First off - NICE Jeep build. The suspension & drive train goodies did not go unnoticed. I viewed this to see if LUX was a quality product for rock lights and your video convinced me that it is. Great job on documenting a nice install. One suggestion - those wire-tie anchors with the double sided sticky tape will fail sooner than you think. May I recommend replacing them with MagDaddy Part # 62411 . These have neodymium magnet bases that will never come loose - just like the LED's. They are incredibly powerful.
Thanks for the feedback and recommendation on the tie down. They last a few years, a bit less on the areas that got wet often. I’ll have to look into the MagDaddy items.

Jehu Morales if you are referring to the trails I shot in the video close to TCI off HWY 15, sadly they closed them off. Was a great location to test out different lines and shoot vids too.

Hey David, thanks for the feedback. The only item I would change is instead of running all of the light leads to the terminals, just run all the lights to a single lead (on each side) and then run those 2 leads to the switch. This would make it much easier to run and to service later if needed. All of the lights went to a single switch on the sPOD. No issues.
John, towards the end of your install. Those wiring harnesses, how many switches did you end up using on the Spod? With so many lines to connect to the Source, I'm curious how you did it. Great video and well informative! Thanks Top!
Robbie, thanks for the feedback. As for the wiring, everything was connect up to a single switch on the SPOD. Simply connected all to the terminals, clamped them down and then to the POS and NEG posts on the SPOD.

Not a personal fan of clean jeeps. However, this jeep is mean an beautiful in a neat package. Love the lights. I live in a muddy area so the lights wouldn't really do much other than get covered. I love the look of it though. Also, nice wiring.
Awesome video, John. Two questions: 1. If you were to do it again, would you still put one in each fender well? I'm thinking about doing 8 and eliminating the fender well location. 2. What gauge wire is going to the sPOD from the butt connector?
Shane, the fender well lights are more for appearance than functionality. The real light use are for those in front of the wheels (front and back) so that my spotter can tell me where to go. So, depending on your goal, 8 should work. As for the wire gauge, if I remember correctly it may have been 16 or 18. You are not pushing too much power to the lights, so you do not really need a high gauge. Hope this helps!

Hey Rich, they have worked well and have not had a problem with them at all. After I installed them on my rig, several other members of the club also installed them. The ability to move them around as needed is a huge bonus. I know they have a few different versions now, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.
Benjamin Filbert don’t know. You would need to check the voltage going to the do,e lights and see if that circuit can handle the additional load from the lights. You could also look into connecting them to the aux lights and adjust the settings in the onboard computer.

Jarret Byrd thanks for the feedback! The only issue I would have with the tire is that they may last about 40k miles, with proper rotations. Besides that they are the perfect tire. Great in the rocks, no road noise and have never had issue with traction where others were sliding around. If there is no issue with replacing them every 40k miles, highly recommended! Hope this helps
John Schindhelm i has sold the Jeep a while back, however had not had any issues with the lights. I wired the complete set of lights to a single sPOD switch, real easy connection and worked perfect.

A68170 I do not know the specs of the new SE model, however on my install I only needed to use 1 switch. The LED draw very low power so you should be able to use a si gel switch on the SE as well.
A68170 there are multiple ways you can do the install. 1 way is to simply run all of the lines for the individual lights to the sPod (what I did) and then use a male connector to fit all of the leads (positive and ground each to its own terminal) and connect them up. I just Ed used a larger male connector and crimped the wires in place to the connector and shrink wrapped them. Another way you can do it, this would Dave space running to the engine bay, is to run a pair of leads from each side and just run the 4 leads (2 positive and 2 ground) into the terminals. Each will work.
We had installed the lights on a few rigs in the club and that is actually what we did. I'd I were to rewrite mine, I would most likely run them thru the frame as well.
+lbeatojk the wire itself is triple insulated, however I tend to overdo things and on each install I ran wire loom from end to end. You probably do not need wire loom however I wanted to keep the wires together but not bound together if we used a zip tie or similar. Make sense? It might only in my head 😜
+John Golden (RockTrooper) I get what you are saying. I just wasn't sure how difficult it would be to try and get the split loom around the cables once in the frame. I figure it would just be a little extra protection. Thanks again.
+lbeatojk one you get the loom started you should be able to push the loom down the wire. Don't get a loom that "just fits", get some with enough space to enclose the wires and gives it some room. You'll see what I mean when you use the loom. If you run into any snags, hit me up. Good luck with your install!
You do not have to worry about smashing/breaking those lights. You can put a jack under them and lift the whole Jeep and not break the acrylic housing. One light will take the weight of the Jeep no problem. They even work cut in half
Are the lights strong magnets? How are the magnets holding up? Do they come off with wind, water, etc.? Very interested in getting these any feedback would be appreciated!
Gabino Berrones yes, the magnets are very strong and will not come off by wind/water, etc. you actually need to give it quite a pull to remove them. Out of all of the rock lights I have seen so far, these are the best made and brightest.
Sonia Ajamian there some that come off due to excess mud and sand getting up in there, but for the most part I would say about 90% are still in place from the original install. They are really easy to replace when needed, just cut the zip ties, clean the area and mount and zip back in place. Keep in mind it does not get extreme cold here, I get high heat in the desert areas however we do not get freezing and below temps for extended periods. Cold may have impact on the life of the adhesive. Hope this helps.
Sonia Ajamian unless you live in an arctic climate you should be able to use these mounts successfully. Just check them every few months to make sure they are still good. Like I said before, about 90% are still on from the original install and changing those that came off out is really fast and easy.
Are you haveing any problem out of lux brand lights I have the pink ones on wife’s renegade and they got water in them now they gone water got in where magnet was at
keith hodge I had not had any issues with the lights and they were sealed so I had not seen any water getting inside the housing. Although it does not rain as much out here, I had gone thru water and no problems. You may want to give them a call and see if they would cover the item under warranty.

