I enjoyed the video. Wish I understood more than just the basics. Thanks for taking the time and effort to teach anyone who's interested on RUclips.

You’re most welcome :). Modern 802.11 based wireless technology is incredibly complicated. Hopefully I can manage to put how it works into plain English in the upcoming weeks :) 73, Jarrad VK3BL

Great Video ! More vids on fixed wireless would be great.

Thank you for sharing a basic understanding of 802.11. Yes the modulation is stuck in the past. Except for the digital modes for voice in VHF/ UHF we have little in HF. A good digital multi carrier HF modulation is needed to improve sound in noisy bands.

We'd personally love to see some form of Digital Voice hit HF; I know there is an open source one, but I haven't personally given it a go, perhaps I should? 73, Jarrad

Nice job Jarrod. Great to hear the jargon as it slowly is absorbed and becomes more familiar.
We're just in the process of moving house and will be served by Fixed Wireless. It will be interesting to see what the experiences will be compared to the current fiber connection. Fingers are crossed. Keep up,the good efforts. Interested in the physical challenges that you encounter at the unique installations..

Thanks for the comments Colin and physical challenges are indeed a huge part of Fixed Wireless. The jargon however, has only just started ;). Later on, I will attempt to cut through it all and peel thru the onion layers of technology that make up modern WiFi; hopefully in a way that makes sense! 73, Jarrad VK3BL

I watched the video as I'm hoping someone will offer Fixed Wireless, what I think we call 'line of site internet' to my ham QTH, which currently has none. At least now I know some of the terms and can speak with a little knowledge and background. Thanks for a great video.
If you're looking for subject matter, I would love to see a video set on how to set up a weather station and be able to see it on the aprs.fi map.

just got a job at a wisp in northern canada. I am a computer not really a radio guy so this helps.

Great Video. Would you know who are the hardware providers for Fixed wireless modems.. Any offerings in 28G?

Great vid. I live on a large plot with solar panels on one side of the land that have wifi monitoring. When the internet company installed fixed wireless they removed the previous owner's fixed wireless antenna and gave it to me. My current fixed wireless antenna goes to my router via ethernet which broadcasts wifi (2.4/5 MHz) through out my house and to my detached garage. The signal won't reach the solar panels. I have a wifi booster in my garage and I can now get 2.4 to one solar array but not the other one which is 5 more meters further away. Can I connect the old fixed wireless antenna via ethernet to the wifi extender and push the wifi signal to the solar arrays (100 meters.away)?

UBNT (AC not the M series) I think is the best. We use UBNT and Telrad in our fixed wireless network. Telrad works off the LTE technology and can go through trees better than Ubiquity.

Don't tv stations use microwave to link the station to the transmitter?

Does att fixed wireless throttle their Internet?

i wonder how the microwave internet would compare to 5G Wireless internet. Personally i would never get Satellite Internet because of the weather related outages (I worked for a stock data company and clients that used satellites for data feed had outages all the time when there was bad weather).

ATT fixed internet is the only option I have at my new house, spectrum is 3500 feet away so hopefully one day. Anyways how is ATT fixed internet for gaming how is the latency?

    • @RateMyRadio
      @RateMyRadio  5 лет назад

It depends on the vendor and how they design their network, but generally speaking unfortunately the latency just isn't the same as a wired connection for gaming. 3500 feet is nothing really as long as you have decent line of site without obstruction. 73, Jarrad :)

seems like a good video, but the accent is SO thick. actually. as i listen i am starting to understand him when he is speaking about non technical.

Indeed, he's speaking native English, and we're speaking a nasally, sharp sounding language here in the US. Which is the true English?
I watch some TV on BritBox and am getting used to hearing this "foreign" language. :)
