Thank you for your wonderful work, your detailed explanation, and your calm nerves. I have a question for you: when you finish making the piece, do you put it in the oven to grill until it is solid? Greetings to you from Syria, from Damascus, Jasmine.
just wondering if the note will change tuning once it is fired as the clay will shrink.. so in that case the flute may still be in tune with it self, but the tuning of the root note will change?
Please see my follow up video Ceramic Flute Tuning & Playing Tips. ruclips.net/video/fozxjP-NBAM/видео.html Mine shift about a half step after tuning, but you'll need to do a test flute with your own clay, surface finishes, & firing process to see what the shift for your materials is from leather hard to fired. Then you can account for that in tuning your next one if you want a standard pitch.
Hey, I was wondering will a clay with sand or grog negatively affect the sound for this or other clay instruments? I happen to have a lot of sandy B mix that isn't being used for anything at the moment haha
Hi Sofia, I think it would be fine to use groggie clay. To be safe I would spend a little extra care to make sure the edges of the holes aren't too rough from the grog by using a dowel or some sort of tool to lightly burnish the edges at leather hard if they seem bumpy from the grog. Other than that, you should be totally fine. :)
Is it possible to make one of these with no sound bell just an open spot for the sound to come out of? I am trying to replicate the ring flute from Thundercats.
I really appreciated the lesson on tuning the holes. I feel like that's something that is hardly explained.
I’m happy you’re back. I hope everything is good with you We need more pottery videos, no pressure 😅🤗
"Shake it off, shake it off" 😂 love it