In fact another way to install the lights is just to run a common line down each side of the rig and then connect the lights to the common. This way you really only have 2 sets of lines running to the switch/control box.
RockTrooper I meant extending the leads themselves. I'm installing them finally today and at the rear of the jeep, they're too short to even get close to the engine bay. I'm following the same paths you did, they're just too short.
Daniel Kmetz yep, simply extend the leads as needed. Just solder them together or if not soldering use connectors and then wrap them in marine shrink wrap to protect the connections (or whatever you have to make a good seal).
Nice install, but I can't help but notice that the rear tracbar seems incorrect. If that's a Metal Cloak rear tracbar, which I'm almost positive it is, it should be flipped with the bent end on the driver's side. It looks like it already hit and bent the exhaust because of it.

i'm thinking about ordering these. i am thinking about these vs the KC cyclones. can you share with me the plastic square things that u used to secure the wire on certain parts of the belly of the jeep. where can i can i get those and are they held on by tape? ur feedback is appreciated

I had not had any issues with them when I had the rig and I know plenty of others that also have them installed and have no issues. They are fairly popular, so you may want to post up in a few forums to get a more broad response.
Hey Michael, I have not had a single problem. All lights work and continue to be held in place with the magnets without an issue. I have no complaints.

I just got 8 of the monster lights in and went to check them on the spod and found when I connected more than one to a terminal they dimmed so I called spod and they informed me that for some reason the Lux lights do that when you connect more than one to a terminal. I sent a email to Lux tech support to ask them if they knew about that because they advertise them as working with the Spod but have not heard back from them yet, but Spod says I need a resister loop they sell before the Lux monster lights will work as advertised, Have you ever heard of that from anyone else?
I was able to run all 8 of my lights to a single switch on my sPOD without any issues, it could be that Lix made some changes to their lights. They would be the best resource to determine what would be needed, if anything additional, to connect up.
@@RockTrooperJeep I called Lux and they say once I hook up all the lights to one circuit the SPOD will recognize them and then they will work as advertised but that sounds fishy to me because why wouldn't they work right now with just 2 hooked up to one circuit lol. I'm being told by SPOD that for some reason the lux lights won't work right until I install the resister they sell lol. I really don't know who to believe, I see yours worked ok but I have the Monster lights so maybe there made differently than your model who know's. One more thing I see you have the original model SPOD and I have the new model SPOD 8-Circuit Source SE w/ Touchscreen maybe that's the difference anyway I can't seem to get a solid answer on my issue from either manufacturer.
Physical Starfighter I cannot say for sure, I would think that either one or both would be able to provide you the correct information for their products. I simply connected all the leads to a single positive and negative terminal and then to each post on the sPOD, that’s all that was needed.
Physical Starfighter did you try just using the Lux switch that was provided in place of the sPOD switch, at least for testing purposes to see if the lights react the same way?

