I don't get that so many people keep telling me that I have to go out mor often, they call me pathetic because I love to read and would rather spend my time with a book instead of alcohol, what makes them think their life is so much better then mine just because keep drinking without a purpose?! the funny thing is I know what I want to do with my life and those who keep calling me pathetic are also telling me all the time that they have no idea what they want to do with their lifes

IKR? I don't know in your case, but when it has happened to me, it's been (In their minds) so that I wouldn't miss out on life and its adventure. It is really hard to convince them that I'm actually enjoying myself quite a lot...

I only started reading in september 2015, at 19. I was always envious of people who could read for fun, I thought if I read I'd hate it so I decided not to, but then one day I picked up a book and never looked back, I love reading now it's my favourite pass time, I'm so glad I discovered it, it's really helped me with my mental health. and here I am 68 books later and still loving it! :)

hi I'm Iva, I have an older brother that is 19 years old now and I'm 15 I started reading last year and now I love it but he never read a book only the one for the school that he hated and so now he hate reading because of that one book. He needs to read because he has really bad grades at school and must improve his writing and vocabulary, Could you tell me some books that you loved so I can raccomend him? and I hope he would discover the world of reading for him and his grades. If it helps I can tell you something about his personaly such as he is a speechless person and really sensible but want to look like someone that doesn't care about anything. He plays basket and likes animals. Sorry for my english I'm not

Iva Skoko hmmm, I'm not sure like hailey said the outsiders is an amazing book, my favourite in fact! and the perks of being a wallflower, it's kind of a funny story, the sliver linings playbook, the hunger games, the divergent series, the 5th wave series, palo alto, I'm not sure because I'm mostly into contemporary / distopian, maybe he could start by reading some autobiographies by his favourite celebrities? :)

When I was 13, I stumbled across this app called wattpad and downloaded it out of curiosity. There I found a book named The Last of Firedrakes and I loved it. Then I was like hungry for another good book so I found this book named Poison which was not quite my liking. After that I started reading Throne of Glass and was completely in love with it. Now I am 14 and can't live without books.

I've also been hospitalized for mental health issues -- a few times, actually -- and reading is what got me through it. Those hospital stays are awful. I kind of have a similar story because the last time I was hospitalized a few years ago I read The Bell Jar (fitting for a hospital stay, I know haha), and it totally sparked my love for reading again and got me back into it. It was the first book I had finished in forever because my mind was too foggy to really enjoy anything until that point. I really appreciate how honest you were in this video because I know it can be tough! I wish I could "love" this video instead of just like it!
    Happy reading!

Untill 5th grade I wasn’t crazy about it but my mom would buy me books all the time and I read them but like after that,in my preteens, I didn’t like it at all and I would make excuses for it all the time...and than in 8th grade I kinda feel in love with it and it really did change my view of life! I am freshman in highschool this year and I am still searching for myself and the books help me a lot❤️

I just recently started reading when i stopped listening to music on the way to and from school (ear problems) so i just picked up a book then. It's only been a few months and i started pretty late (im 17 now) but i love it. My favourite part about reading is learning new things and taking the things you learnt with you through life and also just escaping from life. I'm an introvert and I worry a lot so it's awesome just to escape through a book. Being a very very visual person also helps, i love imagining the story.

As a child I only read, and loved, Harry Potter. So I could say I became a reader after two distinct points in my past, but both ultimately led to the same reason. First, after I immigrated from my native country in South America to the US and second, last summer when I graduated college. At both points I was feeling lost and lonely and books became my savior and escape. After this second time I haven't looked back and I can't stop reading now, it became a vital part of who I am.

When I was little i constantly read, my mom always said the library was my best friend, i hated recess so would purposefully go to detention so i could sit someplace warm and quiet and just read (the library wasn't always open or had another class in it) Through out Highschool i didn't read as much, it was more manga and stuff like Post Secret, i hated assigned reading. Early college i picked up Harry Potter for the first time, and blew through that, but then had a massive book hang over to the point where i'd only read a book every couple months. Yet i still enjoyed the thought of reading, i constantly bought books but would just keep them in a pile until i was ready to read again. It wasn't until recently when a video of yours popped up on my youtube suggestions that I found booktube and got super excited about reading again. At the beginning of this last summer I created a challenge for myself to read 20 books based on the around the world in 52 books challenge, and started subscribing to book boxes, my boyfriend and I set about an hour of time every night to read now. I plan on having a booktube, but like you I work three jobs and go to school full time (and that's with out booktube) So I told myself to catch up on books and just read for this year, and after I graduate create a booktube, so i have time to plan videos out and talk about books in a way I haven't seen others do so before. So thank you Haley. For pulling me back into the excitement of books.

