- Today we take a look at a recent nerf to Zilliax that has lead to the card becoming even more powerful than before. We also take a look at the times in Hearthstone history where a nerf has become a buff for a card.

Thaddius first change was also kinda a buff
I mean not really. Big warlock was infinitely better than all the "new" decks that were enabled by the rework dropping combo pieces to 0 mana.
That "nerf" didn't even really matter that much for big warlock. And a lot of the combo decks enabled by Thaddeus were better than it.@@amethonys2798
It fixed the original issue of cheating out massive minions while creating a new issue of being a giant mana cheat engine enabling some dumb decks

Order in the court nerf was a buff for wild. Not drawing a card so you can reliably holy wrath for 25 (or 20)

true, but it was a big nerf for standard not drawing the garden's grace immediately (and potentially the turn after as well). Especially with plagues at the end of its run that reshuffled your deck perhaps without getting any benefit.
So not having Stealth made its Taunt more effective, they changed it as nerf to Power Module but they don't think about Perfect Module.
Honestly... I prefer my opponents using Virus Module over Twinning. I find it easier to deal with a 4/6 and 4/1 than 2-3 6/5's (Which also means 4-8 less damage when Dr Boom sends them at my face)
Especially when things like Yogg, Aman'thul, Primus are better at dealing with single targets.
The Unkilliax. Great name.
Thaddius's first nerf backfired. Instead of cards costing (1) they cost (4) less meaning you could play tons of stuff for 0 mana.
Same for Order in the Court. The nerf to not draw a card enabled Shotgun Pally to use Holy Wrath to hit face with their biggest card.
The buff to Elise, Badlands Saviour made the card no longer work with Shadow Word: Forbid in Horseman Priest.
The nerf to Boomboss made it stronger as it's more likely to chain TNT together for burst disruption. Since instead of you having to draw TNT in a clump, your opponent does instead which is amplified by the TNT blowing up their non-TNT cards making it more likely they draw another TNT.
And pally sucks when it draws lava giant because Order in the Court now.
Holy Wrath draws it anyway.
Like can that stupid interaction just somehow be... stopped? Permanently? It's unavoidable otk that's WAY too soon.
Thr boomboss was a nerf? Feels better most of the time imo
@@warrenny1168 Yeah, according to the patch notes it was under "The following cards have been reduced in power"
With the idea being that they were targeting the style of Warrior deck where they drew their entire deck out, then dropped Boomboss... But yeah, for the most part the new one is better as it is often more consistent at hitting TNT's...
I remember seeing Chump play it a couple weeks ago in bomb warrior, and started playing it ever since. Can't believe I didn't think of it beforehand, haha.
Perfect + Virus is often a full health restore, it can't be targeted and when it's reborn it still has all its keywords, meaning it regains divine shield and needs to be hit twice more to kill it. It at minimum takes 4 hits to kill it, which is 16 healing, and if they don't have a way to deal 6+ damage in a single hit you heal for even more. None targeting removal doesn't even fully work because of the reborn, meaning you need to hit it at least twice.
A buff for my favorite version of zilliax for control, but a nerf to the power module version with stealth. I think it was great in both ways
The perfect module has rush, so as long as there are enemy minions on board (which is almost always the case when Zilliax is played), it will lose stealth anyway.
The big deal in losing stealth is that the Reborn part can't be ignored by your opponent now.

@@FardHastalso in Warrior specifically you're more likely to have multiples on board due to cards like Inventor Boom so you can probably not even trade all them anyway.
@@amethonys2798 won’t the ones summoned by inventor boom attack enemies (including the enemy hero) right away?
@cuihenggang yeah but tbqh I am not sure how that would actually affect them being stealthed. "Forced attacks" are really weird because they don't follow the rules of regular attacks such as being able to use Provoke or Mass Hysteria on a board of frozen minions and them all still being able to attack.
Also order in the court and the first zillax (being able to play the +1/+1 and cost (1) less in even decks) nerfs became buffs
Nerfing “Order in the Court” for Standard also created a whole new Paladin deck in Wild.
Both the warrior riffs got buffed but even warrior got nerfed
Perfection Virus Zilliax might as well have “Battlecry: If your opponent is playing Mage, destroy the enemy hero” it really does just shut mage down that hard. If you don’t have a board presence (and hey look at that, Mage has the single worst board presence in the game by a country mile) it’s very nearly impossible to remove Perfection Virus Zilliax.
That said, its presence hasn’t dropped Mage back to the worst class in the game, that’s still Rogue to my knowledge, so it’s clearly not *that* disastrous to the class, but hey. It still sucks being shut down entirely by a neutral card.
I still go the twin module for Reno warrior was because it synergized better with Inventor Boom. However I take virus module for basically every other class.
Been using the Virus Module and Twin module, since the very beginning of Whizbang, on my hero power druid. It's great to play on turn 7 if I want to clear room for my hero power combo on turn 8.
Imo the dual tag hurt lots of those mech decks from the sunken city time. I tried playing mech decks afterwards but it really hurt the discover pools and watered them down too much. So the good mechs you wanted just never came enough.
My favourite combo 4 mana 5/7 do 3 dmg to you but double attack start of turn
I use that instead of the board buff in shopper DH