Mike R I sold the rig earlier this year however I did not have any issues with the magnets at any time after install. I'm working on a new rig now and will probably be going with another set from Lux.
Bought these rock lights and after 1 week they stopped working. Checked the fuse in their harness and it was blown. Replaced fuse and the circuit board immediately started smoking. So I said ok I'll just call the place and they'll make it right, right? Wrong, after 3 voicemails I have yet to receive a return call or any action whatsoever to keep my business.
This video is very helpful in planning my rock light routing, but I have one question. Your with the Empire and you're against the rebels? You have 7 X-Wing, 3 Y-Wing and 9 Snow Speeder kill stickers on your Jeep, WTF? Sith Jeep Lord??? ;}
Ah, yes. I used that size for all of the leads that were coming up from that side of the Jeep, so that was for the combination of all 6 lines (one side and then X2 for both positive and negative leads). We had actually done a few more installs after I did mine and found it much easier to run a central lead for each side and then tie in each light to the lead. This way we only had a single lead for the positive/negative coming up to the power. This was much easier to manage as well. Of course, this is owners choice as to how to run all the leads. Hope this helps!
Sure can, there are numerous ways to run the wiring thru and around the vehicle. If you run it thru the frame you can either lay it free in there or work some crazy wire management to get it up off the bottom of the frame tubing and mounted to the inside side of it. You could also run the wiring up into the body if you really wanted and then the wires thru the firewall. Lots O Options!

I got lux on my jeep not really that impressed with them the idea is cool but not as bright as rigid... & yes they are hooked up right I work with 12 volt for a living!
Chris Pohl Chris, my lights are very bright as you can see from the video and pictures. In comparing how these lights are to others, I like the fact that these lights "spread" the light across the ground instead of "spotting" it, which is what I would prefer for a spotter so they can see the terrain evenly without shadows reducing the area.
I put them up against the rigids and just was not as good the lighting is ok not as bright as I thought they would be when I bought mine and I'm running the 8pc white
You are the absolute MOST stereotypical Jeep owner I’ve ever seen/heard. The actual Jeep aside, you paid an additional hundred sum dollars for zip ties and heat shrink.
You do the best installs no steps skipped.

How are the zip tie mounts you installed holding up, I've read reviews on the mounts and would like to know if yours are still holding up.
Sonia Ajamian there some that come off due to excess mud and sand getting up in there, but for the most part I would say about 90% are still in place from the original install. They are really easy to replace when needed, just cut the zip ties, clean the area and mount and zip back in place. Keep in mind it does not get extreme cold here, I get high heat in the desert areas however we do not get freezing and below temps for extended periods. Cold may have impact on the life of the adhesive. Hope this helps.
RockTrooper I just haven't found a better Mount to use to install the LUX monster lights.
Sonia Ajamian unless you live in an arctic climate you should be able to use these mounts successfully. Just check them every few months to make sure they are still good. Like I said before, about 90% are still on from the original install and changing those that came off out is really fast and easy.
Are you haveing any problem out of lux brand lights I have the pink ones on wife’s renegade and they got water in them now they gone water got in where magnet was at
keith hodge I had not had any issues with the lights and they were sealed so I had not seen any water getting inside the housing. Although it does not rain as much out here, I had gone thru water and no problems. You may want to give them a call and see if they would cover the item under warranty.

Daniel Kmetz do you mean extend the wires from the lights to the control box? If so, yes. In fact another way to install the lights is just to run a common line down each side of the rig and then connect the lights to the common. This way you really only have 2 sets of lines running to the switch/control box.
RockTrooper I meant extending the leads themselves. I'm installing them finally today and at the rear of the jeep, they're too short to even get close to the engine bay. I'm following the same paths you did, they're just too short.
Daniel Kmetz yep, simply extend the leads as needed. Just solder them together or if not soldering use connectors and then wrap them in marine shrink wrap to protect the connections (or whatever you have to make a good seal).

Nice install, but I can't help but notice that the rear tracbar seems incorrect. If that's a Metal Cloak rear tracbar, which I'm almost positive it is, it should be flipped with the bent end on the driver's side. It looks like it already hit and bent the exhaust because of it.

Did you connect all 12 lines to one spod switch? i have a 30amp and 15amp spot on the spod.
Sonia Ajamian yes, all 12 are connected directly into a single spot on the SPOD. The 15A is more then enough, draw is very low.

Slotting with angbuzz yes, you can run all 4 lights to a single lead and connect it to the switch. I ran all lights to a single sPOD switch.
I have an sPOD as well. I think Slotting with angbuzz has a great idea. I was thinking that's a heck of a lot of separate wires!
i'm thinking about ordering these. i am thinking about these vs the KC cyclones. can you share with me the plastic square things that u used to secure the wire on certain parts of the belly of the jeep. where can i can i get those and are they held on by tape? ur feedback is appreciated

Objective Reason those are the OEM Rubicon sliders. I did have to trim them down to fit the tires, but works perfect!
How do they hold up to high speed vibrations have any lost their magnetic power over time or fallen off
I had not had any issues with them when I had the rig and I know plenty of others that also have them installed and have no issues. They are fairly popular, so you may want to post up in a few forums to get a more broad response.