How I became a reader: In preschool, I remember being frustrated that I couldn't read. I would sit down with a book and try to read it, but I couldn't. When I started learning how to read in kindergarten, I never really turned back. I was also read to every night, so that helped me learn a lot of words. Most 6,7,8 year old kids would want to spend their money on candy and toys but I always just wanted books. In grade one, I read a lot of junie b Jones books and ones similar to those. In grade 2, my teacher was obsessed with magic tree house and she had all the books and we would try to read as many as we could throughout the year and we made it to around #40. My teacher also gave us a challenge to read 100 books throughout the year and I definitely succeeded. I love a good challenge because I'm super competitive. Reading has always been something I loved and here I am at nearly 14, reading two-three 300-600 page books a week;) I swear when I have conversations with my other book-y friends we must sound insane to anybody else. I've never really liked writing very much but I find that when I have to, it actually comes so easy to me because I read so much. So yeah to wrap it up I guess I've basically just always been a reader and I'm very obsessed.

Love this video. I had always loved reading as a kid, but when I went through high school and college I only found time to read books I had to read rather than ones I wanted to read (except for Harry Potter, I read those as they came out!) but when I bought my own place with my fiancé I really wanted a bookshelf to put all of the books I did have on, and from there I found more books I wanted to read and ended up filling the case. I rearranged it all recently so it looks better as a display rather than just holding books randomly. Avid reader for life! ❤️📚

I started reading right from a child. I loved being read to and then once I could read I was constantly at the school library or a book store. Right from the beginner reader books to my first ever "chapter book" series The Babysitters Club! I remember memories of going with my grandma to the used book store to find used copies of the BSB! it was so much fun. then I started into more heavier books as I got older like the Hardy boys (i have and have read all of them!) and then started more in YA when I hit closer to high school (hardy boys I was probably about 10 or 11).
now I read mostly YA contemporaries but sometimes go outside of that safe zone to something with a bit of fantasy etc. I love Harry potter, I really enjoyed the Fallen Series by Lauren Kate and honestly even Twilight but I love Sarah Dessen she's my fav author!

I used to dislike reading too! I didn't get any enjoyment out of it and it would take me weeks to get through a book. I remember I didn't even like Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone when I first read it because I was so slow I wasn't absorbing the magic. Then my family moved from a city to a small rural town abruptly and we ran a small bakery which is actually insanely hard and tough and I had to help out instead of running wild and free like a kid should and one day I got introduced to the library and even though it was a tiny library, it felt like a whole new world. I kept thinking I didn't like reading how would I even find anything I would want to read there but I tried and gradually I got better at reading and taking away from the story. Now I read so fast and book can make me laugh and cry and just FEEL. It's become a truly immersive experience for me and I just completely lose myself into the authors' worlds. I also feel super sad that there are 118 books in the TBR folder on my Kindle and not enough hours in a week for them. I've been a solid bookworm from over 10 years now and I feel like it's definitely helped me grow as a person and made me really open to looking at people/problems/things from different angles. I wish more of my friends felt half an enthusiastic about reading as I do!

I remember reading those books like you said back in high school and my first book that I have read when I began to love reading was the TFIOS. I was 17 when I got into it. I couldn't put down when my mom told me to work on my homework or else she would take my book away. And then Anna Todd published her fan fiction books and that got me to love reading even deeper! I remember my very own first book was Stargirl at age 7, and I read it but I wasn't into reading. I have a really large TBR pile sitting in the corner of the room waiting to be read, but sadly college has been taking my time to focus on that and not being able to catch on reading. Going to school and work was tough for me as I couldn't work to provide myself. A lot of the days were stressful and I would keep two or three books plus require English novels in my backpack so I can go to school with them. I wish I could be an English major but I'm already an Environmental science major. Thank you for sharing your story!!

When I was younger I totally loved the idea of reading, but whenever I read a book it wasn't what I thought it would be and that ruined me wanting to pick up another book. I fell in love with books and couldn't stop reading until year 8, when i discovered anime and manga and all that. When i got over those, I then proceeded to submerge myself in kpop and kdramas. That ended in late year 9 and it was after all that I was finally able to pick up a book and read it. Leading to now. Still love BTS though.

For me it was first in grade 8th , then only read for school until grade 11 when we had to read something for school , then my best friend game me a series saying that I will love it (pushing me to read), and that's how it all started for me.

