was the first person. I did it right when Stephen shared on Dynasty. My mom said" I knew, so let's just continue the show and that I'm the only son and not daughter that watched the show out of all her friends. We laughed and to this day it was never an issue including my dad.
NO#
Anyone know where this interview played? Is it on the DVD special features?
She was 40 and looked 28. It's amazing..

# Legendary Tv roles 📺✊
😅😂😂😂that hat!
Brilliant brilliant brilliant
Love her
👑
She is 50 years old here
Dominique started so epically strong, but then they let her down and her character got so weak. I think they should have had her be recurring instead of main. Would have been better for longevity and kept it fresh.
I can't stand Dianne Caroll.
They had to make her weaker over time so as to not upset majority audiences
Yes i hate they allowed her to get slapped by the white main and Richard Lawson comes and saves her .a white man slapping a black queen wtf ....dat was so disrespectful
I don't think her character became weak, it just seem like the writers went in another direction with the Dominique character, after Miss Carroll second year on the show. Remember after they did the spin off "The Colbys" Miss Carroll (people seem to forget), she was featured on that show as well. It seem like the writers wanted to transfer the Dominique character on to "The Colbys" since she had a history with one of the main characters (forgot Ken Howard's character's name). When the spin off failed, the writers (in my opinion) really didn't know what to do with Dominique. Yeah, they brought her back to Dynasty, but they seem to have lost interest of the conflict between Alexis & Dominique. I mean by that time it was just too many characters on that show (Dynasty) storylines all over the place, really got stupid and that's why the show's ratings went down. Miss Carroll made her mark, history and left at the right time.
Lol

🤗🤗🤗
Yeah you are bedaziling but you helped to send a bunch of black sisters a stray
....she did not mean to....all she ever wanted o be was a great representative for black people...and she was very humble and honest about sacrificing true abiding love for her career....history will be kind to her....
The interviewer was not good. She asked questions that a high school journalist would ask.
The interviewer looks like she's in high school. Look at the outfit!
smart cocoa chick
#TURNUPFORJESUS
Yes say it Auntie!😍😍😍😘😘😘
Laurence Adams lol That was my older page but she's still my Auntie!
I wish you young black kids would stop with this “auntie” mess…. It u did ur research, you’d know why it’s OFFENSIVE
What was the story behind Dominique and Blake being siblings? Did they explore that in the show? Who was Dominique's mother and how did she and Blake meet?
It wasn't told in the show.
Of course it was dealt with on the show... Blake's father, Tom Carrington, had had an enduring but one-sided affair with a black woman and she gave birth to his daughter Millie. Millie, knowing no father, reinvented herself as the world-renowned vocalist Dominique Devaraux and eventually wanted to reclaim her birthright along with the fame and wealth she'd amassed. So she came to Denver and began to weasel in with Blake and his family (and his ex-wife Alexis.) On his deathbed, Tom Carrington acknowledged her as his daughter and even made her executrix of his will! The mother was already dead at that time.
Darion and Darrion
she was not even in the final epi
Before Lynn E. Whitfield there was... 😊
