Just because I've seen some discussion about it below:
Girona could play in the Champions League next season because City Group only owns 47% of the club, the rule banning clubs from the same ownership group appearing in the same European competition applies to controlling stakes, and city group doesn't have a full controlling stake in Girona. I could be wrong, I am but a man, but that's the way it seems to be interpreted in this case.

I'd argue that the inevitable fate of the Champion's League is to face off multiple teams, all co-owned by City (or whichever corpo will dominate at that point)
      in the finals.
I expect City to pop out a few extra teams like this in the other leagues soon.
PSG & Bayern could face some serious hurt.
      Though at that point...
      What's the point anymore?

@@davidanitoiu7476 i dont think you are looking at it in the right way. I´m not a City fan by any means, but im not so negative about their ownership of teams across the leagues in this kind of fashion. It is important to take into consideration, that they are not creating a club out of thin air or taking a team and completely taking away their history (like RB did with teams like Salzburg, or also City Group did this before they found out that it has its issues), only giving some resources to the original club to give them opportunity to grow. Its not really a spending frenzy with them having a chance to take over the leagues, if they can push Palermo or Troyes into being a healthy Serie A/Ligue 1 contender to replace some bankrupt teams, they can be my guest.

Once you changed the coaches, all the players, and give them access to City's scouting network and negotiators... it's not really the same club anymore, is it?
It won't happen over night, but given a few iterations, this team is nothing more than "Man City B - Italy" "Man City B - France A" "Man City B - France B" etc etc
That club history is little more than some dates & names on a paper.
This is going down deep, dark philosophical places like "Ghost in the Shell"
It also means that after a few iterations of this madness.... the best games can't happen anymore, because you got all the best players tied up under the same umbrella.
Some beancounters & lawyers in penguin suits will decide which team should win, based on which one generates the best returns upon winning.
And ofc the game is fixed, but then it's also not fixed... like... it's complicated, and it's all about lawyers lawyering over whether that's within the rules or not, and then a few fines are paid, which are offset against the profits as: "cost of doing business"
I find this both disgusting and inevitable.

    • @eddibuenter

Yes. I do think what is lacking in this video is good research on the CFG portfolio. You bring up Troyes and their poor results. The only City player they've ever been given to actually play for them is Issa Kabore. They are pretty much a front for City. This being very obvious with Savio. Savio is a CFG player placed at Troyes in order to launder the player. Hands are clean, on paper, before they 'move' his contract to City.
You bring up Palermo. This club has been a mess for years. With CFG they are seeing huge improvements in running the club. The results are on the up. But they are not in the top tier. Sending players to the second tier in Italy is not as good as sending them to Girona in the top league.
Hence I think you've set some premises for your argument about CFG that are not completely valid. These clubs are not the same thing, that A=B is not true for all of them given situation and context. So your false premise of saying A should equal B for all of these CFG clubs (therefore look at how great Girona is) is not valid.

Yeah, the way they get dodgy, favourable deals that they wouldn't get otherwise in order to circumvent the FFP restrictions.
Pretty disappointed at how Zealand brushes over it as "talked Barcelona into" for example, when it's pretty well documented that part of the deal for City to sell Cancelo to Barca was for them to allow Garcia to Girona for a very heavy discount.
Sure the players have put in amazing work to get where they are, just like City have done for a while now, but just like their 115 FFP charges show, it wasn't entirely fair and they're following in the same suit with Girona.
And if you're wondering why did City Football Group start to help Girona so much despite all the other clubs part of the group, it's because Pep Guardiola's brother invested into Girona and became chairman.
Great achievement by the players already, but the club isn't exactly playing by the same rules as everyone else and it definitely sullies what they are doing.

City Group's multi-club network model is a lot less of a cheat code than I think haters think it is. Yes, Man City has unlimited budget and resources, but that only applies to Man City. The rest of the clubs have way more limited resources even relative to the leagues they play in. Yes, you do get the occasional shady in-network transfers of questionable value but it's not worse or more frequent than non-network clubs do anyway. It's not a Juventus situation. The City Group scouting network is a great resource but it's still up to the clubs to use that resource correctly. I can tell you that NYCFC has not been as successful as Girona when it comes to scouting young talent. The teams still need to put in the work of finding talent, developing talent, and playing winning football just like the any other club. There's way more game-breaking corruption and finances in Football than multi-club ownership, at least as City Group has implemented it.

    • @bagaming2259
      @bagaming2259 6 месяцев назад +4

Exactly, this is what I have been trying to explain. Just cause one of the teams in the city group has unlimited funds doesn't mean that every club in the city group has the resources to be able to exploit this. If not Melbourne would be the best team in Australia and New York City FC would be the best team in the MLS.

1:15 no, it's not "regardless" it's precisely because of the net worth of the owner of the club. L.E. wikied their season finishes to see if i have to eat my words but no, before joining city group they never promoted to the 1st league and in 5 years since becoming a city group member they are fighting with barcelona for 2nd place or i guess with real for first.

also looked on transfermarkt at their transfers this season - over 100M euro this season on transfers. In 2016 before being acquired their top transfer deal was 2.5 mln, this year 30 mln. So again no, it's not "regardless". But disclaimer that i don't think this detracts anything from the players and the manager's contributions and success. Just that, you know, another somewhat superficially grown club thanks to oil money.

You're missing the part where la liga actively restricts club's from competing on an even playing field with the big boys, nevermind trying to outspend them. The regular top 3 spend more on wages of a single player than a newly promoted team can spend on their entire squad, so their wealthy owners aren't actually a big factor at all.

I don't like to repeat myself, but it's not always about the wages and buying players that are not in the same area. I said all that months ago about heidenheim because it's the same. The money there, floating around for the stadium, infrastructure, bla bla bla. Their facilities doesn't look like same level as celta or getafe.
It's just funny how everybody says that clubs like heidenheim or girona are the real david's in football when thats nowhere near true. "Nice" to see those breakouts, but take a look behind the curtain.

@@mattikr0718 ok let's take your example, Savio. Had you heard of him before? Has his name been floating around before? Troyes signed him for €6.5m so the answer is a hard no, when Brazilian wonderkids now fetch 40m or higher (see endrick, rogrygo, vinicius for example). If he was being scouted by Europe's elite, like man city, there would have been a bit more attention around this guy. What about all the other big name players who play for teams within this ownership? Why aren't man citys fringe players on loan at Troyes or girona? Even if the end goal was to groom him for man city why didn't they just send him straight there, where they have the best training facilities, and then loan him out from there? They still have to pay fair market value for him which will be 6x what Troyes paid, it's I'm the ffp rules. So its not like they can transfer him for free, so I don't really see what your problem is? Girona are doing well on a shoestring budget, it's refreshing... Like Leicester did... Except they also had billionaire owners... And even with those, they had to be savvy with their transfers and win the league with a back four including Danny Simpson, Wes Morgan and Rob Huth. Gironas is a bunch of loans and freebies so not exactly cream of the crop either lol.
