So fun! I’m planning to read Powerless in May as well and can’t wait!! Some other ones on my TBR are The Familiar, House of Flame and Shadow, The Women, and The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels 😊
The only reason Sara & others are hyping Powerless and giving 5 Stars is because Lauren Roberts is a fellow Bookish Content Creator... I can appreciate them wanting their fellow creator to have success, but that book is NOT 5 stars... Now if you have never read or watched Hunger Games... Or read The Red Queen series... and every other dystopian of that time period, then I can see why one would enjoy.... There's a difference between being Inspired by other books and outright copying... Her trials are exactly the same as Hunger Games... EXACTLY... The two types of people are straight from Red Queen... The opening market scene sounded way too much like Cinder... I was just CRINGING thinking how no one is calling her out?! Thankfully, there are some booktubers who aren't invested in hyping her up just because she's a young author from BookTok... Ugh... this book gets me so infuriated because this story has already been done... I have one trusted booktuber say don't go into it for the fantasy and then gave it 5 stars... It's a FANTASY book!! How do you give it 5 stars and the fantasy sucks for you?! That's how I knew it didn't matter how bad this book is, it was getting 5 stars from a certain group of booktubers 😏
Oh wow..I knew she was on booktok, but I didn’t make that connection! I’ve never read the Hunger Games books or Red Queen/Cinder, and it’s been awhile since I watched the movie so it’ll be interesting to see if I can pick up on the similarities. I’ll definitely go into with an open mind though and give my honest opinions!
@@carolinerichards_ I have read both Red Queen and The Hunger Games this year and Powerless last year in October and while there are similarities I wouldn´t say it is a copy. I honestly thought The Hunger Games and Powerless were just similar from the concept and not the execution. Either way I gave Powerless 4.5 Stars, Red Queen and The Hunger Games both 4 Stars. So no matter if you would consider it a copy, I think all books are pretty good and I would personally see it more as a better bind up of both books with an interesting "magic system"