I started reading when I was 11 for kind of the same reasons you did. I found if I wanted to kind of check out my life for a bit I jumped right in to book and i felt like living in another world/life. Reading really helped ground me and honestly reading saved my life

I had a very similar situation with reading when I was younger too. I liked books when I was little but I didn't like reading them but preferred to be read to. When I was in elementary school I went to special classes because I had a hard time with reading and until I went into high school I hated reading and never did it. It wasn't until I saw The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in theaters that I actually enjoyed reading. Lord of the Rings was the first book I ever enjoyed reading and it is still my favorite book to this day. I cannot imagine what kind of person I would have been without finding this book! Even after I read it, I wasn't a huge reader and still preferred not reading because I thought that no other book could compare to it. It wasn't until I was 19 or 20 that I began reading normally. I started by reading Doctor Who novels with the 10th Doctor, Rose, and Martha, then I moved onto reading about the Tudors with biographies/history pieces by Alison Weir. Even then I didn't realize how much reading meant to me. Then I went to college as a Theatre Major, but the longer I majored in theatre the more I came to realize I wasn't passionate about it and then I thought about what classes I loved taking and realized it was English. So I changed my major to English Literature and now I am in my third year.

I remember being in hospital when my mom brought me my first book- Pippi Longstocking.Since than she has always encouraged me to read and bought me books. Now we read together and discuss books all the time

I really started to become a reader about 2 years ago. Whenever I was taken to the library with my class, I got a book and never read it. One day I actually wanted to get something and read it. I stumbled upon the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and immediately fell in love with it. Each book took me about a week and I'd get to the library every Wednesday to get the next one. Then I bought the Heroes of Olympus series and was in love with it too. Well here I am now and still love reading. I feel like it had helped me improve in writing (especially for school) and understand so much about the world. It truly is a life changing thing

I really liked reading when I was younger, I had a subscription to a "magazine" that was called "J'aime lire" (I love reading) and it was like a story and games, I read those all the time. 3-4 years ago, I read the Divergent trilogy and it took me FOREVER to read Insurgent, I was in a GIANT reading slump and I didn't read anything except for school. When I finished the series, I read To All The Boys I've Loved Before (we had to choose a book for my English class) and I loved it. My friend read the first The Land Of Stories and she convinced me to read it after, so I did and really liked it so that's what got me into reading!

Well for me, when I was 13, my friend introduced me to wattpad (a site for free books written by anyone ) and i started reading. But after a while i got bored of it , like all the story is so unrealistics and rarely theres a good book that I actually liked. So i went to booktube and seached for book reccomendations and here i am now.

This is how I used to feel. I wanted to be a journalist and get in the publishing industry and write my own novels all throughout middle school and high school. But I pushed that dream away because my family said with the rise of technology that's not realistic and I won't get anywhere with it. And now I feel depressed because I don't know what to do with my life. I don't feel like I'm good at anything else.

thank you for sharing your story 😊 I loved how you work and study in your field of interests at this young age you are so inspiring good luck to you. for me I read when I was 8 and I tried to read children story and I only had a single book back then which was a gift from my mom then I would from time to time venture through my father's bookshelves but since most of his books where adult books I was not that interested except for small books about different information like history , inventions and so many other things then I read two romantic old fashioned novels but yet I did not consider myself a reader until one day I read orient express by Agatha Christie and that is when I fell in love with reading at the age of 15 then I started my journey I tried to focus on psychology and sociology I was so obsessed with it in my teenage years but once I got better in English especially in my college years I discovered the beautiful world of YA novels and now I am in love with so many beautiful books beside reading in my native language. btw I am so excited for your live Q&A or any Q&A video actually and I have one question .. how do you find your experience as full time student with a job ? how can college students apply and look for jobs and is it good to work and study full time ? I would like to hear your experience with that stuff

Im 13 and i used to read like a MILLION story books when i was 5 to 6. So i derived it from there. But i ACTUALLY started reading when i read smaller books but now gradually i can read faster and read bigger books. My mom used to tell me her own made stories when i used to sleep. Now i am trying to read classics but my journey is yet to begin. I love reading and imersing myself in the books no matter how long they take to finish. I believe if you try. Anyone can read. It just takes a hint of interest to get involve.

I used to love reading as a kid. I would go to the library and read, and I remember falling in love with Harry Potter, I actually read a lot of the Goosebumps books as well, hahaha. And then, people started making fun of me because I wore glasses AND I read books, so I stopped and I started to really hate it. I also stopped using my glasses for years and years even though I could't see that well. I remember lying to my teachers so I didn't have to read books for classes, because I really hated it so so much. The only books I read in those years was Harry Potter over and over. When I was 17 I got sick, and was home for pretty much 7 months straight, and I started watching bookshelf tours on youtube because of one video that popped up in my recs, and that's when I became obsessed. I started buying a lot of books and started reading a lot, and I just haven't stopped reading since. I'm 21 now, and I own like... 300+ books and I don't see myself ever stopping, because I love it so much.
