Amtrak # 6 (AMTK 816) with ALC-42s 350 and 351 trailing - January 5, 2024

Eastbound California Zephyr # 6 led by AMTK 816 & AMTK 54 towing ALC-42s AMTK 350 & AMTK 351 fresh from Siemens Mobility in Sacramento on January 5, 2024. Filmed on the UP Martinez Sub on the north end of the American River trestle. 816's K5LA still sounds great!

I have bad news to tell you. 816 was involved in a brutal derailment in Colorado after hitting a milk truck it happened yesterday night. the crew I heard is in the hospital. Hopefully they recover

​@@P42_foamerIt's too damaged. The right side of the rear was torn open and it looks like the front is completely unrecognizable. To be honest, I've never been so upset at the fact of a train being scrapped, but it being one of the classic Genesis locos is what makes it hurt, not to mention the baffling decision of the truck driver. Rest In Peace 816, we hope to hear that 90s style K5LA in heaven once more.

UPDATE: Amtrak P40DC locomotive 816, leading an Amtrak California Zephyr train en route to Chicago IL, recently crashed into a milk truck at a railroad crossing in Weld County CO. The train derailed after crashing, injuring the train driver along with two passengers onboard. Everyone else onboard the train unharmed were provided charter buses as an alternative form of transportation. Unfortunately, P40DC 816 is now beyond repair following the crash as the locomotive's back side suffered damage. R.I.P. Amtrak P40DC 816, one of the many Amtrak locomotives equipped with the perfect sounding K5LA horn.
