I always record flock calls. And when I get a bird, I take it around the property and road (before I moved to the country) so that they recognize my trees. Last fall, my male Conure flew out the door when my sister was leaving. He would not come down. At dawn the next morning, I stood and watch him sleep for an hour, and then he flew to every one of the many trees on my property. He challenged a squirrel and then fought with a flock of Blue Jays. They chased him into the forest that surrounds 2 sides of my house. I thought he was a goner. But I put his cage out with water inside and nutriberries crumbled on top. About 8 hours later, he found his way back. I went and got him, checked for injuries…. None, and then brought in his cage and put him into it. He was full of stories for the other birds for a while and they must have scared them because not one will go near a door leading outside.

My kids & I found a baby sparrow frying on the sidewalk last summer. We named him Torpedo & We raised it until it was ready to fly away. Wonderful experience. I told my children they are now literally lifesavers. They really liked that.
I'm not ready for more responsibilities yet so in the meantime I live vicariously through your videos. Love them & what you're doing. I always say you can tell a lot about someone by how they treat animals & children. ❤

Mine got out too. Luckily someone a few blocks away found him on a garage. Having that experience really makes me want to take the flight course.

I have two sun conures. One is a boy named Poppy. I got him when he was two months old and was never clipped. He flies great in the house 😁 I just got a girl sun conure named Lily. She got her wings clipped at two months and at five months. She tries to flap but can’t fly at all. It’s so sad 😞 it’s been almost two months since he wings have been clipped. Oh and the boy was hatched 5/25/21 and the girl was hatched 6/03/21. They are very close in age and are best friends. Does anyone know when the girl bird will be able to fly? I want to do flight course with them once she can fly too.
She will have to go through a molt to drop her clipped feathers and regrow the flight feathers. She should continue flapping to build strength for flight. Watch the channel A Chick Called Albert and his videos on raising orphan baby birds and how he prepares them for flight by lifting them and dropping them a few inches before catching them. They reflexively flap as they fall. It’s a good thing.

Hi, this has nothing to do with your videos, (which I love!) but I don’t know who else to turn to! My almost 4yr old Indian ringneck used to talk his head off, but for the last year or two he hardly says a word, except for the occasional words while he’s relaxed and I’m scratching his head..he used to say sooo many things but now he doesn’t! How do I get him to talk again? Nothing really drastic has happened in his life, but I’m wondering if letting his flight feathers grow in had anything to do with it? Because maybe the first half of his life I’ve had his wings clipped, but since he’s been able to fly it seems like maybe that was what caused him to stop talking..any suggestions? My husband keeps telling me I need to get his wings clipped, because there’s always people in and out of the house and he’s afraid someday he will get out..I’m torn because he’s happy being able to fly, but therefore sometimes doesn’t listen to me, but I’m just wondering how he went from being so talkative to hardly anything at all, thank you!

I don't understand why people keep imping their Birds it does not work on parrots it's a process meant for Raptors to replace maybe one or two flight feathers not to completely replace flight feathers on a clipped parrot just wait till they grow out no brainer there even the one that they imped all the feathers broke out as well I knew that when they first did it that it would break off I'm talking about that macaw I can't remember its name that they had that procedure done at a vet somewhere and then in one of their later video said that they all broke it's dangerous and inhumane to put a parrot under anesthesia for something like that anesthesia is very tough on parrots even when done by a competent vet but a good vet would not do that procedure simply so the bird can fly because you're too impatient to wait for the wing feathers to grow in I guess they need the money lol
I appreciate your concern. Our biggest cause for worry is Pappy not being able to fully fledge. As the 2nd clipping was too much and he would dangerously drop to the floor. That is when my vet and I decided to move forward with trying the imp procedure. We also had it done when he was put under anesthesia for his microchip and bloodwork - he did great and came out fantastically. In the end we did wait and he now is happily flying 2-3 times a week and doing awesome.
I'm glad he came out of the anesthesia good but the only thing is anesthesia is not necessary for microchipping or blood work on a bird in most cases
@@theparrotchannel2625 All of my birds were put under form microchipping - it is painful to them and the kinder way to do the procedure, according to my vet
@@heatherstevenson7967 I don't really see how it's very painful to them it's just a quick needle to them I used to work at a bird store and we used to do it it was just a very quick procedure for them obviously I'm not a vet though I do have over 35 years experience with parrots and other exotic birds I'm just glad everything turned out well for your bird though I definitely agree that clipping a baby bird is not good for their Mental Health all of my birds are flighted clipping does have its place for all some people though free flighted birds are not good for all bird owners some people just don't have the experience necessary to have a free flighted bird in their home as you've seen fly offs are a big possibility it only takes a second with that open door for somebody in your home that doesn't realize the bird is out I do have my birds flighted but I don't freefly it is too dangerous regardless of what anyone says a hawk can get them way too fast especially birds like African Greys or Indian ringnecks that's what I have you can look you can prepare but raptors have millions of years of evolution they have eyesight way better than ours the Raptor that you don't see that can swoop in at a moment's notice and get your bird while it's in the air and there's nothing you can do at that point although I do agree birds do love to free fly and it is good for their Mental health but a raptor attack is also bad for them my birds are allowed to fly within my home and it gives them the exercise they need for their flight muscles they really do enjoy it and it's much safer as well I just notice the vibe of the free-flight out in Moab is more of a status and ego thing I have seen I just want my birds happy and healthy and safe as well but to each his own you can do with your birds as you wish I choose to keep mine safe they are not status symbols or ego trips for me though they are just my pets that I love and I don't want anything bad to happen to them in any way shape or form I do my best to keep them safe at all costs because the sad part is it's not if a raptor attack will happen it's when it happens I do wish you and all the bird tricks people and their customers safe flight every time
Hey birdtricks!! I'm a big fan and have watched hundreds of your videos. You seem like you really care about birds. I'm sure you've answered this before but if you truly want to improve the quality of life of birds around the world then why do you make information which should be free so expensive?? I get for physical copies, but what about the digital downloads?? I understand that you need money to live but between your toy line food line you tube channel and consultations shouldn't you have enough? I'm not trying to say you are frauds but if you truly cared about the well being of birds then you wouldn't try to monopolize information that could improve the quality of life of thousands in not millions of birds. I am a sophomore in highschool and honestly dont have the money to spend on your training course. Does this mean my baby parrot doesnt deserve the same life as one of yours??

Hi Sam, I am not a BirdTricks employee - and I am a student that was featured in this video. However, I can answer some of your questions. Birdtricks offers a lot of freebies on their site - and their videos on youtube got me started on this journey. They work incredibly hard, and are producing a product that they deserve to be compensated for. They also work tirelessly with rescues and help rehome birds that need help. Owning parrots is expensive from the training, diet, toys, cages, and medical care. There is a young lady in our class you will see this month that is 14 and she earned money to be able to do the program by selling her art on Etsy. I would challenge you to try and come up with ideas to be able to take the training that you want. I wish you the best of luck with your parrot!
