How hard would it be to dry the bilage out when it does flood because it doesn't take too long for a 2×4 to rot once it's wet

The designer claimed non painted planks are much less likely to rot, painted planks are sure to rot was his claim. Of course salt water will preserve wood, so if you stay out of fresh water is shouldn't be an issue. I plan on having a dry bilge and to keep it that way I'm going to install some forced ventilation in the bilge that can be run when needed to dry things out. We'll see how all that works out some day. Wood boats don't sweat, so that helps.

I would not want oil getting to the plank and shocking into the plank, fire hazard. My 2 cents worth.

If me i would try an make somekind of pan to place under engine even if you cant remove it. Atleast you have something to catch some fluids and keep them out of bilge. You could put those absorbing padsnin pan that can be switched out and will be able to tell if something leaking easier.

hopefully I'll be able to do that. Might try to template something out of cardboard to see what will fit.