@vladimirhorejs5477 Supercell are the least shitty game company well behind a couple others in existence... so unless your trying to look just at CR or are suggesting every game company are then no they arent

Boomboss change vs draw heavy decks and Wheellock was more of a buff than a nerf as well
Another great example for a duo tribes buff is the mulchmuncher in druid i think. Since it's now also a beast you can resurrect it with witching hour, that's pretty good if you ask me :)
I think resurrecting big spider that would resurrect all taunts is still the best use of witching hour by a million than any other beast.
Perfect Virus was so cool. Having a scary body and reborn is such a good card
I was playing perfect virus before it was also good before nerfs
Reno was technically a nerf but it made it 1000 times stronger. It only removed it from the super-cheese decks.
Reborn+Elusive is such a disgusting combo because it turns out it is really inconvenient to deal with a 1 health minion when you can't ping it. Maybe THAT'S the Rager that'll work.

Blightfang never really saw play in even DK at 4. If anything, Construct Corridor saw more, and both were found to be abysmal and quickly dropped.
i also use this version in my weapon thief rogue it's just that good by itself

It’s more of a “side grade” because it was still way more OP with Stealth.
Zilliax is broken with 4 copy resummon in Brann Warrior..... Not only the virus module lol....
Hit Legend this month literally just playing whatever deck counters Control or Highlander Warrior, even after the Brann nerf and it became a Tier2 option. I hate it as an archetype and feel it has way too many synergistic tools. Craftman's Hammer is the most annoying card in the game.

Im fine with zilli, hes one of the highlights of this expansion and thinking outside of the box design i would like to see more of
Anyone who considered the Zilliax rouge as frustration had never played against control Reno warrior or rainbow death knight. The Change to the Zilliax module was absolutely nonsence, it was way to easy to remove with AOE cards or other remove cards. Zilliax Rogue was a glass Canone, but not frustrating.
I think removing stealth helped broaden the minds of the players
i think it turned from a annoying strategy for many decks to deal with, to an actual fun card to work against that makes you think more about board
Tbh the only thing I really do not like about that Zilliax is the poison. That Zilliax just invalidates any big minion strategy, which is kinda bad - that are enough good removals already in the game, why do we need another even better one? A lot of decks would already play it just as a big wall that is hard to deal with. Ive been running that Zilliax for a while in my plague/excavate DK. Reborn+Elusive+Divine Shield+Taunt is just a vile combination.

Plague dk not immune to reno when they changed that card to 9 mana was a huge blow as a dk player and we got nothing in return from Blizzard for it.
I mean, that was the point. They made a meta with multiple deck shuffling cards with no way to counteract them, then expected highlander decks to function.
Plagues still do the exact same thing, now you don't just win some match ups completely for free

It's still a Nerf because the old interaction with the stealth was 100% degenerate.
I think the amount of lifesteal some Zilliax modules have is too strong. Especially if buffed by paladin handbuffs or warrior brann shenanigans. Just instant full heal.
The way I see it, if a card is so problematic that it needed to be nerfed, maybe it shouldn't get buffed as well.
Paladin is really benefit from boogie down nerf : summon two to 1 cost minions summon three it's so much stats turn 3

What about when a nerf backfires? For example Sorcerer's Apprentice is now only useful in the decks that the toxic vocal minority complained about. I'd say that nonsensical nerf backfired on the toxic vocal minority.

'Stealth' + 'Elusive' seems pretty redundant,tbh
Stealth means minions can’t target it either, which was important for Zilliax Rogue.

It isn't just about the individua lcards it is other stupid stuff the HS team does that makes those cards far worse.
Like War being able to bring back multiple copies is just dumb and then removing cards from standard like AOE silence or a cheap viable silence for all classes.
Then we have no way to interact with like 90% of the cards in game.
So if we can't interact other than on board which is a paltry part of th egame nowadays with much of the game played from hand and otk's that you never get to interact with either.
the bomboss 'nerf' was a *damn* joke lol
I think it was ultimately necessary. Old Boomboss was being played with Gaslight Gatekeeper to instantly pull all 6 TNT and autowin the game. Boomboss is still a devastating win condition now, but he’s no longer consistently ending games turn 8

Personally, I don't mind Unkilliax nearly as much as the current popularity of Reno. I'm so glad that I reached legend like 2 weeks ago already.

I disagree. The stealth change was due to the double attack module as you couldn't interact with it. That is a clear nerf. So I would just call it a new build, not a buff.
It functions as a buff for the Virus + Perfection build because it doesn’t gain Stealth after the Reborn is set off. The build wants the taunt active to force trades.

This was still a nerf. It’s far easier to interact with elusive than stealth.

I love and hate zilliax is meta again. I think blizzard has a rule their must be 1 legendary neutral thats needed in all decks. Original zilliax comes to mind, astalor. The 2 mana draw a card and spell damage is another legendary at least back in classic days. Also Dr Boom(neutral 7/7)
Maybe a video about these potentially Pay2Win Neutral Legendaries?
That "rule" is not p2w at all. The fact that you can use the same legendary card in multiple different decks and archetypes is the opposite of p2w