Hey Michael, I have not had a single problem. All lights work and continue to be held in place with the magnets without an issue. I have no complaints.

No issues. They don't fall off and lights are still bright. No complaints here.

were able to install these on the spod all on the same terminal and did you need a resister loop on each terminal.
I just got 8 of the monster lights in and went to check them on the spod and found when I connected more than one to a terminal they dimmed so I called spod and they informed me that for some reason the Lux lights do that when you connect more than one to a terminal. I sent a email to Lux tech support to ask them if they knew about that because they advertise them as working with the Spod but have not heard back from them yet, but Spod says I need a resister loop they sell before the Lux monster lights will work as advertised, Have you ever heard of that from anyone else?
I was able to run all 8 of my lights to a single switch on my sPOD without any issues, it could be that Lix made some changes to their lights. They would be the best resource to determine what would be needed, if anything additional, to connect up.
@@RockTrooperJeep I called Lux and they say once I hook up all the lights to one circuit the SPOD will recognize them and then they will work as advertised but that sounds fishy to me because why wouldn't they work right now with just 2 hooked up to one circuit lol. I'm being told by SPOD that for some reason the lux lights won't work right until I install the resister they sell lol. I really don't know who to believe, I see yours worked ok but I have the Monster lights so maybe there made differently than your model who know's. One more thing I see you have the original model SPOD and I have the new model SPOD 8-Circuit Source SE w/ Touchscreen maybe that's the difference anyway I can't seem to get a solid answer on my issue from either manufacturer.
Physical Starfighter I cannot say for sure, I would think that either one or both would be able to provide you the correct information for their products. I simply connected all the leads to a single positive and negative terminal and then to each post on the sPOD, that’s all that was needed.
Physical Starfighter did you try just using the Lux switch that was provided in place of the sPOD switch, at least for testing purposes to see if the lights react the same way?
You didn't show the final product of how you connected the wires to the spod that's the most important part?
Physical Starfighter 16:30 and forward, just connect the positive and negative lines to the positive and negative on the sPOD.

For a newb, this was puzzling...I get R/Trooper ran ALL 12 light wires (2 each too= pos/neg) to the engine bay, and that's why we got 2 massive rolled up wires sets. Now we "marry" ALL positives together + ALL neg together....THEN 1 short final lead to the SPOD consisting of 1pos/1neg wire. Is this about right?? Awesome video and tremendous product. He said he sold the Jeep :(

How is that magnet holding up?
Mike R I sold the rig earlier this year however I did not have any issues with the magnets at any time after install. I'm working on a new rig now and will probably be going with another set from Lux.

Bought these rock lights and after 1 week they stopped working. Checked the fuse in their harness and it was blown. Replaced fuse and the circuit board immediately started smoking. So I said ok I'll just call the place and they'll make it right, right? Wrong, after 3 voicemails I have yet to receive a return call or any action whatsoever to keep my business.

Ah, yes. I used that size for all of the leads that were coming up from that side of the Jeep, so that was for the combination of all 6 lines (one side and then X2 for both positive and negative leads). We had actually done a few more installs after I did mine and found it much easier to run a central lead for each side and then tie in each light to the lead. This way we only had a single lead for the positive/negative coming up to the power. This was much easier to manage as well. Of course, this is owners choice as to how to run all the leads. Hope this helps!
Is it possible to install the wiring through the frame?
Sure can, there are numerous ways to run the wiring thru and around the vehicle. If you run it thru the frame you can either lay it free in there or work some crazy wire management to get it up off the bottom of the frame tubing and mounted to the inside side of it. You could also run the wiring up into the body if you really wanted and then the wires thru the firewall. Lots O Options!

I got lux on my jeep not really that impressed with them the idea is cool but not as bright as rigid... & yes they are hooked up right I work with 12 volt for a living!
Chris Pohl Chris, my lights are very bright as you can see from the video and pictures. In comparing how these lights are to others, I like the fact that these lights "spread" the light across the ground instead of "spotting" it, which is what I would prefer for a spotter so they can see the terrain evenly without shadows reducing the area.
I put them up against the rigids and just was not as good the lighting is ok not as bright as I thought they would be when I bought mine and I'm running the 8pc white
